  • This simple idea ended up working out AWESOME! I was need of a big rake to clean up this property. I thought it was a little more of a mess than a Harley rake on the skid loader would be able to tackle. I think this is one of those things that I will end up using a lot more than I expected. What a cool tool! The Caterpillar 305 mini excavator just got a lot more useful!

It’s awesome you have the tools and ability to make this rake and other attachments as well. It’s like you’ve brought being industrious to an art form. Very cool!

Just a thought. You can make that rake where a thumb would have clamped onto it. Then just set it down to use bucket and thumb to load amd pick it back up quickly to rake. No need to attach or unattach anything that way

Very nice work! I have been building a number of attachments for my mini also. I have a local shop cut out any fancy items for me on their laser table and it's a very reasonable price. You might find that you with it had tilt, not a terribly hard thing to add and would be a fun project.
I like that you bolted it to the bracket saves money on buying multiple brackets. especially for a tool that you likely won't use all the time.

      Thank you for your comment!
Yes, I am just hoping the bolts do not break - it may be a weak point but I am not sure. But they are 1" grade 8. So far so good. I ran this rake for about 12-15 hours total on that project. I plan on making a plate to hold the auger from the skid on the excavator, and that is why I went with the bolted bucket adapter mechanism.

A great idea, but it needs a single tooth ripper on the back so when you curled the rake, you can rip out small stumps, roots and rocks and it needs a full thumb for loading all that debris and caterpillar needs to give you a hat so you’re not wearing a John Deere hat!

I would say that works very well. I may have to make one myself

Would longer teeth help get the dirt out better?

Cool rake. I was waiting on you to shape the teeth into a more aggressive angle but I suppose there's no reason to do that with the point already on the cutting end. Looks sturdy.

Yeah, I really thought about it. So far it is working okay. The downside of what I did is that there is no "wear edge". A big benefit to teeth type setups is the wearability. So once it's worn down, it will have to be fabricated again. But I ran this 12-15 hours and no sign of wear yet so I think I will get enough use to not worry too much about it.

What grade steel did you use for the teeth?

@@RockyBottomAcreshard face the wear edges with weld so that becomes the wear face. easy to top them up as they wear awau

Nice job fabbing up that rake. It gives me some ideas on cleaning up some ditches around here. Do you feel like your rake is more productive than say a 3-point root rake on a tractor?

I think so, because you have a lot more orientation and control over an excavator boom. I thought about a skid loader, but it’s wider and thought it would miss more in high/low spots. I think this would be perfect for ditch work!

Where did you get the attachment part?

Found on eBay, “305cr adapter plate” or “305cr mount plate”

i saw the part where a tiny root stopped it. its useless. a regular bucket already has teeth

😂😂😂 if you say so…. Purposely putting the minimum amount of ground force down as possible. The goal isn’t to dig…. But alright, I’m happy with the attachment. I have won a lot of clean up jobs with this, so I guess to each their own. Thanks for the view and comment!
