Glass bottle for radiant paraffin heater. Fill it up, turn up over and fit it into the heater, fuel then runs out under vacuum release to feed the heater wick.
Hi Adam, I think you will find it was used for a paraffin heater and a cooking stove my grandmother had one, I also like your trip to the market most interesting and very enjoyable, Take care of yourself and stay safe.🛠️🛠️🛠️⭐️👍
I used to go to Swaffham market every saturday as a kid from early 60s to early 70s I've some great memories. Unfortunately the family moved away across the boarder into cambs life got in the way and haven't been back. 63 now and it was great to watch your video.
That bottle belongs to a radiant paraffin heater, something like a "Fyrside" "Aladdin" "Valor" "or "Sankey" but they're all much of a muchness. Some heaters use a metal reservoir, like my own Sankey, and others use a glass bottle. The valve in the lid is for the drip feed system to feed the wick inside the shell burner. In use, the bottle stands upside down so that the valve is at the bottom. A lot people had nasty accidents with the glass reservoir types, by trying to be clever and swapping the bottles with the burner still alight, coming into contact with hot parts in the heater, and dropping the bottle, causing it to smash and spill paraffin all over the place. The heaters weren't inherently dangerous, just clueless and careless users. The heat from the fire was very good, and much like sitting in front of a real fire - being a radiant heater, you could feel the warmth across the room. I have a Sankey radiant heater, waiting to be restored. Nice find, and quite common for owners to keep one or two spare bottles of paraffin for a quick change over when the fire went out - That was the downfall of these heaters. Likely to date from between 1930 and 1970 - They were in production in one form or another for a long time - that's how good they were. All you need now is to find a heater to use it in! 🙋🔥
That Triumph motorcycle jacket was worth a few bob in decent condition. I live in South Wales now but I used to live near Kings Lynn and would go to the weekly market at Swaffham. You have a lot of knowledge of a lot of stuff - I lurve et.
Adam. As a lot of people have commented they where used for paraffin heaters and ovens. I can remember filling them as a kid either esso blue or pink parrafin. So there you have it😀
I used to stink of coal and paraffin when i used to go to school in the early 70s. When I'd get home,my job was to clean out the coal fire grate and prepare the kindling for the evening fire. My sister's job was to peel the spuds and prepare the table for the evening meal before Mum arrived home from her work as a Docker .
Boom boom boom boom esso blue, yep paraffin bottle, fill it up, flip it over and the needle gets pushed in for a drip feed when in position. brings back memories.
Totally off topic but can you still get "Swaffham Sizzler's" if I remember the butchers was just near the auction. Must be close on to 30 years since I've had some.
Looks identical to the one in my yard! British made and in common use until the eighties, when plastic rubbish became the norm. It's about as east German as a Chevy Tacoma!
@@jasperedwards2713 And you think all dustbins were exactly the same? That just happens to be identical to the one I have in the yard. No longer used as a dustbin, but I still keep it as familiar item from my past.
i wont argue with you i cant understand why someone would bring a dustbin from germany but i i liove in pub 1978 to 1984 and they were corugated design later they use them as insinerator@@whitesapphire5865

Its a kerosene heater fuel bottle. It sits upside down in the heater and the needle is pressed to allow kerosene to flow into the bowl.
You're right Adam, you don't look at the mantlepiece when you're stoking the fire
I've 2 of these, slightly different shape and the paraffin stove / oven they went with. Must be nearly 100 years old.😊
