The grey image is caused by converting the silica content in the slate to grey glass glass. Thus it makes no difference to the image if you spray with clear acrylic before or after because It darkens the slate but will have no effect on the grey glass. The other point to note is that for the fastest engraving cycle always work in landscape mode . There is dead time at the ends of every scan line when the head is slowing. stopping and accelerating back to engraving speed. There more scans than necessary if you have the slate the way demonstarted in this video. Turn your image and slate through 90 degrees to landsacpe and there will be maybe 30% less scans so 30% less wasted overtravel time.

Great job. I am an engraver from Belarus, we have a similar application technology, however, the quality of granite is worse, so after the machine, we refine it manually to remove stone defects. If interested, I can show how we do it, show our tools, machines, monuments and manual finishing process after the machine.

Great video. Thanks. Just curious why you'd want to clear coat it before vs after you cut it?

How did you get two images in photograve?

There is a button on the top right called "Split Window" to toggle on and off that will allow you to get 2 images in photograve.
