This studio is amazing. Encountered a game breaking bug in DOS:EE. No one encountered it before. Npc somehow joined our party but no way to control them or remove them. By the time we realized it wouldn't fix itself we were 15 hours in.
In frustration finally sent email to Larian on a Friday evening not expecting a response till Monday. Support team replied in 30 mins. Couldn't fix it but they used dev console and "killed" Bellagrette the NPC. Proceeded to do this 7 more times till we finished my first play through. This game is 7 years old and they support it like its brand new.
This company loves thier games. And it shows and I will continue to support them as long as they show this much love to players.

As of July 19, 2023, 15 days before the release of Baldur's Gate 3, I believe this will be the game Swen was talking about. Anyway, one thing is certain since the first game I played from them Divine Divinity : they put their passion into all the games they make. And I hope that in addition to the fruit of their labor, they can also enjoy peace and happiness in their respective lives.

Hello and welcome to the beginning of Season 2 of Gameumentary! If you hadn't heard, we've signed a deal with Enthusiast Gaming to produce documentaries for the next two years, and this project is the first from that deal.
We put a lot of work into making this documentary our best yet. We tuned up our storytelling, added in a completely original soundtrack and more! We really hope you enjoy it! If you'd like to support us, we do have a Patreon campaign that acts a bit like a tip jar.
Oh, and we're not done with Larian after this documentary. We have tons of content left to use and will be releasing a follow-up video later this year that delves into more of the game design aspects of Original Sin and Original Sin 2. Not to mention extended interviews and other stuff as well!
We're working on lining up quite a few exciting projects for next year. If you have suggestions of your own we'd love to hear them!

Came across this documentary after getting into Baldurs Gate 3 Early access and wanting to know more about their journey. Im just getting started on my game dev journey...but the more I learn about Larian the more I want to model my own business practices after them. Obviously they took the hard road more often than not and almost folded because of it...multiple times...yes I highly admire that they stuck to their principles and morals throughout their journey. Ive studied alot of game devs and Larian more or less on their own made exactly the right decisions time and time and time and again. Its truly impressive how they were able to know when to be work for hire and when to stick to IP's that they are passionate about making...and that still shines through to this day. Swen and his crew are absolutely the pinnacle of how to handle the worst that a game dev company can face and still come out on top. Kudos to you Larian! you are one of the few companies that is doing it RIGHT
Edit: Especially wholesome to hear Swen at the end saying how he would like to make an amazing game that absolutely knocks things out of the park after Divinity 2...and here we are...2023 you got your wish Swen! Congrats!

Even happier I had bought both Original Sin games at full price after this doc, these guys deserved the money. Really wish you guys were more popular though, the trash games I see people throwing money to boggles my mind. Jim Sterling did a good video on the Big AAA studios treating people like shit. They have all the money in the world and still force people to work on these games that are rushed and pushed out early by the publisher. Makes you feel a little more for the indie devs, who wont put out a rushed unpolished game like Larian. With pennies in their pocket compared to an EA, Konami or Ubisoft. They don't stick their games with a bunch of nonsense microtransactions. They don't put out a 100 DLC packages at 5 or 10 bucks each. I really admire this company, keep doing what your doing Larian, and I'll keep buying :)

I agree with you (I have even bought the game thrice, for PS4, Switch, and Steam). But I don not agree with "the trash games I see people throwing money" part because that's more subjective, and depends more of what you like or not.
Even if for a majority of people a game is not that "good", if that individual person enjoys it, then it's not really throwing money at at trash game. Not everyone likes the same things. Don't be so self centered.

Bloody good game. Only just started playing it and coming from a faster pace diablo background. I actually enjoy divinity original sin a lot. A difficult game. But a fun game. I really enjoy it. Props.

What wonderful documentation. Fantastic insights and honest reasons why decisions were made the way they were made. My full respect to all "Larians" who have remained loyal to the company even in difficult times. My shelf is full of your games and now, i know the reason why. Looking forword for your upcoming games.

I bought Divine Divinity way back in the day and loved it. Afterwards, I bought every divinity game by Larian. In the very first game, there was a dialogue sequence in one of the graveyards about the nature of truth. I initially discounted it as a bunch of meta physical nonsense, but it stuck in my head and I kept on thinking about it. I didn't know it at the time, but that would be the seed which caused me to pursue a minor in philosophy.

Fantastic documentary! As an old time rpg gamer, I have to say that the joy of playing Divinity Original Sin reminds me of the wonder of my youth playing the first D&D Gold Box Game "Pool of Radiance" - which at the time was a marvel to behold. This company is doing fantastic work and producing games of such high quality. You can really see that Original Sin was a labor of love.

Wow, that was a trip down memory lane. I remember being really hyped for LMK, and the disapointment when it didn't released. I also noticed when playing Divine Divinity, that the elves spoke Isdira, the elven Language of Das Schwarze Auge, and thought that this was really odd. I guess now I know why XD

It is weird i see these european games companies that years ago I did not really give the time of day Like Divine divinity i had actually bought the physical release and i thought it was a good game, And then with Cd projekt and the Witcher 1 which was another good game.....but had no idea that eventually both those developers when given chance to shine really create some of the best games ever. Now Piranha Bytes its your turn to shine

Piranha Bytes did shine but not lately.

Elex is albeit a bit buggy a great game! It's been a long time since I was so interested in the lore of a game. And I don't like post-apocalyotic normally. And jumping off massive cliff with your jetpack, filled world. Annoying zerks though xD

I think it's because these EU companies weren't swept up in the whole consolization trend that affected US based companies (Bethesda, Bioware, etc). I mean obviously Witcher and Divinity were released on consoles too, but the design sensibilities never were compromised in the "make it dumber and streamlined" way that US RPGs were. These sensibilities were conserved game to game for both Larian and CDPR, and in this generation that paid off because the trend swung back to more complex, less hand-holdy, unapologetic-ally difficult games

Ty for that documentary; nice recap of Larians history and very good contributions by Sven and other members
Both Divinity Original Sin games have a special place in my heart and my gaming world. I have a total of 1445 hours in both games and gotten all achievments in the first one. And I am actually proud of that. Atm I am doing my 2nd honour mode run in D:OS 2 and a few days ago I finished my first Tact. run in the Definite Edition of D:OS 2.
I do not know how exactly Larian did this. But their great games got me hooked, totally and utterly hooked. For almost 5 years now I have spent more time with their games than with any others except Chess.
Please continue making such great games, Larian! I cannot wait for your next one. No matter what it is, I am sure I am going to buy it and I will tell all my friends to buy it, too. :-)
Greetings from Germany and a big ty

Very cool documentary guys ! I played that Divinity game where you could turn into a dragon, actually liked it. This was the only game where you would lose at the end, only to be able to succeed in the following DLC. Divinity OS 1 & 2 are in my opinion, the best tabletop style games since Baldur's Gate. The multiplayer aspect of them is just done perfectly.

And then you 'rickrolled' all the award shows with BG3 .... Being from BE, I'm so proud of these guys. Honestly, the game is simply amazing. Having been a BG1/2-player, loving a good story (never enjoyed an FPS - but each to their own - respect), this was a wet dream come true. They usually don't 😛
Putting it out right now, as a 63-year old coot who lived his life as a BA/FA in boring ICT Finance, Government, whatever. I'm officially putting my 'job application' here for within a few years when my pension is there. Don't pay me Larian, just let me be part of it 😀

I feel like I didn't give enough in the last kickstarter if compared to how much fun I had in Divinity Original Sin 2. If ever they do one again, I''ll make sure to put 10 times what I gave because this studio deserves it million times over.
