- Paddy Reilly singing Cliffs of Dooneen. in concert.
You may travel far far from your own native home
Faraway o'er the mountain, faraway o'er the foam
But of all the fine places that I've ever seen
Sure there's none can compare
with the cliffs of Dooneen
Take a view o'er the mountains
Fine sights you'll see there
You'll see the high rocky mountains
On the west coast of Clare
Oh the town of Kilrush and Kilkee can be seen
From the high rocky slopes
Of the cliffs of Dooneen
It's a nice place to be on a fine summer's day
Watching all the wild flowers that ne'er do decay
The hare and lofty pheasant are quite plain to be seen
Building homes for their young
Round the cliffs of Dooneen
Fare thee well to Dooneen
Fare thee well for a while
And to all the fine people I'm leaving behind
To the streams and the meadows
Where late I have been
And the high rocky slopes
Round the cliffs of Dooneen
Oh that is a beautiful song of the irish country side, listening to it you could see and feel yourself there well done Paddy Reilly
My dad s kind of music and what a geezer !!!
About the time I found this song, I had just had a daughter and bought a house for my new family. This line broke me down in tears: "oh the hare and lofty pheasant, are quite plain to be seen. Building homes for their young, round the cliffs of Dooneen". I love it.
Hope u got what u needed for your family a beautiful part of Ireland
I wish more showed respect to greatness
Thoughts of my youth and all those towns, Kilrush, Kilkee, Doonbeg, Quilty, Miltown Malbay, Lahinch, Doolin, Lisdoonvarna etc ..on the west coast of Clare. Great old days.....football, singing, music and dancing ...Friends that are long gone but still edged in my memory as forever young..
It's a pity now those beautiful places paddy sings about are going to be ruined by those so asylum seekers
Thanks for sharing. What a great comment. Music unites people across thousands of miles!
Yes . I come from Miltown.
I love these old songs. After all these years i still love these beautiful old songs. I have been out of Ireland for over fifty years.
They Remain in your soul for ever.
Absolutely love Paddy Reilly
I have this more then once when I hear these ballads. The Italians sing the most beautiful loves and the Irish sing the most beautiful ballads. Two great cultures of the world.
Indeed, the two greatest.
70 years old and still going strong. You got it Paddy. Cheers!
he has a beautiful voice so easy to listen to
The first time I heard this song was at a Fleadh Cheoil in Kilrush sung by a great flute player from Kilmihil, West Clare, by the name of Paddy Breen. Paddy Reilly does a great job on it.
a legend
Paddy Reilly What a great singer and love this song one of many !
Absolute gold.
Wolf tones
One of the finest irish songs of all time , if you were brought up in ireland & leave ireland at a young age , because of tough times not because of want , and are in a foreign country , this song will kick your ass , love this song and there are lots of tears in my eyes while writing this , but i love my country of ireland , and i wish i never had to leave but i will come back one day ,
How are things MrSlainte1? Hope you're well!
Nobody delivers traditional Irish ballads like Paddy Reilly!
christy moore is up there aswell
+david lynch They are both very good, you could not say one is better than the other.
He is wonderful could listen to him all day intact I have played a cd so much it keeps sticking
have you forgotten Luke Kelly.... a man even Paddy, "bows his knee" too?
@@johnhendry6636 Lukes the man, but some songs suit others. I like Paddy on this, and I like the Tones or dubs on others, they’re all the dogs anyways!
God bless Paddy makes me think of my home back in Australia
What a beautiful song!
