It always cracks me up when people are shocked when "screamers" can sing. Like the training and control you need to be able to be a metal vocalist is insane. Of course the vast majority of them can sing.

I find the original song and Vessel’s vocals make it seem very desperate and broken, like he’s recalling the past or begging.
Wills cover and vocals are almost more loving and present, while becoming angry towards the end.
It’s like a listening to a love song during and after a relationship!
Totally agree! You could almost argue that it's like they're both in the same trance like state, but ones sunken in it and trying to escape and the other one is just suspended and lost in it
Will's version blew me away and it's how I found out about Sleep Token. I'm not sure I could pick between the two, Vessel's voice has something it it really special while Will has effortless intensity and power.

I absolutely love Will and Lorna Shore. He is the master of vocals. He’s at an elite level. Absolute God tear. But out of the 2 versions, my preference is Sleep Tokens, and here’s why… it’s the breathy vocals. Vessel has left so much breath in the recording that it’s makes it super haunting (to me at least). It gives me chills and it completely “hypnotises” me. Will has a stunning voice, but I am missing the breath in his cover. But that’s not to say I think Will did a bad job cos he absolutely hasn’t. He has covered this song incredibly well. And his cleans are everything!
This song with Vessel's cleans throughout, and then Will's harsh vocals over the final breakdown. Perfection.

Will's one take was what introduced me to Sleep Token; I loved the lyrical pressure that Hypnosis constantly put out, and I adored Will's version, so I HAD to check out the original band. Fell in love with them immediately, and it's awesome to see them getting the attention they deserve.

It might be an editing thing but it looks like there was at least 2 takes of Will's performance. Also a lot of times people doing "one take" performances will actually clean up the take with punch-ins as long as the footage will still match up, especially for stuff that is almost studio quality.
Definitely not a one take lol very audible vocal layers and lots of editing.

I just heard Will's cover of Chokehold and got goosebumps. I never heard of Sleep Token so I had to check them out.... and now I'm hooked. There's something familiar about their sound, feels like home but also mysterious and dark.

This was the first song I heard from Sleep Token and as soon as Vessel started singing I knew they had something special. Safe to say I'm hooked on them now! Alex, your face when Will started singing was priceless 🤣
Sleep Token's version has all these layers Will cant (or didnt want to) reproduce with his cover. the haunting effect gone, half of the atmosphere of the song is gone with it.
BUT Will absolutely nailed this cover. It was really cool to hear him sing with clear vocals for once. It's worth noting that this was kinda a '"shot in one take", therefore closer to a live version of a song rather than a studio version. It can explain the lack of many layers on Will's take.
Idk if you have already checked it out, but he also covered Wonderful Life (BMTH) and his version is amazing and very different from the original one.
This band has been under everyone's radar for waaay too long. As you've said the drummer (known as ii or 2) is an absolute monster, dude has 8 arms. The singer is known as Vessel and is also insanely talented. Production done by George Lever is some of the best around, great guitar tones and the drum mix is incredible.

The thing that makes 2 stand out so much are his fills. He has some of the most tasty creative fills I've ever heard.
@@ninja3687 absolutely, he’s great at groove but the main thing is the fills and you can hear every single accent, cymbal hit, toms and all. It’s put masterfully in the mix.

I love Vessel’s voice, but Will Ramos knocks it out the park! Why the hell is he not singing straight more?!?!? His regular voice is so amazing! I hope he does an album singing with that beautiful straight voice. It really does soothe the soul.
There’s a cover of Chokehold Will did on his patreon and it is AMAZING, he might post it publicly soon I’m not sure.

Will absolutely crushed it with his cover and I hope he does more covers like and I hope Lorna Shore finally uses his clean vocals because they will work extremely well with the slower and melodic bits in their music also I'd recommend checking another sleep token called "drag me under"

Pretty sure Adam has said there won’t be any cleans as long as he’s in the band so I wouldn’t get my hopes up. The closest we’ll get is probably more whisper/talk sections like Pain Remains 1 or the spoken part at the end of Welcome Back
They're both great in their own way - it's down to taste and, for me, Vessel has such a unique voice and control/passion delivered through it that I'll err on that side...

Honestly…I always love Will’s covers more. The screaming he adds takes it over the top. The biggest reason I ❤️ Will’s the most is his personality! I adore watching him in interviews. He has that sweet golden retriever energy and just seems like someone fun to hang out with. We know nothing about Vessel and the other ST guys, except speculation and that takes away a huge chunk of what makes me love a band IMO.

Will is a teddy bear guy with all the demon noises, and evidently the voice of an angel! I love that guy. I think both were amazing. In some ways I like the original more, in others I like Will's cover more. But I'm like totally in love with all of Will's vocals so lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

10:20 Katatonia and Sevendust have done something kinda like that (I'm sure other bands as well, these guys are just top of the head). They've released albums that are acoustic/clean versions of their work. 'Dead End Kings' is the metal album from Katatonia while 'Dethroned and Uncrowned' is the same songs in the acoustic/clean style. For Sevendust it was an anthology style album called 'Time Travelers and Bonfires' with some covers of their previous songs along with some original songs. The first track ('Come Down') is incredible, as is the entire album.

I personally don't care who they are, I will still appreciate their music. I think it's great marketing and I respect that. One thing is for sure -- they're getting their due credit when they cash that check at the bank, and that's the most important part.

I’m going through this sleep token playlist cause I saw you listened to a whole album and I didn’t look at titles just let it play in order and was so hoping you’d do this song, this song is how I was introduced to them by another UA-cam channel drumeo
When you think about it, vocally they are completely different songs. The original is done with vessel doing it almost emotionless and creepy (though beautiful) andwill went a completely different route where you can hear the layers of emotion in his sing. Odk maybe I'm wrong. Either way they are both masterpieces.

just think sleep token felt more like a environment, with good texture and awesome layers and depth evolved from it.
You should check out "Take Aim" from Sleep Token. It's one of my favorites of theirs (the vocals give me chills every time) and I've only been able to find one reaction for it so far lol

He also covered chokehold by them on his Patreon. I'd highly recommend it for everyone, so many good covers on there. Almost every immortal song, blasphemian, psychosadistic design and some more
For me, trying to take my HUGE Sleep Token bias aside, with clean vocals Vessel is head and shoulders above Will. However, bring it to harsh vocals and the tables are completely flipped. Will hands down there. I do think those areas are where both singers focus on anyway, hence the clear strengths of both are so obvious. For those just getting into Sleep Token, try The Offering, Higher, Blood Sport (from the room below), Dark Signs, Atlantic, The Love You Want, Missing Limbs, Nazareth and Jaws are brilliant starting points.

It’s hard for me not to love both equally because I’m obsessed with the song. Will does more than enough to justify the cover, especially when he unleashes all hell at the end. Will’s a goddamn demon, and this is just a perfect song. Sleep Token deserved the exposure from this cover, a lot of people didn’t even know who they were and they are a very talented band. All my respect to both of these artists.
I watched an interview where he talked about his cover. He talked about the Band like a little school kid! Then he says I mean people react huge when I sing. I mean I’m not great but I can do more than scream! Love it!!
