- Turkish delight (lokum) is a traditional Turkish candy. This recipe is very poplar and you can find this candy in different colors, flavors and with different filling (such as pistachios and almonds). This recipe is based on starch and sugar, and it’s pretty easy to prepare.
You also might recognize Turkish Delight as the candy from The Chronicles of Narnia- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
So if you like to make candies at home, you should try this delicious and sweet candy.

Ingredients:
For the candies:
3 cups (600g) Sugar
~3 1/3 cups (810ml) Water, divided
2 teaspoons Lemon juice
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
2 tablespoons Rose water
3/4 cup (100g) cornstarch
Red food coloring (optional)
For coating:
1/2 cup (62g) Powdered sugar
1/4 cup (32g) Cornstarch
Directions:
1. Grease the sides and bottom of an 8-inch (20cm) square pan with vegetable oil. Line a parchment paper, grease the parchment as well. Set aside.
2. In a large saucepan combine sugar, 270ml of water and lemon juice. Set over medium heat. Allow to boil and let the sugar dissolves. Then reduce the heat to low and let simmer until the mixture reaches 235-240F (112-115C) (soft ball stage). Remove from heat and set aside.
3. In a separate saucepan combine cornstarch and 2¼ cups (540ml) water, stir until no lumps remains. Place over medium heat, stir constantly until mixture begins to boil and mixture has glue-like consistency.
4. Gradually stir in the syrup to the cornstarch mixture and stir constantly for about 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and let simmer for about 45-60 minutes, stirring frequently, until lightly golden.
5. Stir in the rose water, food coloring and vanilla extract. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Spared evenly and allow to cool for at least 4 hours.
6. In a big dish mix powdered sugar and cornstarch. Sprinkle some of the mixture over a clean surface. Turn the dough over and cut into little squares.
7. Coat each square with the cornstarch mixture.

Ever since The Chronicles of Narnia I have wanted to know what this is. Is it so good I'll betray my whole family?:😲😆
Only if you get it from a pasty white chick in a sled. I feel like Narnia is the epitome of don't take candy from strangers
The traditional rose flavored one tastes like perfume. Better if you add a fruit flavor tbh
It is AMAZING my favourite sweet treat ever
Uujujj
I hated it :-(
So you're telling me Edmund chose Turkish delight over his family, i-
Hahaha
Omg haha. I haven’t seen that movie in years
That’s literally the only reason I’m on this video 😂
@@lennyshay6227 me too 😂

This is the best Turkish Delight’s recipe I’ve ever seen. No unnecessary talking, just short and crisp !
Okay so I made this and it was exactly like the Turkish delight you buy in a shop. Tastes super good. The only down side is it makes your arm hurt after a while of stirring lol
Really exactly like the ones with rose - flavour ?
@@tamta814 Yeah! I was quite surprised that its exactly like the ones you buy in a sweet shop
Did your cornstarch mixture smelt odd?
@@heraday I don't think so, check that your ingredients were all within the use by date
@@leemon2677 no no just that cornstarch and water mixture had a weird smell
I once had a Turkish delight years ago, my friend had a few but didn’t like their rose flavor, but I did so she gave them all to me. I hadn’t had one since but I didn’t realize how surprisingly simple the recipe is. But since I don’t have rose water I’m using tea
how did it go with the tea?
@@angelacanedit Agreed?
you dont need rose water. You can literally make this with any flavouring you want. orange blossom, orange, lime etc for more traditional ones or lavender, pineapple, cocnut etc or literally nay fruit infusion or tea for modern interpretation.
@@angelacanedit it was fine but not as good as rose water
@@wrongturnVfor orange blossom sounds good, I love floral flavors

Making it for my boi
I am so glad. I was living in a bubble thinking that Turkish delight can't be made at home. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
Turkish delights. Irresistible.
Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?
I don't know where the English people got their recipes for Turkish delight but the way they make theirs is quite different than traditional recipes.
but the original its hard automatic translated in english..i try ..i love to make this recipe...so much..
It's how the western world has known turkish delights to have been made since the 1770's, when starch and processed sugar was introduced to cooking.
Before that, it was sweetened with honey and not thickened with cornstarch. so that might be the "traditional" recipe, but also the recipes from Haci Bekir, the oldest confectionary shop in Istanbul, are like 250 years old at this point, so at this point, it's kinda traditional too, lol
Which is this? English or traditional? It looks good!
@@carolbaughan8768 since it has cornstarch, probably english
Turned out amazing! Added some pistachios with food colouring!! So delicious!
I'm in love again...WITH THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA AND TURKISH DELIGHT 🥰✌️💓

Oh and whilst following your steps, I really really enjoyed the background music....just lovely ❤
I just made this and it tastes AMAZING! . Just like my favourite store bought brand.
Well done 👏🏾
I grew up in the 1960s in South Florida and my father had a variety of international friends and people in that air would exchange food as gifts especially desserts. Turkish delights was definitely one of them and they were delicious. Old World gummy bears.😊😊😊
I'm here cuz I was really hungry during Narnia. 😋

My sister's american friend came to our house last week. And she bought these turkish Delights. And it was so delicious. Im yearning for it. So im here to see how it is made?Love from Pakistan😍

Thanks for the recipe . This is my next project. They - the sweet companies discontinued this sweet where I live . So no I can make my own☺👍👍
Great recipe didn't have rose water and vanilla extract so I added roafza lol🤣 still turned out GREAT!
The famous turkish delights. I would love to try them.
I don't know if I have that kind of commitment to stand around waiting for 45-60 minutes... I don't even know what they taste like
It's really great. I would sell my whole family for it.
actually this is the best delight ever made of
we like the turkish delight more than jellies
because they are more joy and happy
Great recipe 👍🏻 tried it for the first time and came out perfect. Thank you
I always assumed it used gelatin. But this looks so much easier! Wonder if I could mix fruit juice in with the corn starch for a different flavor...
use fruit essences instead
Don’t use fruit juice because it can screw up the consistency. Use extract instead
Very good video! The instructions were clear and the lokums were very sweet!
We were discussing Narnia and I got curious again about Admon's Turkish Delight even after watching it like so years ago .
Looks delicious I need to make it
i would pull an edmund for some turkish delight it’s so good!

My grandma once accidentally bought uncolored lokum (with rose water flavor) and she was really confused when she tasted it. She thought she bought caramel

Edmund ate it very deliciouslllyyy 😋🤤 that's why I'm here
Thank you for the video. I tried to make it with lemon and used turmeric for the colour. It seemed ok, but after a few hours it got all wet. What have I done wrong?
Thanks for sharing such a nice Turkish delight
When I make it I'll put powdered Sugar /or Cornstarch on both sides of the Turkish Delight.:-)Before cutting.,😀I'm not sure I'd like Rose water or Mastic Turkish candy. It looks really good.🙂
I tried it before I know Edmund loves it lol
It looks very yummy. I just got a souvenir like this🤩
Thank you very mach for this video.😊
Thanks for sharing this amazing recipe. Can I use arrowroot powder instead of cornstarch as I usually does in my Chinese cooking..
I am here because of Zemo
Good recipe, THANK YOU it took along time to golden brown though
Not using cream of tartar?? It turns out fine despite that?
Easier than i expected
Mmmmmmm.... Turkish delight taste so good. That taste sweet and chewy Turkish delight. Great recipe. See u next time.
This is great, do I put the Turkish delight for 4 hours in the fridge or room temp?
Can I add 1 more tablespoon of rose water? Can we omit vanilla or does it need it?
There are very few people providing real accurate information on UA-cam. Thank you very much for stating that it belongs to the Turks.
Love from Turkey
Love the guitars
Can I add chocolate in it instead of rose water? and how would I do it?
I don't think it would be Lokum, but I think it can work
To cook it until lightly golden but that definitely is not any shade of golden colour. so how to tell if it is done?
Interesting.
I read this story Turkish Delight and l aslo search it whan l made it at home it was delicious 😋 .
aren't these ment to be more firm and not like jelly, and what chocolate do they get topped with
Very tasty,perfect...music over video is also amazing...
That looks so lovely will try
Gotta love the idiots saying they won't eat this **sweet** again because it contains a lot of **saccharides** .
Türkiye'den sevgiler emeğinize sağlık. 👍🙋♂️🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷

There is so much sugar in this recipe and the actresses in the drama used to eat this so much yet the actresses were so slim
And if i only drink water i look like a ballon😂
Wtf how did they maintain their body 😨😅
Ahh by the way thanks for the recipe
I used to see this in the drama and whenever i saw them eat this i used to think what the hell is this are they eating so yummy
😆😆😆😆
But now i know 😅😅
sugar isn't correlated to weight gain
@@tynao2029 It actually is. Because your body burns off glucose instead of your fat first. Too much sugar leads to insulin resistance which leads to weight gain. Your body burns off sugar first instead of fat...so if you eat a lot of sugar you store more fat and become overweight. Sugar most definitely is responsible for weight gain.
My days I tasted one
I couldn't stop
I don’t have rose water, can I subsitute?
should the last stirring step take 45-60 minutes? because many times I tried, it didn't reach 15 minutes until the dough was burned into the bottom. And the color of the dough is also golden. even though I have stirred it without stopping
It needs to be cooked on a low heat.
Your recipes are amazing . Love the track. Can you share the link pls

Can i use potato starch its easier to find for me
Edmund and Zemo approved.
is the syrup the rose water?
Now that I saw how they are made i am never buying them again.
why?
I’m agree with you, basically you are eating corn starch with sugar horrible candy fill with calories and fat.
@@Olimpo-tj6mk It's carbs, not fat. And most Turkish Delight candies have less calories per weight than "regular" candies or chocolate bars.
@@DaveMXR You didn't know that Carbs actually turn into fat, Unfortunately, you don't know what those candies are made of? I made them myself only once they are extremely filled with Carbs and Fat they are made of pure Corn Starch and sugar them you add any coloring to it or fruit flavors if you will.
@@Olimpo-tj6mk Well, I guess, You didn't know that carbs only turn into fat if You don't consume them as energy. So no, Turkish Delight are not filled with fat. For Your information, all sorts of candies consist of huge amount of sugars, it's not just Turkish Delight. And it's fine to eat some once a time. The problems start when people can't stop and eat entire batch at one sitting. Believe me, I know this, I read nutrition facts and researches daily and I have a healthy BMI of 22 even though I love all sorts of candies :D
Looks delicious!!!!!😋😋😋😋😋👍👍
do I cool it in the fridge or do I just leave it out?
Leave it out
So it's jello with sugar on top?
🔴 merhaba, ben yurt dışında yaşıyorum. lokum yapmak için krem tartar, veya limon Tuzu bulamadım. fakat başka altarnatif-Seçenek ❗varmı.
This turned out great for me! how can I get it a little firmer?
more cornflour/starch i presume
Cook the sugar to 260F instead of 240F, and make sure you really cook the cornstarch mixture well
Muy riquísimas gracias😘
So they just taste like vanilla with a splash of lemon ???
Just finished made this because of Hürrem! 😂
How did they turn out?
