It's hilarious to read comments where they criticize the drummer or Sting himself because the song doesn't sound like the original, or the version with Vinnie, or any other of the many drummers Sting has played with. None of them understand absolutely nothing of what Sting does with his own music. Searching, experimenting with different musicians who sound different. That's what it's all about. He didn't stay in the past. He finds new ways. He dares. He is an artist who has never been afraid. Those who criticize him are still stuck in the past. This gentleman is far beyond their reach.

Miles Davis got the same criticism. Everyone wants an artist to stay where they were. They have played the song 50 or 100 times before we hear it upon release. Then they play it 1000s upon 1000 more times, and "fans" complain it's not like the album. Then go home and listen to it on your device; the artist is moving on.

@@NickHolum I understand wanting Sting + Vinnie. I'm thankful Sting didn't want that, because we would have missed the 2005 tour with Josh Freese and the more recent tour with Zach Jones.

The beauty of the original studio recorded version is.... it still exists and can be listened to at a moments notice, as many times as one desires. A live performance is something else entirely... spontaneous, living, breathing entity. Was the same for the Police playing live. Saw a recent interview where Copeland said he's never played the same exact version of any of their songs twice. That he much prefers the intuitive, spontaneously creative nature of playing live over in the studio.

Sting at 73-years-old is still releasing new songs, on tour, performing full concerts and not holding back his vocal performance. Not many singers at any age would perform live with a three piece band and no backing singers. It’s all a wonder to watch, inspiring and very motivating.

Dominic Miller is not a “backup musician”. The ignorance of some of the comments here is amazing. While the Police was a great band for 5 years, Dominic Miller has been a permanent member of Sting’s band for 35 years and has contributed immensely to Sting’s catalogue. Chris Maas is a new drummer but totally amazing. This band has nothing to prove to justify itself as an “alternative to the Police” - Sting is 40 years past that.

Sure his voice isn't the same as 40 years ago, and he does full tours with the entourage of backup players and singers. But at 73 he can still play the hell out of a bass and his band jams! I'm betting his voice is feeling the strain of multiple shows at this point, just my take!

imagine being a musician and having huge hits and playing them exactly the same for nearly 50 years. how boring. sting has always changed things up. different musicians. different arrangements. the police were the police. why would he want a different group of musicians to play his music exactly the same as the police did ?
i saw this configuration a few weeks ago and they sounded incredible. new takes on old tunes. dominic and chris are amazing players. sting played all his hits, he changed some of them up a little bit. songs evolve. musicians evolve. this is more rock and roll than an old band going out and just playing the hits exactly the same for 40 years.
