1:13 I've been blocking this whole time as a fire tank...even thought immolation was a shield. Got it all wrong haha
We are trained to rely on block as a fire tank in group instances i.e. fortified blocking neck mod; "If he doesn't have his neck mod, kick him from the raid!". But all the while, realizing that most of us fire tanks need to READ and act accordingly. Thanks for the perspective. Engulf is way faster than Enflame and some other burn starters. I used it for the 1st time in a battle rotation last night. Been a fire tank since release.
I agree. I've been watching for years. And yes 🔥 is my 1st love. So because of your great tutelage, I've switched over to fire tanking again. Your insight proves to be unparalleled for those who just make videos for, lack of the better word, "clout." To truly understand MMOs, you to understand the fundamentals. I don't know if this kind of series existed in the past but looking at this for the first time I must this was one of the most informative and useful videos I've seen on this channel. Felt a great wave of excitement towards my fire tank character as I thought about the next time I tank a raid, Thank you for your effort!
not specifically existed, they were just apart of the larger individual powerset guides but I feel its better to separate them and leave the powerset guides themselves to DPS and have separate support videos like these that go into all the details you wouldn't think you need but some players will. My vision for these videos is that a player that has never been Fire for example ever could switch and watch this video and be a good fire tank.

It's a 3 sec cooldown and does great numbers for healing and dps
2 Breakout trinkets used to drop in Themy divided alert. A blue one that looks like a diamond and a green one. You can probably still get them there as a loot instead of buying them for any marks. That alert has nice weapon styles too. Just as a note.

But why i feel I'm the only one rocking transformation card in end content.
As a FTP to low spender, it's hard to find a sustainable arti that can be beneficial in both rôle.
Since I'm returning player from 2017, i end doing a 50/50 built. To catch time & saving as a work around.
Loadout consiste of 2 shields & 4 heals (no absord heat).. manacles, mystic, transformation.
This may not be The best out there, but at 45% crit 135% mag it's fun none the less.
So I was watching again just to see the tank buffs for fire, and I’m sure you remember how fire tank in SM back in the day was just hold block and eat the damage because of high health pool, but technically wouldn’t you have the highest defense in game at current stage by blocking and using fortified blocking so 115% total, I know the turtle tank is outdated tbh and you lose the 50% heal received but I feel in terms of solely eating damage that isn’t a scripted 1 shot, fire with that health pool, the 30% mitigation from immolation, and blocking has the best survival (not saying without blocking is worse I am just speaking on stats). I don’t know I’m just making an opinion on it, when tanking, besides avoiding unnecessary damage by having good spacing etc, I’m just feeling the damage you can’t avoid you should just block it as fire and take get that extra 40 plus % defense . I’ll have to mess around with it, I was only considering due to the defense you gain from fire is considerably lower compared to the other powersets and you also have to keep hit counter above 5 to even receive the defense which isn’t hard but considering you have to eat alot of damage anyway to gain the buff you better off making a decision on do you want a potential of 60-75% defense with the neck mod and fire soul up 24/7 or do you want 115% defense while blocking with neck mod and lose the 50% heal, what are your thoughts on it ?

Circes mask doesnt just proc on a shield breaking, it also procs when the shield times out.
I could have clarified better, shield breaking means the same thing, breaking due to duration or breaking due to damage. If immolation was how it worked previously, would be a great artifact.

Hey bro. Just wanted to say I’m a big fan. I watch all your videos for loadouts and how each power set mechanics works. I’m recently coming back from a year or two break, I just want to know because I see some of these updated videos are coming on a year old. Is it still valuable in today came. I don’t how much the game changed since you made these videos
The powersets in this game haven't changed for around 2+ years so all these are still completely valid. The only changes that come out now are new artifacts and allies which then are more how much money you want to invest
I switched over to Fire from Earth. I love fire, but I'm finding I'm getting stunned/controlled more. I'm using my breakout trinket and PP more often than I did with earth and have the innates as well.. Is there something I'm missing?

I find putting 100 sp in health is good enough not necessarily worth the extra sp to max it out better off putting it into resto and Dom. Than you can put the rest into health or whatever.
Ah, I remember the good ole days when some of us DPS would run Eternal Flame. Healer would go down and someone would hit it while waiting for the pick-up.

One other question. You mentioned using all natural sodas, but you have in the bottle city one. Do you swap them in and out? Thanks.
If you take a all natural the buff stays for 30min unless you die so you can put the bottled and it won’t override that buff
What art set up would you use for E+? I got every tank art 200 but not sure what combo to run and im new to fire tanking
if there are adds I use mystic-eog-laz pit if its just a boss I use manacles-eog-laz
Does the weapon style matter, because I chose martial arts with fire. Seemed like a well rounded choice.
I know hearty increases the health pool, however would Quick Healing also be a beneficial chest mod?
If I'm running an Eog loadout to spam Perfect Poise, which Art should I swap out?
Hearty will still be best due to fires buffs working off health pool, the healing in increase isn’t as noticeable, for arts it would be manacles-mystic-EoG
How is absorb heat exploitable? Is it just too strong or something?
I have a hard time finding a good time to use amazonium deflection, it locks you in place for too long and you can't attack during it, seems rather situational compared to the hardlight shield. For now I removed it from my loadout in favor of a damaging supercharge or the group breakfree.
amazon deflection is more for when you are in a situation where your other abilities are on cooldown and you can sit in AD to buy yourself a few seconds to then go back into your normal rotation. Or to block boss abilities that would normally deal heavy damage to you, as long as the attack doesn't stun you out of it. You are right is it situational and comes down to preference
What's a good tank for pulling multiple adds and keeping them there and focused on You?

Hey I found this video a little late and chose Acrobatics which skills should I go for in that tree if any? Thanks for the vid it's awesome
you want to take enough SP in the tree to pick up Perfect Poise as a shield and you can then choose the movement recovery innates if you have enough SP. Perfect Poise is one of my favorite shields its very useful in combat.

Yo obsidian I need to ask you something is manacles really useful for pve or should I just run gem scrap and Symbol it 7 I run manacles and it doesn’t really do nothing
manacles is useful for elite tanking, for regular or anything else manacles will be overkill
Hey Obsidian! I was wondering how do you feel about Dilustel Refractor. Idk how to feel abt it cuz, yes you use two pulls with this build but fire tank doesnt spec Dominance so... Would Dilustel Refractor be viable for any tank?
It can be viable but its not better than Everyman Prototype or Eye of Gemini. Every tank will have Manacles/Mystic as #1 and #2. If you have refractor you can use it for something like speed runs to help buff trolls but its not worth it if you don't already have it leveled
I was happy to have that as my 3rd artifact as I leveled my manacles & mystic7 but everyone weren't to impressed i dunno or maybe they're all just sheep lol
Been having trouble understanding what I’m doing wrong when I tank Proma in TSWE. Any pointers on how to stop her staff ability from pretty much one shotting me? Some days I can cake walk proma and others it can be hassling. Is there a lunge or interruption that I’m missing? Thanks in advance.
I think there is a lunge
Not sure if you found out yet, but you can lunge her in order to stop her arctic gust staff combo and you won’t die. If that’s wut you were referring to.
Would the defense buff from NVB be worth investing in? (For normal content.)
Nah, you would be better off running Eternal Flame at that point. NVB isn't that bad as a tank supercharge but for Fire there are better choices.

Fire and Rage are meta and will continue to be for awhile. Speccing wise it would be the same as this video

no, amazon deflection is coded as a shield so you are ok.

@@bernardgray792 not sure if it'll block Braniacs charge but you can be block broken by the adds which usually everyone rolls away from the hit as a tank

Acrobatics should be called spiderman or something because you just annoyingly stick to everything and the camera's and directional controls are a nightmare

Hrmmm.. can't decide between changing my power to Rage and Fire tank. Any advice?
fire will be the better dps side of the power if that counts in your decision. Rage tanking will be better with lower artifacts as well.
@@ObsidianChill thanks for the reply. I really need to work on "Tanking" and therefore that side of things. I have always been pretty medium with the countering system, but after controlling for a good while I want to try a different experience.
Are you going to update this for the Clarion artifact?
Clarion is an optional artifact for tanking and I’ve seen more success with healers running it. Clarion isn’t good enough to drop manacles/mystic/EoG/Everyman/refractor for fire.
But *why* is fireball taunt worse than lasso. Genuinely curious as you've convinced me to use Amazonian Deflection instead of an "ult" lol
since fireball is a projectile it can miss and get line of sighted and it has no real effect except to apply burning.

Since you do not use a group brake out. Does that mean superman ally is not useful as a fire tank?
Yes. Superman requires you to use a group breakout ability in order for the support ability to activate
If resto is +30% and dom is +25% for healing, why wouldn't you put all your skill points in resto (after health) and get all your dom from augments? Thanks!
Fire’s benefit revolves around health pool, similar to rage. You want your health pool as high as possible which is why your sp is placed there first. While resto is important it doesn’t have that much of an impact overall for fire. Same concept where dom isn’t needed to be spec’d heavily for a healer.
@@ObsidianChill I was actually partially confused on the stat part as well but for a different reason. I was surprised that you put more into restoration over dominance due to dominance and restoration being added together to determine what your being healed. Dominance is helpful for defensives and overcoming enemies will power (taunting, dragging,) I’m a pretty decent fire tank in game but I usually put one 4th of my sp into restoration and the rest into dominance. Is this the wrong tactic?

Regarding the damage to the burning enemies for the additional defense. I've heard you have to hit 15 on the hit counter to get the full benefit. Is that still correct?
In the rotation video you didn't get the hit count high, is that something that is also situational?
It changed at GU103 so the Fire Soul stack count have been reduced to requiring 5 (down from 20) to get max defense bonus.

Is that situational or something to focus on having up at all times?
@@bernardgray792 in actual raid or alert content it will be easy to maintain the 5 counter, in open world nothing poses that much of a risk to you anyways as a tank

Fire look muuuch weaker from atomic. Atomic have alot more heal. Shield from atomic will take whole dmg

Pull. Shield. Block. BACKDRAFT. Block. Repeat.
Its that simple. Because THAT is what Tanks are supposed to do.
