We saw the Eclipse near Meadville, PA. It was a fabulous view with a great crowd of people. Everyone was pleasant and friendly. Traffic home was congested for us and worse for our daughter and son-in-law heading back to Pittsburgh. 💙

I have a story about pumpkins from my grandfather (this dates back more than a few years.)
They would usually plant pumpkins in the end rows of the corn field and one year corn was on the hilly field. In order to pick the corn on contoured rows they had to use a mounted picker on the M. At the time it ran steel wheels and to mount the picker all of the angle iron cleats had to be unbolted. Picking was going fine until he tried to turn at the end of the field, when the tractor stopped moving. The wheels were both turning but no progress was being made. He climbed off the tractor and discovered that he had run over several large pumpkins, which had effectively greased the smooth steel wheels. OOPS!

We were in the path of totality in NE Ohio. We even had petty good visibility with just some wispy thin high clouds. As it started my wife was the first to notice. The slow dimming of the light was kind of eerie. It's not like a sunset or sunrise at all. The diamond ring effect was beautiful. No picture can match watching the eclipse with your own eyes. The black disk of the Moon is limed with a silvery light. You can see the red solar prominences flare out on the edges of the darkness. Once the totality starts you can use binoculars, which I had, for a closer look. That was even more amazing. In all it was about 2 minutes and 54 seconds of totality. Definitely checked that off the old bucket list.

Pete and Hilary, You two make a wonderful team working together on the many tasks to clean up brush along the wooden fence line. Weeding out the garden area and loosening up the soil to allow it to heat up. The heat units where I live in southern New Brunswick Canada generally allow for garden planting around the 3rd weekend in May. ( Which in Canada is Victoria Day Weekend honoring Queen Victoria who reigned over the British Common Wealth which included Canada at the turn of the 20th Century around 1900. It was wonderful to hear your wonderful memory of your grandfather and how he grew pumpkins in the middle of the sweet corn after you made the great attempt as a 5 year old Lad to grow giant pumpkins. In about 5 or six weeks Mother Nature will be in full force.. The Burgers look great enjoy your weekend .

Thank you for another great episode. My grandparents always did a large garden. Grandma canned a lot from just veggies and fruits to jelly's, jams, and salsa. They always purchased in bulk what they didnt grow and they took care of the family and friends that wanted it because there was always a surplus for the two of them. There were many a jars found under the house after they both passed away where Grandpa stored the excess that wouldn't fit in the house. I learned soo much from them. I always got to hear Grandma's farm stories when she was growing up and what she always wished she could have had instead of the city life. I am trying to keep a little of grandmas dreams as I grow my own homestead/farm. I enjoy your videos because there is so much information to take in and every one of them is unique.

Pete, I'm sure you know this trick but I wanted to comment it anyway. When I am loading brush on a trailer I tie one end of a ratchet strap to a log at the front of the trailer and lay the strap underneath all the brush to the back. When I arrive at the dump site, I tie off my loose end to a tree and drive forward. The log holds the brush and the trailer drives out from under it. Then I put my log back in the trailer and pull my strap through the brush I just dumped. Comes in handy for larger trailers and is a great back saving trick. I love your content, reminds me of my childhood on a small cattle farm!

At your best with this one, Pete. The simple things of life: Burgers, vegetable gardening and an eclipse. Fortunately we didn't have one in the UK no need for an exotic hat here. Thanks, great video.

I love gardening Pete. I enjoyed hearing about your grandfather and his garden. My grandmother was the only person I knew that had a garden while I was gtowing up. It was a small flower garden, but I have some great memories of her in it,. I didnt start gardening till my 50's when my wife volunteered me to start "our" garden. Turned out I loved it, now she hates how much time I spend doing it. Looking forward to a few gardening video's from you., even if its just showing what growing.
