This channel is way past brilliant. I can't even think of the right words to express my appreciation and excitement to learn from this producer. Josh is incredibly generous to share his time and wisdom of these instruments and LPx and to put in so much work to make and publish these tutorials. There has to be a tip jar around here somewhere!
Hi, My mute button is not working. I’m using an external device. When I nut the track with midi data it has know effect, the midi keeps playing. Any ideas please?
Sir Namaskar I am Gopal from India. I am much interested in music but knowing nothing. Recently I started learning (knowing ) about DAW Logic Pro X. Fortunatley it happened to me to see your channel " Music TechHelpGupy". It is icredible. Your teaching are marvelous and fabuous. I am so impressed. Because of my poor understanding in the language, I can not follow such a celerity of speech. Eventhough the knowledge and the disciplened explanation make me follow. And inspiring me more to follow. Thank you Sir - Best Regards _ Gopal (India)
I like where u r going w this series, I switched to logic a few years ago after 10+ years on pro tools and your vids were and still are a big help! I have also always said that I wish there was more or better videos on midi cc and midi channels and setting up midi controllers like my mpk249. I finally figured it mostly out but still lots of things to learn!
Thank you SO much! You are an excellent tutor. 😊🙏🏻 Just subscribed as I am trying to learn Logic& Midi alone and so far I learned more from this one video than I have with numerous videos.
Oddly enough, the keyboard shortcuts are the real stars here. With just a good knowledge of the menu & commands available you can eliminate a lot of wasted time by using mouse and keyboard shortcuts...,the shortcuts are listed in the menus and so every time you do something the long way..LEARN the keyboard shortcut! This is just a great vid - Congrats
More than 1 thumbs up! Again I learned a lot, e. g. the tip that you can merge new recorded notes into the same track, and many more. Looking forward to #9 which is already available. Thanks a lot for this series. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
OMG! I am so glad that you have started this course, the midi explanation is absolutely amazing! I thought I was using midi ok? But after going through this episode I have picked up so much. What a gem 💎 so well presented and explained, I really couldn’t wish for a better tutor and already feeling much more confident and inspired. Thank you so much
Wow, wow, wow! Thank you for just showing me to check that (cycle on) box to merge so I can layer on the same track in midi! So stoked, I had to go and tell my wife! 😅
im struggling with tempos, i don't see anybody talking about when you import diferent Midi files and they're at a difrent tempo, how can you make it or edit so they're on the same tempo, or do you have to re writte completly the new part?
Hi Josh. Firstly, this video series has been a godsend to an ancient musician who is, admittedly, not the quickest study. Your delivery is at a wonderful pace - certainly not the 78rpm of other instructors. I've been a drummer for 50 years, and am getting "wet behind the ears" with digital (I use Roland drums, LogicPro and Toontrack's EZdrummer 3 software). I'd like to tinker with my minimal piano skills, and am considering an economic midi keyboard controller. The two on my list are the Arturia MiniLab 3 and the Alesis V25 MKII, both about $109. Without doing any kind of endorsement, could you offer a few plusses or minuses on either brands, if you've worked with them? Again, my thanks for a terrific learning experience. -- Steve
I absolutely love your channel! I wondered if you could do a video on External Software Instrument? I have a KORG minilogue XD and I can't figure out how to have the synth lay down midi data, but Analog Audio? Also, I cant figure out which channels to use for my midi controller (Novation impulse) vs my synth (minilogue). The impulse synchs to the MIDI clock, but the Korg does not. I'm betting others may be interested in setting up external instruments too. Thanks man for all the great content!!
You really know your stuff dude! Very well presented and easy to follow. My main meter is showing red. Does that mean one or more of my tracks is clipping? I’m just learning and I’d really like to get this straightened out. Thanks dude!
I am new to Logic Pro and this was very helpful. I noticed that when you started playing one of the midis the key changed in the projects signature. Is that feature only specific to certain midis? I am just using an old Casio keyboard for my midi interface. I actually had to drag it up out of the basement and dust it off to start playing around with midi in Logic Pro.
Hi, just starting out, love this video. Do you have a video on the output for the sound? I have a headset but not any kind of a speaker and I’m not sure how to hook that up and can you use both at the same time?
Great video, I am just moving from djing to producing and your videos are fantastic, I am going to pay for a little Midi controller or Keyboard, what would you recommend? thank you
I really enjoy your teachings and knowledge of Logic and over all music knowledge. I wanted to ask why during playback the recording is skipping on each of the 3 tracks. Can you help? I’m using a MacBook Pro running 10.7.5 with MacOS Monterey
Getting loads from your vidoes in my new journey into production, I am looking at a midi keyboard at the moment. I use Logic, what midi keyboard would you recommend? cheers
Can you do a modern rock record, mix & master tutorial all Logic Pro x plugins. I know you’ve had an older one which is great but I’d like to see an updated version & what you’d do different.
All good ...... however is there a way to open a VST without all the added plugins and busses ? Maybe you already have a video on this ? Show me the way !!!
Is there a way, to assign a MIDI Controller set of Knobs ( X touch Mini) to be on the Master Channel Only? Was thinking of adding that Transit Plugin just to the Master Channel. Is this possible?
my MIDI is really quiet when I play it. I've been going into the compression control and raising the gain so it's a decent volume. I see you didn't do that. I'm guessing I have something set incorrectly. Can you help? Thanks!
When will some one come up with a plugin like toontracks ezeplayer you could load up your fav plugin and preview i have sooo many midi files but no way of previewing them unless i drag and drop into logic (gun in mouth) its sooo painful to do this
It would be better if you say what hot keys you use or how you open some windows. I forgot how to open the volume of all tracks and I have no idea how to do it now
Is there a reason in Logic Pro that on a midi keyboard knobs like record, stop and start would be working but the actual keys to play music don’t? Everything works on other DAWs
A couple things you can check (1) make sure that there are not MIDI Input Filter options selected. Go to File > Project Settings > MIDI > Input Filter. Make sure all of the options are not checked. (2) It's possible that Logic is recognizing your MIDI controller as a control surface, which is why it might have mapped the playback controls automatically (usually it does not do this with most MIDI controllers). Go to Logic Pro > Control Surfaces > Setup and see if your MIDI controller is being recognized as a control surface. If it is, select Logic Pro > Control Surfaces > Bypass All Control Surfaces and see if that fixes the issue.
I don't know what I did, but the measure area above the tracks and above the locater no longer starts on the left with 1 and the next measure seems to be 1:00:00:12 and the next one is 1:00:01. i've tried everything I can think of to get it back to normal. What should I do? Thanks!!
Oh heck yeah I ONLY work in midi because I don't have the rooms for mic set up I don't even have 3 mics to record simultaneously. Are Midi CC's ONLY for the keyboard controls? Like what's the big difference from Midi CC's and just automating? Like what all is automated in the actual midi region editor? For me the Midi CC's confuse me. Is it ONLY for keyboard controls? I use it to add pitch riser to the snare on a build up. Other than that I don't know what all you do with region automation. I hope I'm explaining right. When you automate in the window that pops up when you double click on a midi region. Is it just to have the ability to control it from a mod wheel? I honestly don't understand the complexity of what all you can do in there. Most of us are using samples and no one does Midi specific in logic. Most of us are doing things in midi and we need midi specific courses. Hardly any of us have actual studios with big rooms. IDK this is why I wanted to do this in Ableton but the interface on it is cheesy and Logic was so much easier to learn. Ah man I think I may mean software instrument.
Hello Josh, I just watched your video on Midi recordings. What you did using the midi controllers, I am trying to do with my Yamaha MODX8+. But I can't seem to get an ext midi cin track one, and a different ext mid Music Tech Help Guyin track two to work. Each time I go to record track 2 with a different sound from my MODX, the instrument from track one becomes the same as track 2. I would love to solve this problem, and would be willing to hire you to assist with this. It should be an easy fix, but 30 days later, no luck. Any help would be appreciated. I can be reached at redrockraphael@yahoo.com
The problem for me is the short cuts and key commands I can’t remember them and using them while I work slows everything down to a crawl. Commands should be verbal by now but the type writer is like crack to producers they can’t live without it . 🫤

Hey folks! Had some technical difficulties yesterday with this one, so it's out today! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone that celebrates it!
Hi,
My mute button is not working. I’m using an external device. When I nut the track with midi data it has know effect, the midi keeps playing. Any ideas please?
you are easily the best educator in this field i have ever come across
this man is a national treasure and a legend.

Man this was immensely helpful. As a beginner to both Logic Pro and MIDI, I cannot thank you enough!
Josh, your videos are just way beyond. The information and the way you present it; it’s just the best. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
No dude that WAS a masterpiece at the end. Thank you so much for this video you’re the man
I wish this series came out years ago, thank you!

I got a lot out of this... especially your three shortcuts; double-click for the new track, cmd-R to repeat and cmd-U to cycle. Thanks!.
thank you always ! from Korea. I'm always learning a lot from your UA-cam channel
Great and accurate intro to midi. Ideal for beginners and even experienced musicians that never really understood midi. 👍

Excellent video

Thanks again! and.......Happy Thanksgiving!

Which Thunderbolt USB Multi-Port Adapters do you use and where did you buy them?
Thnx!
If you have a smaller midi controller how do you play other parts of the piano outside the number of keys you have on your midi?

I got told at music college MIDI stood for Musically Intergrated Digital Instrument but I guess this means the same thing?
What is the Midi Controller shown at 4:17 ?
That is a monogram creative console. It's a magnetic modular CC controller.
It would be better if you say what hot keys you use or how you open some windows. I forgot how to open the volume of all tracks and I have no idea how to do it now

Nice Michigan hat.
How do I prevent the sounds from changing when I import midi files into a new session? They all go back to "Steinway Piano" 🤢

Sounds like you have the musical grid turned off. Go to File > Project Settings > General. Then turn on your musical grid.
@@MusicTechHelpGuy Thanks so much!
those chords reminded me of Ethnicolor 🙂😀

That'll be the next video when we jump into the Piano Roll editor.
