      @PaintingBusinessPro I'm a 60 Yr old in the UK and ive been doing painting & Decorating for money since the lockdown. Mainly because I enjoy it and I'm.not ready for my pipe n slippers yet. Although the lingo and the brands etc are slightly different the basics remain the same. Now I intend to build my business with the intention of subbies earning me a slice in years to come and, having just stumbled upon your videos , I am very impressed. Your comments are spot on and you are now my go to American buddy when I need focus, belief and direction.😉👍

    Great insight at 8:58
    "Use the fact that you are a small new company with no overhead to your advantage."
    As a new company, you do not have the carrying costs of employees and leased property to have to include within your sales price. This gives you room to offer a lower price to the customer.

    Hello! I’m a mother of three and have always loved painting my homes, friends and family members homes. I’m thinking about starting my own business but the idea of hiring out subcontractors as you mention in your video seems overwhelming. Do you have videos or lessons to direct new business owners who are more involved in jobs and not hiring out at first? Thank you, your resources have been so inspiring!

      We make sure to hire people with plenty of experience. It used to be true that we have only painters with 15+ years, but we are a lot bigger now and I don't personally know all of our painters anymore. And we also don't promise that at estimates anymore.

    What tools do you use to find and hire painting contractors?

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  3 місяці тому

      Networking, Facebook ads, talk to painters at the paint store, Craigslist. All work well to find good subcontractors

    How do you prevent the subcontractor from using cheap paint in order to increase his own margins?

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  3 роки тому +1

      You just make sure they do that. Check receipts. Go to the job site. Check in on them.

  • @endlessmindset8808

    So after showing up and doing a walk around their house (doing a free estimate for them)... do you automatically give them a price before you leave? Do you need to also email them a pdf with the total and what you will be doing for them like prep,priming, painting, etc?

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  6 років тому +8

      Meet them. Talk inside about basic things, what they need and want, colors, warranty, insurance, what they want done and what's important to them. Walk around outside and customize the estimate. Edcuate them about problems, prep work, products, and options. Work up exactly what they want done, nothing more nothing less. Provide options. They go inside, you go outside and measure. You total up your prices and the options you worked up. You write up by hand their contract. This part should take you 20-30 minutes. And once you have done it a bunch, it can take only 15-20. You walk back inside, walk them through it, and ask for the job. The total estimate is 1-1.5 hours. Some last 2 hours.

    Does the 50% include the paint? Or is that from our 50%?

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  2 роки тому

      Our contractors purchase the paint. No matter how you build the business (subs or employees), 50% is a good benchmark and target for the cost of labor and material combined.

    How Can this be done while working full time 9-5?

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  6 років тому +4

      You start generating leads though door to door, networking, or lead services when you aren't at work. Start doing some estimates. Get your first job. Hire your first contractor. Produce your first job. Do it again (still on the side). Do it long enough on the side that you are confident that with more time you can beat your job income. Then you quit your job and go full time.
      While you are doing it on the side, save up all the profits. By the time you're ready to leave your job, you should have $5k-$10k sitting in an account so you can live on it for 2 months even if you got NO results (which of course you won't, because you made $5k on the side!)

    ? What did you mean " this is a business that doesn't have professionalism " I'm confused lol

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  5 років тому +2

      This industry lacks professionalism. Most home service businesses and trades have a bad reputation because people don't operate with integrity.

    • @age_of_reason
      @age_of_reason 5 років тому +2

      @@PaintingBusinessPro I agree totally. I am working for a registered painting company right now. They have a log on their vans, t-shirts a website and @ 10 reviews on Yelp, all 5-star. Most if not all of these reviews are likely from family members because these guys are total hacks. I have hired many workers and most of them are not professional. The problem is that this industry has no barriers to entry. Any idiot can buy a paint brush, some tools and go paint (pretend to paint). Mostly bridge painters painting inside people's homes. If you don't know this then you just got into painting or you're one of the hacks so how could you know.

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  5 років тому +2

      @@age_of_reason Hacks won't last - that's why there is so much opportunity here. People who can bring professionalism (even if they are just entering the business) will always win.

      PaintingBusinessPro damn that’s a pretty sweet system you have worked out . So how do you offer the job do you just say “ hey I have a job lined up that pays 2000 but you have to buy materials . Is there a contract you make the contractor sign ?

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  6 років тому

      Yea that's basically how we pitch it. We have a subcontractor agreement we sign one time. But we've never had to use it in 8 years. We didn't even use one for the first 5-6 years and had no problems. Our "job folder" with the customer contract serves as our agreement with the sub.
      All the detailed info about how we do this, the job folder, the sub agreement, etc... It's all in my full program:

      Is there a way for me to just purchase your bid contact ?

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  6 років тому

      You mean the estimating forms and how I come up with a price or the contract I write up and present to the customer?
      Both can be downloaded for free on my website, but those won't win you jobs without the sales process. That's why I give them away for free. The real opportunity in this business is the business systems.
      For estimating forms, check out any of the estimating articles.
      For the proposal/contract, check out how to write a professional proposal article.
