    You can also get access to free resources on our website here: paintingbusinesspro.com/ Low bidders is one of the most common complaints I see people have when it comes to selling jobs. Especially when people are using lead services, they complain that it’s a “race to the bottom” and there are “too many low bidders” and they “can’t compete with these low bidders”.
    Yes, there are always low bidders. Yes, you can beat them. In this video, we talk about the psychology of sales and how to deal with low bidders mentally, and how you can still win bids even when you are not the low price.
    It’s not all about price. Trust trumps price every single time. This video is about how to build trust, and how to “win” on all the non-price factors in an estimate. When you win on all the other factors, the low price doesn’t win.

    Ive been in the trades for 35 years,my father was a tradesman and so was his. New construction house needs primer and 2 finish,or it just wont hold up.i dont care what paint you use. A repaint needs spot priming and 2 coats. If your doing spot prime 1 finish i guarantee it will not look its best,and will not hold up as long. How would you like to pay 9800.00 to paint your house and it looks great for 2 years then by the time 5 years goes by it looks like time to paint again,,fuck that..My paint jobs look perfect for 5 and they think about repaint in 8 or 9...but decks and windowsills usually need to be touched up often.

    If your estimates are accurate and somebody undercuts you by 30% you'll probably only have to compete against him until he gets his next paint bill.

    I had a few minutes before giving an estimate, and your video popped up. Yet again, another great video with great content. Perfect motivation right before this estimate.

    If im higher and another guy is lower like the example you said, i say to them Ive been paint long time i stand behind my work and i give a guarantee.Some times you can come down 2 or 3oo if you really can do it for less. I say never have a partner because you both have to make boss pay and that brings overhead up considerably.

    Like your story about Ben (12:01 in the video). We had the exact same scenario - we offered the same service, but at a much higher price. Customer brought out both contracts, and we basically said: "Yeah, for that price I would go with them if your'e comfortable with their company." It's crazy, but the customer called us the next day, and wanted us to do the job. We were more than $1k higher on price.

    We may also be speculating that we lose out to a low bidder, unless you know this for a fact.
    If you’re speculating it’s because of an insecurity somewhere in your sales process.
    But don’t speculate on this and miss the actual reason for missing out on bids like sending it too slow, not professional enough, etc.

    Ive been to so many estimates where a cheap painter has totally botched up their job...some people still don't learn! I went to do an estimate just the other day. They paid this guy just £200 to paint their hallway, landing, and stairway and he worked for the day and left! I told the customer he underpriced the job and basically got his day rate and left. Guess what, i estimated a great price to finish his job and the other rooms too and she said its too high for me. Wow you can't win. If they don't want to pay im off to the next job!

    Hey Eric, I have been following and watching your videos.
    I have learnt a lot and I am ready to start up my painting business . The only problem I’m stuck at this moment is finding a good business name that catches the customers / clients attention. I was wondering if you might have any business names that you can suggest. Basically the business involves painting interior/ exterior , roof painting , interior/ exterior epoxy coating and blasting & painting .
    Mate if you can help that will be much appreciated .

      I have an article with some direction on that. Just search for "how to name my painting company" on Google and you'll find it.
      One thing I'll warn you about - don't do too many things at the beginning. It's a lot easier to grow your business if you have a smaller focus. You are trying to do a lot of different things there!

    I am super guilty of downing myself for not bidding a job lower bc someone else bought cheaper paint than I spec the jobs for. I've almost considered buying cheap paint just to compete. But it's not worth it for the customer and it's not worth it for me to work with it.

    how do I down load your forms for bidding and other forms you offer?

  • @stevensmith8977

    My question is... how do low bidders make money? Not just in painting but in any construction trait, like how the hell is that person making money if they doing it for the cheapest possible i feel like at that point your just have work just to have work, which is stupid

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  4 роки тому

      Exactly. They aren't making a lot of money. They're underpricing and undervaluing themselves, scraping by, and in a vicious cycle. They need to bid low to get the next job because they NEED the money.
      It's really easy to get out of this trap, but can be scary for people. You just need to make your sales process better and charge more.
      But people who are bidding low are doing it because they don't have a strong sales process, which is why you can beat people who bid low. Also, bidding low means you can't have a large business (not charging enough) so you don't run into them that often.

      PaintingBusinessPro can you explain to me why you can’t grow if you yourself was painting the walls with a crew by your side?

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  4 роки тому

      @@stevensmith8977 Hours in the day! You can grow it, but only to a point. I could make the same case for "you can't grow your business if you do all the estimates" or "if you do all the project management". In order to grow, you have to hire other people to take over roles.
      You might be able to do all the painting with your crew and still do 5 estimates a week... and even manage a 2nd crew. But you won't be able to do 10 estimates a week and manage 3 crews, for example, if you're doing the painting alongside the crew.
      So you painting will limit ability to grow... but it's not a bad thing! You can run an awesome business and make great money while doing painting with your crew also!

      PaintingBusinessPro ohh ok now makes sense, yeah I’d rather be the guy who doesn’t do the work physically and have endless amount of work and not be limited like you said

    Should I be putting this on the proposal documentation? “We are not just beating price but beating customer care, integrity, professionalism,” etc.? Should I even put those on the side of my van?
