Saw a guy play this and hit the drop on the exact stroke of midnight 6 years ago at the Crooked Billet in Hackney. Perfection.
I was at a sophisticated crowd Tavern. The DJ was playing a bit of House , R&b, funk and Disco. But when he dropped this edit, I knew we were from the same tribe.😎

Crowd sounds are what makes this one special. It's a great edit either way, but that's what makes it go tf off in the club

we played this at every single one of our 14 or so parties from 2017 - 2020 and it never failed to work people into a frenzy. Prince is a genius for making this tune in the first place and Dimitri is a G for getting this edit just right
It's a clever edit, he mixed a live recording with the original. Seamlessly.
Crowd sounds made a lot of tunes on mixtapes sound better to me back in the day. Everything is a studio mix now, which is cool for sound quality, but I miss hearing the crowd react. The way he's used them in this is masterful. They turned an 8 out of 10 track to a 10 out of 10. Goosebumps' moment listening to this.
