Actually Fish and Chips is not a British tradition food and it’s got nothing to do with Britain at all. Fish and Chips was invented in 15th century in Portugal and the first person who brought up Fish and Chips in UK was a Jewish cook. It was in 1860s. Can name any famous British dish and it’s got nothing to with Britain. Everything has been brought from overseas.

i went there years ago and had a big peice of halibut and chips with the trimmings, it was spot on. the first chippy was called malins which opened in 1860 but it closed in the 70s
NEW EVIDENCE has confirmed what many suspected - Mossley is home to the country's oldest fish AND chip shop. Joseph Malin opened his fried fish shop in 1860, in Bow, London - but he only sold fried fish. Oldham's Tommyfield Market claims to being the first place in England to sell fried chips - this was also
Correct I lived near Mossley. It was started by John Lees around 1860 but contested by a shop in London opened around the same time. .. I also had a chippy in the lakes for 8 years.. I had the information you gave us on my business website. The mossley chip shop is sadly a chinese take away or it was 10 years ago when i was last visited. Tommyfield Market is almost gone.. Most stalls demolished for a car park but I remember buying chips from a wooden and brick stall there when i was a kid.
Interesting to learn that tartare sauce isn't common up norf, also I like how you were eager to judge whether the gravy was up to standard as we do also enjoy gravy down south, although I guess its less ubiquitious outside of a sunday roast.
I’ve never come across curry or peas with fish and chips here in Oz. But …. It wouldn’t be fish ‘n’ chips for me without lemon and tomato sauce. Love your vids Danny ♥️♥️
Danny says down London you have to have a saveloy, reminds me of when I went to Wales and asked for Cod Roe. The fella in the fish and chip shop said, What's cod roe". Maybe a London thing?
I'm northern and lived in London in '80s when no chippies had curry sauce. The best authentic Chinese chippy curry sauce is Goldfish, you can now get it in Tesco. I do remember the saveloys which were basically bright red hot dogs. The modern version seems to have removed the food dyes. Never heard of cod roe in a chippy, but jars of pickled cockles or mussels (even eggs) are a thing up North. I only ever witnessed my uncle buying them back in 1990.
@@Drew-Dastardly sadly cockles and pickled eggs and also pickled onions are on the decline in northern chippies shame i love me a pickled egg, remember when i first went to the south west and went in a chippy and it didn't have curry or gravy, that was over 30 yrs ago and still not over it.
If you had 2fish and shared the chips ,which is not uncommon practice ,and dispensed with the extras ,which you didn't go for in the first place ,two of you could eat well for 15 quid
I live aboard now And I miss the great British fish and chips Food that’s never gone wrong I’ve found a small restaurant run by the Brits And they made us fantastic fish and chips I am so happy again Comfort food at its best
I'm surprised they had gravy. Most of the chippy's I've been to in London didn't do gravy. They didn't fry in beef drippings either. Did you quit drinking D&B with your fish and chips Danny?
As a northerner, it's good to see you get around the UK, makes it more interesting. However, London is a bit of a different beast, its so multicultural now, it's not very English, which is I guess natural evolution. In 1000's of years from now London could have many races from different planets eating fish & chips. I just wish prices could be affordable for most, as the poor are sadly getting poorer.
@Chris22967 nothing unfortunate about that just imagine how dead the already bland British food would be without multiculturalism maybe stick to your haggis and battered Mars bars ay.
I live in a suburb of Los Angeles, the west end of the San Fernando Valley (think Boogie Nights) and across the street from where I worked was an English pub where I became a regular and met some very nice people from the UK and also from many other place around the world. I love fish 'n chips and The Pickwick has the best. Gravy on the fish or that hot dog looking thing, that's new to me.
It's never the same as a proper chippy. You can get fish and chips in every food serving pub in England and they just aren't the same as a proper chippy.

@@figgerhead , No they want to keep the recipe Genuine , they still fry in that oil for 152 years
Danny the next time your in London & want Fish & chips please take yourself along to Masters fish & chips on Waterloo road near the Old Vic Theatre .The nearest you will get to proper northern fish & chips anywhere in London . Absolutely wonderful . From a person who lived on Graveleys for years. By the way you let us all down ,the mushy peas from the place you went too are tinned muck ..😂
Mushy peas are a good indicator of quality. That said, some places do decent fish & chips but just cba doing the sides properly.
Thanks. I live in London so I will try this soon. I wonder how it compares with my favourite. The Fryers Delight in Theobalds Road.
As an American, I understood 70% of what was said, 90% of what was eaten and I'm glad to see this in my queue Subscribed. Oddly entertaining. Cheers from New Jersey.
We need more people like you in the Police forces. You have a skill to walk into any situation and people remember you for you firm respect to other's.Sending blessings
He’s a good man, he’s the man every police force lacks nowadays.
Next time you review a chippy and you get mushy peas get them to put some vinegar on the peas. Game changer!
Love vinegar on my mushy peas and like it Wehrmacht I have mince and chips put it on the gravy…..yummy🎉
Wouldn’t have my mushy peas any other way 👏🏻🔥
If you meed to tell the chippy that its not worth eating at
💯
Put a little vinegar on it pet
It'll be tough to make it to south London from Indiana, US.......but if I get the chance, I'll certainly try it. All looks fantastic, and the sausage make me want to hop a flight straightaway.
Love this British accent- and fish and chips.Very nice.Missing London...
Go Danny❤❤❤ in Scotland we call it a fish supper 😂🎉❤
Same here in Ireland, can’t beat a fish supper on a Friday…
To be fair, Scotland and Ireland are irrelevant
Isn’t it called Fush n’ chups then up north then? 😮
In Australia we have the saveloy battered. We call it a "Battered Sav" and if it is not Battered its a Frankfurt. Those chips are amazing.
meh......... no-one cares.
@momus231 Your rudeness is showing and I don't see the point of you commenting if you don't care
@@aussiejohn5835battered savaloys are common in most London chippies
@@jep1912 - Oh troll off dude! 😲

The fish looked great ,cooked very well great color. The sides looked really delicious, the texture was, and the sausage had a good sap to it. The texture of the fish is good.overall everything looks delicious.
Never seen anyone bring their own table and chair. lol No reservations needed. 👍
This is the first time watching you. Liked it and subscribed. Thank you for your video. They have fish & chips not far from me but it's nothing like there where you are.
Yep that Fish n Chips looks pretty good.. 🐟 🍟 🐟 🍟
Curry Sauce all the way too. 👍
mushy peas tartare sauce
Good to see more of your eating out vlogs in London ( my area ) that Fish & Chip shop looked a good one you should try the Pie & Mash shop thats quite tasty too Danny 👍
There's a vid of Danny and t'cameraman at M. Manze on Tower Bridge Road for pie, mash and the other stuff.
@@grahamross6397 Cheers Graham will look that one up 👍
Looks amazing!
Very good. I actually went to Rock and Sole when in London, very tasty (only for the walking tour guide, I never would have found it). Another very good spot, sadly now closed in Soho square is Hobsons
Did you have to pay £12.50 ULEZ to take that suitcase into london 😂😂
no
I am a Londoner and there are a good few places still left, that sell fish from Billingsgate Fish Market , if you know where to go. Even all us rich London folks cant afford to pay £22. Most reviews that I see are detailed on sites for Tourists . Anyway the best that I have had is Yorkshire and Scotland. Ps Costs in London , Rent, business tax dont help.
Can you name a few London F&C outlets you would personally recommend?
I will be coming to London soon.
@@adamkane7513 Masters superfish ,Waterloo road near the old vic theatre ..10 min walk from Waterloo station. Nearest you will get to proper northern fish & chips. By far the best in London by a country mile . I was brought up on Graveleys in Elland road, Leeds ..They are almost equal to theirs.
This is a great place for fish and chips. I go here often and enjoy the tasty fish and chips. But, choose your time well as it gets very busy and sometimes there is a queue. I tend to eat in and enjoy the hustle and bustle.
Loveing the camping table.
Mmmm lovely! 😋
It’s spenny tbf but does look alright, especially with all that sauce
I've been coming to the Rock & Sole Plaice for over 30 years and it just gets better and better. love this guy's review! I tell you, it's a good job I wore me stretchy pants, 'cause I'm going back for seconds. London might not have the same ring as our beloved North, but they know their way 'round a fish supper, I'll give 'em that. Right, I'm off to find a brew now to wash it all down. Ta-ra, you lot!
Stretchy😂
Used to have these chips on my lunch break when I worked in Covent Garden. Were banging!
i went there years ago and had a big peice of halibut and chips with the trimmings, it was spot on. the first chippy was called malins which opened in 1860 but it closed in the 70s
Any relation to Danny?
@@littlebigman6957 ??
@@mitchellbooth8435 it was a joke . Danny's last name is malin.
NEW EVIDENCE has confirmed what many suspected - Mossley is home to the country's oldest fish AND chip shop. Joseph Malin opened his fried fish shop in 1860, in Bow, London - but he only sold fried fish. Oldham's Tommyfield Market claims to being the first place in England to sell fried chips - this was also
Maybe that was Dannys great great grandad?
Correct I lived near Mossley. It was started by John Lees around 1860 but contested by a shop in London opened around the same time. .. I also had a chippy in the lakes for 8 years.. I had the information you gave us on my business website. The mossley chip shop is sadly a chinese take away or it was 10 years ago when i was last visited. Tommyfield Market is almost gone.. Most stalls demolished for a car park but I remember buying chips from a wooden and brick stall there when i was a kid.
Don’t they have saveloys up north 🤔
Heathens 😂
@@riddimchef1No saveloys anywhere in the north. Nearest available is a butchers 100 miles south of here in the midlands
😮 I wonder why 🤔😢
All of that looked super tasty! Cheers!
I loved my year in oz but hard find a good chipper 🇮🇪
tomato sauce in put on top of the fish and chips? is that an Australian thing?
Tha doesn't know what tha missin
We will stick t our gravy curry and peas thanks, you keep your ketchup pal 😂
@@jiggitydazzle84 - Yes, that's quite common in Australia.
Danny says down London you have to have a saveloy, reminds me of when I went to Wales and asked for Cod Roe. The fella in the fish and chip shop said, What's cod roe". Maybe a London thing?
I know what it is but i've never seen it in a Chippy (not that i would be looking for it)
My local chippy does it I'm in Suffolk.
@@Drew-Dastardly Goldfish is a lovely curry sauce, just don't get any on your clothes! 🙂
I’ve eaten there several times. On Endell Street just outside Covent Garden. Lovely place, ate downstairs. They cook in peanut oil.
Such an awesome face! I'd like to draw it someday!
Making the camera man earn his wage, carrying your chair 😂
Danny looking after cameraman's gearbag though. Even Danny thought it would get half inched.
Don't know what is but Danny never quite himself down south
Absolutely love u and the videos ❤🇩🇰
We go there for fish and chips whenever we visit London. Love it!
Who in this world, has gravy with fish.
If you had 2fish and shared the chips ,which is not uncommon practice ,and dispensed with the extras ,which you didn't go for in the first place ,two of you could eat well for 15 quid
Oi, Oi, Savaloy.
I live aboard now And I miss the great British fish and chips Food that’s never gone wrong I’ve found a small restaurant run by the Brits And they made us fantastic fish and chips I am so happy again Comfort food at its best
Great review. I will pay a visit. 😊
I'm surprised they had gravy. Most of the chippy's I've been to in London didn't do gravy. They didn't fry in beef drippings either. Did you quit drinking D&B with your fish and chips Danny?
That saveloy thingy looks like it belongs to a well hung apache…
i've watched 3 minutes and i already love this guy
Wow looks really good!
Give me a shout out mate should come up sunderland and try a few takeaways
They're called Steak fries in the U.S. They are usually double-fried so they are extra crispy!
Called chunky chips here in UK lol
Steak fries does sound better, But would be confusing because we call thin cut chips - fries.
authenticity shall never grow old, yum if only cooked in the right dripping.
They did look nice. Good job Danny lad!
Unfortunately mate it's not just London that's not very English, its the whole of the UK.
@@Chris22967why would the rest of the uk be English? 😂😂
@@ultmtuzer6006 God I'm a divvy, I'm Scottish as well 🤣but I know what I meant.🤣
@Chris22967 nothing unfortunate about that just imagine how dead the already bland British food would be without multiculturalism maybe stick to your haggis and battered Mars bars ay.
@@danielcunningham6727 so edgy
It looks alot better than that rip off tourist trap Poppies.
Love your videos !!
So, did you just barge in there and skipped the queue in front that French guy in his trench coat? He looked well pissed at you 😂
I was wondering why he seemed so hostile lol I didn’t even notice he was waiting in the cue, thought he just had issues
He definitely skipped the q.. Rude
maybe but they go in before and tell them if its ok to film and the camera man probably acted as the queue for Danny whilst he walked in
Came here for this comment!!!
He were giving evils at Danny lol
