They didnt march into the battle because they thought that something´s gonna protect them. They marched into the battle because they thought that their fate was already decided.
🤘🎄🎄🤘 indeed crazy times
Sabaton’s just like: ”Let’s just put in the entire ’Lords Prayer’ (in Swedish) into the song” (it makes sence because it’s the song Caroleans prayer)
I f-king love this band, man, they are amazing! Thanks, as always, for the reaction, it’s great! 👍
🤘🎄🎄🤘
Fun fact. The tactical warfare used by the swedish Carolean army was later implemented by the British red coats which made it even more famous and later ofcourse the rest of the european armies. Thats how Great Britain managed to subdue almost all of their enemies and expand their empire.
Tomorrow, Nov. 30th it's 302 years since Carolus Rex (Karl XII) died. So long live the king tomorrow then? It's about his death.
Translation of the Swedish part: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name in thy kingdom, and thy will be done. as in heaven so and on earth and forgive us our guilt. One fun fact is that Joakim did study church organ.
NIce!
I think instead of forgive us our guilt its forgive us our sins.
We got the exact same prayer in Denmark, and I remember my grandmother used to say this prayer (saying grace) before we were allowed to eat on Christmas Eve. We weren't that religious but at Christmas it was a tradition to say it. This was in during the 80's and early 90's as far as I remember
@@argantyr5154 That prayer exist in english also it's called "the Lords prayer"
@@christianforsstrom2222 bönen kommer från Herren själv. Han som lärde oss den.
Herrens bön
9 Så skall ni be:
Fader vår, som är i himlen.
Helgat blive ditt namn.
10 Komme ditt rike.
Ske din vilja på jorden
liksom den sker i himlen.
11 Ge oss i dag vårt bröd för dagen.
12 Och förlåt oss våra skulder,
såsom också vi förlåter dem
som står i skuld till oss.
13 Och för oss inte in i frestelse
utan fräls oss från den onde.
Matteusevangeliet
Pater noster?
"In to battle, walk in a line, see the white in their eyes, caroleans are marching on."
Muskets were nutoriously inaccurate and takes a long time to reload, so the caroleans would march towards the enemy in 4 lines. At about 150 - 100 meters the enemies would fire off their muskets and start to reload, but most of them would miss. The caroleans kept marching through the fire, even with their friends falling right next to them and close the gap to about 50 meters. Then the first 2 lines would open fire and be way more accurate than the enemies first volley. After that the front and rear lines swap places and they keep marching to about 25 meters, or until you can "see the white of their eyes" and the rear, (now the front) lines would fire their muskets. At that distance, the inaccurate muskets were suddenly pretty accurate and the second volley would be devestating to the enemy. Then they would brake line and charge the enemy with bayonets and sabres.
Edit: Fixed grammar a little bit. Also, Sabaton has a "Sabaton History" channel on youtube where they go over the history in their songs. I recommend you check it out.
Mäktigt, de visste jag inte.
@@Revament That tactic was called "gå på" or "march on" in english i guess. That order can still be given in the Swedish military today, though how it is performed has been updated it is basically an order to perform a very ferocious assault, usually against a fixed position.
Fick fan tårar i ögonen! Hade hört talas om historien men inte så detaljerad. Satan vad jag älskar mitt fosterland!
Just imagine, walking in line through battlefield while being shot man next to you falling down, just to be replaced by man behind him. Walk on towards enemy rifle lines, waiting for muskets to fire at you.
Walk on until you "see white in their eyes". Just then you and your comrades open fire with simultaneous salvo at enemy.
couldn't do it lol
@@v3tReacts And think more - Carolean warfare was carried out with pikes, rapiers and bayonets to complement the muskets some carried. Very close personal style of combat.
@@MrFrikkenfrakken and they had a skilled cavalry of around 800 men in 4 squads to support in each army, similier to what England later implanted/copied as The Red Coats cavalry in 1800's
@@Sannoz Yeah their cavalry utilization was extremely clever and effective.
They were convinced that it was God and not the enemy who decided who would fall and who would live. They also had mandatory church service.
It's funny, I don't believe in any god but I have a very hard time NOT singing along with the Lord's prayer in this song.
Awesome that you liked it!
I love love love this song, there is something so beautiful about it... it's like hearing an "echo" of a army on a march, long gone. As a finn, I'm sure if I dug far enough there are some of my ancestors in those lines.
btw. Sabaton is a great band for taking a walk. I literally take bigger steps and walk faster.
Now its Karl XII's death day in Sweden November 30th. Some of us remembers him still even though we are called nazis for celebrating a great King that spent half his life defending his country. Today we celebrate his living days and mourn his deaths day If it werent for King Charles we may have been speaking either danish or Russian today. Cheers from Sweden and great reaction.
I mean the extreme-right has taken to him as some sort of leader figure, not understanding that he was a massive globalist xD its so fockning ironic!
A lot of his haters seems to forget that he didn't start any war but that 3 countries in a alliance started war on Sweden. All he did was go on the offensive and let THEIR countries burn instead of Sweden. First he crushed the danes (great). then he crushed the russians (good, but he did some strategic errors which let the russian army reform faster). Then he fucked around in Poland for awhile for some reason. Then came the defeat at Poltava which shouldnt be laid at his feet as he was injured and couldnt lead the army.
So while I think the lefties should give him some more credit, I also think the right shouldnt hold him up as some kind of heroic genius. History is more complicated than just describing it in black and white, good or evil.
@@cuffzter that's war for you. Your going good all the way through the war, then you make a single mistake, that results in the fall of one of the mightiest kingdoms in history.
@@Razzlion you are just ignorant. What you call extreme right is also wrong. I came from an socialist upbringing and everyone i know always celebrated Karl XII. How do you call something globalist in the latter days with todays hindsights? Todays hindsight of globalism vs those days were democracy basically did not excist. Today we have democracy and globalism is a thing created by those that want to control world markets. So either if your extreme right or left globalism is something you should be wary of because its less and less geared to peoples will. What Karl XII did was not globalusm but defending his realm while expanding. He tried to secure his borders while installing friendly leaders on those enemy nations he dubdued in the defense war.
@@peo4989 You're missunderstanding me completely, I like the guy myself. Im not saying "anyone that likes or celebrates one of the greatest kings in swedish history is a facist nazi lover" or anything of that sort, he was a badass dude that deserves all the credit in the world.
What i meant was that the swedish neo-nazis love to hold him up as some sort of aryan nationalist supremo, and he was no where near that.
He loved integrating other cultures into sweden, especially turkey and the balkans.
He didn't go to war to "protect swedish culture and spread the good word of the aryan people".
As you so rightly said he went to war to protect the nation and securing the swedish border regions.
It's just unbelievable how the Caroleans could go to battle outnumbered 3-1, 4-1 or sometimes even more and still prevail with little own casualties, often not more than 500-700 dead and 500-700 wounded.. The enemy lost 10x men in the battles against the 🇸🇪
Swed's are amazing!! 🤘🎄🎄🤘
The swedish part in this song was the "our father" in swedish
Interesting!
I hope i'm thinking of another song
@@v3tReacts It's called the Lord's prayer in English.
@@cglanner3806 depends on who you're asking and what sect of Christianity they were raised with
Part of Karl XI (Karl XII father, and the true genius) reinvention of Sweden was introducing an extremely fatalistic interpretation of Christianity where God had decided everything in minute detail. Everything that happened was according to God's plan.
One side was that whatever the King said was the word of God, since God had planed for him to say so("my words were said in heaven and so it shall be done" from the Carolus Rex track).
On another, more tactical level, as a common soldier if you lived or died on the battlefield was already decided and there was nothing you could do anything about so there was no reason to fear. As long as you courageously did your duty heaven awaited you if you died.
To really hammer the messege home, the Carolean army had an extremely high amount of military priest and was extremely zealous.
Today we would definitely regard them as religous extremists
Yes. Very similar to Valhalla.
I'm looking forward to Killing ground, Long live the King and Ruina Imperii. Goosebumps
Thanks for watching 🤘🎄🎄🤘
Hope you have a wonderful sunday.
Thank you! You too! 😎
@@v3tReacts you’re welcome.
Told ya!! 😄🤘 You can't go wrong with this song! The whole Carolus Rex album is a masterpiece. "Long live the King" is very suitble for your next Sabaton reaction, since Carolus Rex (Karl XII) died in the 30:th of November, 1718. The English version is as good as the Swedish one in this case. Great reaction, btw! 🤘
Heyy, great reaction as always. May I suggest to use Piscator's lyrics video for your Sabaton reactions? His videos are pretty well made and accurate
I'll check it out
@@v3tReacts YES! I recommend piscators videos whenever possible, often times they're better than even the official sabaton videos
If you're enjoying the Power Metal kick, I might also suggest Blind Guardian, a good entry point for them is their song Valhalla. If you've already reacted to them and I've only overlooked it, I apologize, as for next Sabaton song Poltava is about the greatest defeat the Carolean's suffered which was really the beginning of the end for the Swedish Empire.
Carolean infantry tactics were revolutionary. Rather than exchanging fire in lines they advanced in three ranks. The first rank fired at about 50 meters, the second at 25 and the third rank was armed with swords and would charge after the second volley followed by the rest armed with musket and bayonet. The tactic was known as "marching on" because they did not stop to fire. "Through hostile fire they will march. The enemy line almost always broke. They were defeated because Sweden didn't have enough men to replace their losses during the prolonged Great Northern War. Also Charles XII was the original Napoleon/Hitler because he thought marching on Moscow was a great idea.
"see the white in their eyes" talks about the tactic in the song, they went close enough to see the white in their eyes.
@@ennisdelmar807
Yeah, but I'm American so I associate that with Bunker Hill and it sounds odd to me in any other context.
If you dont't know already, the choir recits the old hymn or psalm "Our father"
Thank you. Next from Finland. Tuska Utopia / Battle Beast Straight to The Heart. Noora Louhimo amazing voice.
Thanks for watching 🤘🎄🎄🤘
Liked how u just growed along to the Swedish parts.
This album is fantastic in both English and Swedish if you want the full experience listen to both versions
Poltava or Price of a Mile next song.
🤘🎄🎄🤘
I'm so used to hear this in swedish. It's way better with or i'm just used to that. I do understand both so it's good...
Its chastise not Just died
Thank you for correcting me 😊
Sabaton 🤗🤗 it's better in Swedish
It is but English is needed sometimes lmao
Agreed. Sabaton is great in English; but Swedish lyrics blow the English lyrics out of the Baltic (water). Far more powerful and more empathetic meaning.
Awesome : )
I’m a bit late to the party, but this song basically describes how strong the christian beliefs were among the swedish troops in these times. They were more or less on par with the most extreme radical fanatics you can find on earth today, if not more. They didn’t fear death because in their minds god had already decided their fate before the battles and more or less saw themselves as the ”sword” of the protestant faith
Sabaton is swede power ❤️🤟
Do Killing ground, it might be the best on the album
See the white in thier eyes.wow
think you were looking for curch organ to metal. :-)
YES lmao I couldnt for the life of me remember lmao!!
Great reaction! Long live the king?
Most definitely!
Hi V3ts just wondering between yourself wickster and back2school have you guys done Gott Mit Uns which is on this album after lion from the north. Just curious.
nope its on my list to get done
@@v3tReacts cool.
Great reaction! Hope you watch sabaton history aswell 😃
We will!
FINALY someone reacts to sabatons best song by a country mile. Back in the day when kings fought on the battlefield.
Swedens last warrior king. A but of a nuttcase, but thats sweden for you 😂
The course is our father prayer, dated to around 1680, song is called karoleans prayer, and korelians was from 1750 ish i think. So its a little missleading name. Not read the whole history about it, just bits of it...
And its "justice" Not "just dies"

🤘🎄🎄🤘
The Caroleans where more or less religious fanatics. They did have top notch equipment and training for the time but the indoctrination or their religious belife was heavy.
They where the Talibans of their time, but with good gear and training :)
Maybe sabaton long live the king. Great song
how you have no name ?
2 vids for you V3T to follow up on this: a swedish version with english lyrics, very powerful visuals: ua-cam.com/video/nnfPywPhCVc/v-deo.html and a vid that explains the exact tactical techniques they used, should make the song even more powerful: ua-cam.com/video/R5_YJNDXhlw/v-deo.html BTW, Carolean is from Carolus, which is the latin version of Charles or Carl, both of which mean "free man", so Caroleans means "free men." Perfect for Americans right now, given the circumstances.

Thanks for watching 🤘🎄🎄🤘
Gott un mitt
Got it
Gott mit Uns?
I think you meant gott mit uns
Eller Gud är med oss
Almost xDD
Problably already comment - but the marchining sound is the actual marching sound of somewhat company or somerhing.

In the army now is epic
I think its an original to this album
In the Army Now is a cover of a song by Bolland & Bolland.

ps. the candy is good too
The Swedish Caroleans was outnumbered in most if not all battles, no wonder they started to belive in higher powers. Also led by a Karl XII who always stayed on the frontline with his men...As most swedish succsessfull warriorkings have done in battle.
It´s harder to find that mentality when fighting against poor people in the desert for their oil or protecting Israel....
Thanks for watching 🤘🎄🎄🤘
I think you might confuse riff with solo. Just saying.
I can never think of the word riff in the middle of a reaction lmao 🎄🤘😎🤘🎄
Leave it to Sabaton to make a song that makes Christianity actually sound badass.
