    Good advice man! Good for beginners or folks familiar w/ Logic. If you have experience w/Logic and just want to find out how to transpose to a chord not available in the loop group that you are working with, skip to 5:56. Great explanation of a good way to achieve this goal. Thanks for saving me time Bob!

    You can use the transposition global track. Just click to put dots on the line and drag the section between the dots. Similar to how the volume automation line and dots work.

    You can import the mandolin audio file in Celemony Melodyne Edit and change any note in any chord to create any new voicing you desired. So you can change a major 3rd note to a minor 3rd etc and other chords on any prerecorded audio. Just a note

      Great! Thanks for the comment. I was trying show this process without buying an expensive plugin. I have Melodyne but most don't so I was just using Logic's stock plugins. Thanks.

    Holy camoly. This is like the hidden holy grail for music productions using loops with different keys. OMFG😱 Now I can finally restore my arrangements with out of key loops. I stopped using loops for this issue and started making my own music from scratch with no loops. The obvious was all the time in my face (transposing via semi tones counting). Awesome.

    Very helpful! I've wondered how to make better use of the loops this way--I never noticed Logic "respecting' the chords I've got going on in MIDI tracks with any loops I've added afterwards--now I know how to make more intelligent use of them!
    One quick tip I don't see in other comments: rather than duplicating track clips, if you hover over the end of a loop, your pointer tool will change: if you hover over the top half of the end, it will change to a LOOP POINTER, which will DUPLICATE the loop exactly from its beginning (so you could have a pair of measures with C-F, but then just dupe the loop rather than copy and paste), and continue until you stop duplicating, even starting over if you stretch it multiple times its original length. I think it's better to refer to this as "cloning.".
    Hovering over the BOTTOM half of the end will change your pointer to a RESIZE POINTER, which allows you to add blank "tape" to the end of a loop.
    You've probably figured all that out, but this is for anyone who might see this after me who either didn't know you could do that, or wondered why you didn't. Different strokes for different folks. I just thought I'd toss that in for options.
    But the meat of this tutorial is VERY helpful. Thanks!

    great tutorial. I have absolutely no music theory, but I'm having fun trying to get the right sound in logic anyway. Hopefully I'll absorb some of the theory along the way from people such as yourself. :) When I go to the top to find out what the scale of my song is, nothing is there.

      Bob Sell beginner stuff when it comes to music would be great. Such as, "How to make a chord, using musical typing, and which chords usually go together as a rule." Seems simple, but this would be great knowledge for a beginner to have. I know it might be hard to make it basic because there are a lot of ways to break the rules in art, but a series of tutorials that focus on say, three to five notes that work great together, to create certain moods. This way a beginner could work on those for practice and then you could slowly start to expand with future videos. Really useful stuff for a person such as myself. Thanks for asking!

    Hello M. Sell, thank you for another great video... I"d like to add something I noticed in case some people run into the same issue I had. When you choose another color track for your apple audio file, the option "transpose " does not appear. Therefore after checking in the manual which said that the option works with either green or blue apple loops, I reimported my audio loop without assigning a color, and the transpose parameter appeared!

    This was a feature in Sony's "Acid Pro" for years and years. To be able to take a snippet of audio, and right-click and go higher or lower with the transpose -- with .wav files.
    I have tried all options to get this feature in Logic Pro, but to no avail WITHOUT USING APPLE LOOPS. I have dozens of sampling CDs, all in .wav format.
    Call me a quack, but I think Apple is forcing people to use their proprietary format to be able to transpose pitch for audio files.
    I'm not sure how Logic Pro converts all these .wavs to apple loops. Is it essentially duplicating everything? And then you're forced into using it's little browser? That's a huge waste of space on my hard drive. And it's a major hassle.
    I don't know how i'm going to convert hundreds of sample loops to simple be able to use them. And I know Apple could make the feature available to .wav files, but they are playing this little game with it's users.

    • @BobSell
      @BobSell  7 років тому +1

      There is a process to convert wav files to Apple Loops. But you are correct, it's a lot of trouble and you'll be duplicated files. Why don't you just put your wav sample on a track and use Flex Pitch in Logic to transpose? That would be the easiest solution!

    • @BobSell

      Click to the right of the transpose number in the inspector and drag up or down for semitones. Use the arrows to transpose up or down octaves or 12 /24 semitones.

  • @jesster816

    • @BobSell

      +jesster816 The dropdown menu only shows increments of octaves (+ & - 12, 24, etc.). Just double click on the number (0) and it will highlight. Then just type the number. All numbers will be positive unless you precede with the - sign. Hope this helps!

      I don't have enough info to answer your question. Try dragging a green or blue Apple loop to the blank area below the tracks and allow Logic to create the track for you and see what happens. Otherwise, take a screenshot or post a video showing the problem and and I'll try to help.

      Many things could cause this. I don't have enough info to answer your question. However, next time this happens try dragging the midi loop to the blank area below the tracks and allow Logic to create the track for you. Otherwise, take a screenshot and send it to me via private message and I'll try to help.

      using the up/down arrows only transposes by 12 semitones. You can click on the number and mouse drag by one semitone or just type the number in the window. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the reply. I found through fumbling that I could only transpose 1 measure/loop and not the 2 measure I merged. Also, I'm having trouble getting the transpose/etc. numbers to move because my cursor is enlarged via previous version of OSX, in the universal access pane and in the Yosemite 'accessibility' pane, I am not finding it. I think if my cursor was back to normal, though I probably won't be able to see it, I won't have as much trouble. Any idea how to shrink it again? Thanks for the great tutorials. I can't wait to get to more of them, if I can manage to find them....

    • @BobSell
      @BobSell  9 років тому +1

      Gregor Rice There are 2 types of Apple Loops, audio (blue) and software loops (green). You can change the tempo of the song and transpose any of the loops. However, once you merge ("Join") or "bounce in place" audio loops are converted to regular audio files and you lose that flexibility. The audio loops are protected from destructive edits so you can always go back to get the original. One option is to not merge or bounce audio regions. The only time it's really necessary is if you are wanting to edit the audio file using the "Functions" command in the audio editor. Notice all of the functions are grayed-out if you're editing audio apple loops. Software instrument loops create midi regions that are very flexible. You can do about anything with these including editing specific notes in the piano roll to change pitch, note value, velocity, etc. I did not update to Yosemite yet so I don't have the cursor problem. Try clicking on the transpose number to highlight then use your typing keyboard to input the value you want to transpose. If transposing down make sure to use the - sign before the number. Otherwise, all numbers typed default to + positive. Hope this helps.

      Bob Sell That's great. Thanks! When I get set up with the full monty, I will use more live midi and s/i loops that are easier to manage. But for now... trying to get some old midi files written with the K-2000 patched in with instruments that 'work' in place, doesn't always work. But NOW, if you're still on the line... I pulled another stunt... thought the cursor was in 'search' field, but not... and I typed in 'guitars' with all HOT keys. So, I got global and 'record' started up... I haven't looked up the other hot key letters yet to see what else I did, but whatever, the 'issue' is that it seems my Library is messed up now. It seems like there are not as many sounds, or ? Don't know, and I know that doesn't help you, but if you have a clue, I need to get my sounds back the way they were. I did 'refresh' the library a couple times but it didn't seem to do anything different. I have all the Logic sounds, of course, then Komplete9, Jampacks 1-2-3, probably something else. Thank you so much for your input. I did go to the Apple forum, but some reason a red box came up and said 'I was not allowed to post' ? That happened a few days before but after typing in more info, it when thru fine. ?

      @BobSell  9 років тому

      Gregor Rice There is no hot key that I know of that would mess up your Library. G=Global U=Set rounded locator I=Toggles Inspector T=Toggles Tools A=Toggles Automation R=Record. Sorry I'm not help on that one. Good luck!

    Hi Bob! I am an old Acid Pro user that switched to a Mac. Don’t want to install Windows on the Mac just to use Acid Pro but I miss Acid’s ability to transpose and time stretch Acid loops with ease. Have tried using FL Studio and Cubase Elements on the Mac but it’s not the same. After watching this video I think I found my next DAW! Question...will Logic Pro X transpose and timestretch Acid Loops the same way it works with Apple Loops? It would be great if I can use my Acid Loop library in LPX the same way I did in Acid Pro! Thanks for a great video!

      +Aleksej Tatarikow #1. Are you using Apple Loops? You can not transpose any loop unless they are Apple Loops. #2. Are you selecting the clip/region that you want to transpose before changing the transpose amount? #3. You don't have to bounce in-place to make this work. That was just a clean up item. Play/audition the clip to make sure it transposes before you bounce in-place. #4. I don't think you have to enable this function. It's on all the time. #5. I'm not sure what you mean by choosing the top chord. Hope this helps!

    Hi Bob. I'm trying to re-create your process in an empty song using the same Cheerful Mandolin 11. When I go to the Transpose section for the selected instrument, I only see a drop-down menu to change raise or lower the loop by octaves. I don't see the +1 or +2 options. Am I missing something? BTW, I'm using Logic 10.0.7. Thanks!

    • @BobSell
      @BobSell  9 років тому

      Hi Scott, just double click the 0 and change the value. Values are all positive unless you put a -minus before the number. For example, a value of 5 transposes the region up 5 semitones. A value of -3 moves it down 3 semitones. Hope this helps. Good luck!

    • @BobSell
      @BobSell  9 років тому

      BTW - in the video I'm clicking and dragging the value up and down with the mouse. I find this easier than typing in values. Always seems to be more than one way to...

    • @KidmuseBethandScott
      @KidmuseBethandScott 9 років тому

      Bob Sell Thanks for the quick response, Bob. There was no "0" to double-click. However, I futzed around and discovered the 2 ways to change the pitch: 1) when I place the mouse in the black area next to the word "Transpose" I can raise or lower in semi-tones by holding down the mouse and dragging up or down; and 2) if I double-click in the black area next to the word "Transpose", I can type in +2 or whatever I want. Phew.

Keep your video to the point and first explain what you have put in your title. then you can talk about anything you want. You could simply said that go to audio track and select transpose option. but no , you went on explaining difference between audio apple loop and then midi apple loop, etc etc.....
