Boardwalk Empire - Richard Harrow Killing Spree

- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- Richard Harrow explores the concept of first-person shooters at the Artemis club as he seeks to rescue Tommy with what appears to be an unlimited arsenal. Season 3, episode 12.
Owned by HBO.
A man with half a face and sniper rifle is a terrifying sight
*_yes... he is the Painkiller_*
Two face
Have you ever Two-face or Jonah Hex?, Very similar
And a shot gun, don't forget the shotty
Masks were common place in those days . All the disfigured men from the war .
The clumsy shootings of gangland are nothing compared to the fire and horror that Richard experienced during his service. It's like sending a wolf against a bunch of overconfident cocker spaniels.
With insult to the cocker spaniel when you compare them to those gangsters
I don't think this could've been said any better
I’d say it’s more like sending a battle hardened German shepherd against a bunch of wolves to rescue his lamb (Tommy)
@@tgs12495 Yeah, that's not a fight the German shepherd is winning. Horrible comparison
@@tgs12495 AWFUL comparison, you're underestimating how big a wolf actually is, they're NOT small...
If I recall his death scene correctly, as his life passes before his eye(s) we see him before the war as an extraordinarily handsome fellow loving life. That was heartbreaking.
They show it one of his first episodes he wasw very handsome and happy, but in the end when he passes he thinks of that and his family and smiles, which is bittersweet
He imagines meeting up with his sister and the boy out in the country side. That’s when I knew he died, no way he just magically made it there like in his dream

Great spoiler asshole
The one character that deserved to survive.
The fact Gyp always crowing about being a tough guy and having him run in fear from Harrow still brings a smile to my face
Gyp also used an innocent waitress as a shield during his assassination attempt. He was a coward.
Yeah, he was a typical bully, his entire character arc in the show is punctuated with him trying to bully regular citizens, like the old fella walking his dog, the waitress, the small town sheriffs. Those types are tenapenny in life.
In all fairness, I can't imagine many people not running in fear from Harrow, when he's got some killin' that needs a-doin'.
@@johntaylorson7769 You can about here the terminator music in the background as he walks thru killing
😂😂 YEEEESSSHHHH!
"Take you for a soldier. What are you fighting for now?"
Once Richard found out the answer to that question again, he showed just how effective a soldier he was.
Richard is not a gangster. He is a soldier. And he was a loyal friend.
Which makes him more dangerous
And tender and loving too, in his own way
1k like 😊
But true, a loyal man, friend, and soldier is very dangerous.
"Tommy, close your eyes. I'm gonna do what's called a pro gamer move."
Why wouldn’t he shoot him when he had the bead on his face? At the start?
@@milesaway3422 I always wondered that myself.
Eric Trenbeath is there a reflex that he’s worried about? That the guy would shoot? It’s Richie harrow, at like 12 feet with a high powered rifle he’d put it through the guys eye or front of his skull or even shoot his hand off. The guy was clearly hesitant.
He didn’t shoot because he didn’t want Tommy to see that. As matter of fact he tells Tommy to close his eyes before taking the shot
i cant stop laughing at this comment
Richard Harrow singlehandedly does what no-one else could do all season long.
Well the Masseria guys left just before this scene, would have been harder to fight like 30 guys instead of 10.
fact that he could just easily take out 10 guys all on his own is mad impressive though you have to admit@@isaacbruner65
@@isaacbruner65what makes him so scary was that he went expecting all of them to be there.
Full-Weasel!
A bolt action rifle, 2 pistols and a sawed off shotgun. For the time period, that man walked in with an arsenal.
That's an arsenal now
People carry less guns now
The last pistol used is (very likely) a FN 1910 or similar, in .32 auto or .380 auto, too big to be a .25 auto.
@@clandestinetactical shotgun is a Browning A5 with the barrel chopped, which makes sense since he was shooting it one handed no pump needed, but they added the pump sound effect anyways lol

A soldier who never stopped fighting....
John Wick of the roaring 20's lol
he pretty much stopped fighting after shooting Chalky's daughter.
Such a tragic figure
I just saw that for the first time and thought "Maybe John Wick wasn't so tough, he used automatics"
Once a soldier always a soldier!!
The contrast of the panicking gangsters with richard's cool professionalism is absolutely chilling.
yeah and who lets a dude put their gun down with there finger on the trigger and barrel pointing right at him 😂 never seen this movie but saw that happening a mile away. He could’ve just shot him standing too. there is no way he could’ve reacted fast enough to kill the kid after being shot that’s why people usually use their hostages as body shields and the dude on the stairs fumbled so hard lol
No machine gun either. He's reloading constantly. He was like a machine though. He even made Nucky nervous, who knew how dangerous Richard was.
Can I just ask, did we watch the same video? Guy didn't reload any of the four guns he used.
@@CharlesMCFC he goes to reload the first revolver he was using (the Webley) but had to knock out the guy who was behind him I think he dropped it there because the next revolver he uses is the smith n wesson he pulls out of his coat but yeah besides that he didn’t attempt to reload

One veteran kills a bunch of drunken men. This was a good scene. Probably the best in Boardwalk Empire.
This was the best in my opinion.
Other than Eli beating agent knox to death..
Although I love this scene just because it shows how bad ass Richard is, his death was probably the best scene in the show for me. I usually never tear up in a show, I just get sad, but I teared up for his death
The death of Jimmy Darmody is the best scene. Either that or the scene where him and Al Capone take over Greektown.
Every seane in season 5
i legit fucking cried when he died. easily one of the best supporting roles ive ever seen. he deserves every award
Same
lol i stopped watching after his death, couldn’t get myself to watch anymore of nucky bs
Thinking about all the time he spent with little Tommy. Planning
I love how Richard planned to kill 40 men, they were called from the brothel, but Richard in his heart believed he could kill 40 men. That's fucking insane.
That’s a great point.. and he probably could ffs
If he had a Tommy gun he can kill 50
Yeah, he was planning to get Maseria's men too if they were there. Totally insane and at the same time true bravery considering what he wanted.
He probably could, most hired goons can’t aim or don’t actually have the heart to kill that many men in 5 minutes
Great observation. Harrow showed up ready to die.
One of the things l like about the last scene is that when he says "close your eyes" the boy does it immediately without hesitation. He had utter faith in Harrow, even with a gun to his little head.
IDK why but Richard telling the kid to close his eyes before shooting the guy made me respect him even more! There's just some thing kids shouldn't see, no matter what lifestyle they're born or raised into.
I feel like it also confuses the guy holding the gun and causes him to visually let his guard down a bit and allow Richard the upper hand.
If Richard didn’t die he would’ve raised Tommy properly and Tommy wouldn’t have sought out revenge to Nucky
I think there is just as easily a ballistics reason for this. In reality, standing in front of a rifle at such close range, would create a blast of particles that could easily take an eye out. I dont think the kid was going to witness the shot behind him. I dunno, that could be wrong, but I'd like to know why it was scripted.
Don't think that's the message Richard was giving. He was telling the man with the gun you're in control now, don't let the child see you shoot me, giving him a false sense of confidence before he shot him. He wouldn't have wanted the child to see what he was about to do as well!
Kids need to grow up.
Harrow was the original John Wick, a man of focus, commitment and shear will.
He was coming out of there alive with the boy, or he was coming out in a box.
John wick sucks tho
Tristanity nah
On youtube who gives a fuck? People that aren't mentally retarded.
Your spelling related moral fagging amuses me.
Mmm Tastes like salt to me... I bet you're one of those people that when you go out to a restaurant you feel compelled to order Five large fries and two large waters just so you'll have a use for all that salt.
The love & the responsibility that Harrow felt for
Jimmy Darmody's kid was quite profound.
It was just an extension of the loyalty that he still held for Jimmy.
Jack Huston brought so much dimension and emotional depth to Harrow.
Too bad he never got more recognition for that role.
He is an actor of astonishing gifts.
That and the goodness in his heart that forced him to defend the weak. None of the men he killed throughout the course of the series were innocent, only Maybelle which why his character dies afterward. Richard has survived far more gruesome injuries in the war; he purposely sat down and removed his mask to bleed out for killing an innocent girl.
@@arsxxmoriendi One of his first scenes is him killing a kid in cold blood as he cowered in fear. Also he even openly told Jimmy that he was willing and ready to kill the family of the men they were looking for that were in hiding.
And then Tommy grows up and kills Nucky.
Takes a while for people to really notice a good performance. We hit the 10 year mark and to be honest I think he is getting that recognition.
He's immortalized and appreciated.
Your last line puzzles me.
You can see Tommy run into his arms through the foggy, blood-splattered glass. Pure genius cinematography
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate that Mr. Harrow did all this with one eye and shit for depth perception ?
Yeah he literally has a blind side.
I had an uncle who lost an eye back in the 50s and he used to always say “I can see more out of one eye than most people can see out of two”. RIP uncle Mike
When you live for so long like this you relynon it so much it becomes nothing like its 2 eyes in one
Actually your brain doesn't need 2 eyes to work out depth, your brain reads shadows and your single eye can even slightly wobble all subconsciously to compensate for not having both your eyes👀 that being said he's still a cracking shot
Instincts and nothing to lose. With nothing to lose a man can do anything. I’m amazed more people who lose everything don’t snap and go ham. Especially in the USA where medicine and care costs money and there’s so many guns.
He was on a great streak, coulda called in an AC-130
Hahaha
with only one eye too!
KD84Afc™ no need to close one eye for the scope
KD84Afc™ that was the point I think, he never had to shut an eye to aim!!! It came natural to him!
MrAhuraMazda187 he could of got a NUKE
I have empathy for Richard as he went through a war that the world had never experienced before. In addition to surviving with a terrible injury that prevented him from integrating back into society and having some normalcy of life there must have been many brave men that could no doubt relate to him.
Yes. Part of what makes Richard’s character so tragic is how he represents a truly lost group in history.
How many young men returned from the war disfigured, infirm, or disabled? How many failed to ever integrate again or find love because of this? No families, no children, no memories of who they were. Just ghosts now, lost to the cruelty of time.
Richard helps us remember the forgotten men whose stories were worth telling.
Countless men came back like this poor soul , even a horrendous law was passed stopping these heroes being seen by the public . They were failed incomprehensibly by all .
This was so well written . Thank you .
Actor Jack Huston brought this character to its heights, from sadistic killing to tender, injured man. Great acting!
He did a terrific turn as the dirty Kansas City cop in Fargo as well
Jack Huston's performance arc spanned the whole spectrum and was utterly believable. The irony for me is that if you described in words what his character would do, you'd probably scoff at it, like, "No way, bro. I wouldn't buy it." But there it is, fortunately enshrined for all to see and marvel at.
Grandson of the great director john houston
Nucky and Chalky and Al did so much planning on how they were going to take Gyp out. Richie accomplished everything they were trying to do by himself in about 10 minutes! Best character in this show by a country mile
But he didn't kill Gyp.
@@kenhernandez8128 he absolutely would have if Gyp didn’t flee like a pussy
I never understood how NOT ONE MOB BOSS tried to recruit HARROW... tommy was the only person who saw how great of an outlaw this man could be.. And made him his right hand
And even though all of these mob bosses saw what he was capable of they never tried to put him on their payroll and he was always passed off to help the women with lesser affairs by most of the men he was around
It I Was a boss.. this guy would've been my best friend
@@WelcomeToThe92503 you mean Jimmy? Tommy's the kid
It goes to show the disconnect between "Tough guys" and military veterans from the 1st WW, Mobsters deluded themselves by thinking that they were more than normal people, protected by webs of politics, connections and information.
But to anyone that has experienced the horrors of war, they know that life is frighteningly easy to take with the right initiative.
A man jumps into a trench, shoots his shotgun six times, turns 3 men to mincemeat and bayonets a 4th one.
Harrow is a solider that never turned “off” when he came back home
Does any soldier?
Richard was one of the most soulful and interesting characters in the entire show. The episode where he goes out to the woods to top himself and the hunter finds him, asks him if he's okay while making it clear that "these woods aren't for that kind of thing, you hear?" That was Richard's moment: the crystal-clear realization that he wasn't useless and broken, that he wasn't done with this world yet, and that killing himself would be a fucking waste. Why? *Because there's work to be done.* Be like Richard boys.
"Be like Richard boys."
Going on a killing spree?
@@eadghe to kill mofos? Why not?
@@eadghe I mean you don't have to go on a killing spree, but you could start by not killing yourself in the woods after coming back from a horrible war. I'm pretty sure that's the point he was driving at.
So was chalkie
Bruh being like Richard Richard's a broken sad soul and the reason he doesn't care is bcs he knows he's either gonna die in a shot out or by suicide does it matter
When this scene started I thought the directors had decided to kill off Harrow. I mean how could 1 man fight off all these guys with guns. But he showed what a badass he really is and a true soldier, not a tough guy picking on the weak with a gun.
Gyp was a Master Intimidater and had some muscle but he didn't stand a chance against Richard Harrow and even Chalky White's gang would have taken him out
@aoark02
I felt the same. There has never been a scene like this in the show. I thought he would get killed infront of Tommy and someone would swoop in or something.

I love how Richard seems to live by a code. Innocents deserve protection, and soldiers live and die by the sword.
He killed so many guys in the trenches that killing was nothing to him when he came home
You realise sharpshooters were commonly employed in the trenches during WWI, their stealth was feared, many men who too casually revealed their height would know...
You realise that it was just a quote by Richard?
Oh, no I didn't, stopped watching several years ago, right before they killed Jimmy, he, along w/ Richard, we're some of my faves, plus he's epic hot, which doesn't hurt. FYI I am a chick, just like metal/industrial, not that there's anything wrong w/ a guy acknowledging another dudes hotness, but hey whatever floats yer boat. .
And the whole thing w/ Margaret 'donating' all Nucky's assets, I was like ffs I hate you, plus that Nelson murderer, ugh they had such a good show, I mean, it's still a good show, but whyyy self-implode some of the characters! Maybe I'll start watching again, either from the start or where I stopped, end of season 2.
lake fire why would it !!!
+Skulls Ain't Dead "Why self-implode some of the characters" the show is about gangsters killing eachother over money, not heroes making the world a better place.
What an interestingly terryfing character he is. The scar, the fake eyes, the 1920's sport shooter attire. Really well done.
Saddest death of the entire series for me. I was rooting so hard for Harrow to get his happy ending, and in a bittersweet way he did in his last moments, but damn if i didn't shed a tear for him. Such a brilliant character.
Such an amazing character , one of the best
THE best character. Hands down. Richard was, is and will always be the best and most interesting character throughout the entire show.
Yes, because glorifying a murdering bastard is the way to improve society.

@2:56 "Put the gun down."
Harrow: "Which one?" Dude is literally redefining the term "strapped".
Lol
ikr I thought for sure he would put down the rifle and then quick draw a pistol to shoot that guy
All Richard wanted was a chance to tell the boy to close his eyes. Wow.
That, ladies and gents, is what ya call "marksmanship." Pick your targets, aim your shots, make each round count. No wasted movement, no wasted shots, total fire discipline.
Richard Harrow was a Prohibition-era John Wick....minus the BJJ and the "Gun Fu," of course. A highly-trained, highly-skilled shooter who could commit himself totally to an objective and execute it with utter precision and total focus.
Easily the most likeable character in this show. Soft hearted and vulnerable for the ladies and feminine crowd, loyal af to the mobster/gang crowd, treated like shit by society to the misunderstood crowd, a cold calculated killer to the assassin crowd, over all beast mode killing machine to the action junkies.
One of his first scenes is murdering a child and offering to kill the innocent family members of a guy they were tracking. I think a lot of people misremember him.
@@Primenumber19 dont see your point?

That is his point.
@@williamblackfyre4866 that him being a gangster for his boss...the loyalty aspect. He's not just randomly killing anyone for a show a force. Hes doing that for an endgame situation.
@@ehold6877 He is volunteering to murder 3 women just to get to their brothers. If he was soft-hearted toward women, this kind of thing wouldn't be HIS idea, he wouldn't WANT to kill them. He would wait until he is ordered or just propose to kill the dentist. And in the scene, Jimmy, a cold blooded killer, looks at Richard like "Tf?". Richard is a murderer, he doesn't have a soft spot for any particular sex or age, he has a soft spot for Tommy, Jimmy's wife, people he knows and likes. But he is a killer and he doesn't discriminate. I think your initial analysis of the guy is right to some extent, with exception to the first claim.
When i saw Richard, all i could think was. FUCK. YES. But seriously, ultimate fucking badass right here.

@@samb8369 I think Richard already had skills before the war and so did his sister.
His time before and after the war and perhaps more side stories from his view point under the same time as Boardwalk. Would be incredible.
That man moved down the hallways like he was sweeping the trenches
Probably my favorite character of the whole series. He played the full range, from a killing machine to a broken man finding the ability (and trust) to be able to love someone again.... and everything in between.
The part when he's in the middle of the room aiming and doing the 180 is so fluid. I like it!

Fenny Famous not when you are trained with it, notice every single shot is a headshot?
Fenny Famous You don’t need to use your sights in order to hit a target up close. Your eyes can naturally tell what you want to hit and where to aim, especially if you’re trained.
What always gets me is that you can see the fear on some of the gangsters faces. They didn't know who they were up against.
They weren't used to the idea of facing someone with no fear of them
Fear and confusion. Even afterwards they didn't know what that was all about. Like at the beach scene after this they're like what was with that guy with the mask and nobody knew.

Richard Harrow is the definition of haunting, after all these years and this character sticks with me. Jack Huston's performance was something else.
I remember talking about this scene with my departed friend, Jimmy the Saint. We both loved this show and anticipated Harrow's revenge, but this exceeded all our expectations. Miss you Ed/Jimmy.
It's such a great scene, reminiscent of some of my favourite samurai movies. Harrow's motivation isn't revenge or blood lust, it's purely getting getting the boy back. Hey sorry about the loss of Jimmy too man, he sounds like a legend also 👍

And IIRC it was that choice that ultimately ended him. (He made all sorts of other errors, but showing he was willing to leave his man behind sealed his fate)
Harrow was the best, and most frightening character in this show. I would love to have him as a friend.
That was awesome in detailing how really loyal, lethal, and cool Richard Harlow was in Boardwalk Empire. My favorite character
I loved his final scene in the episode as well. Did it all for the boy. Brought a tear to my eye.
One of the most original characters ever.
For as vicious as Richard could be he was also as kind and loving. A man torn apart by the circumstances of his world.
"Circumstances" meaning the bumfuck old men who sent him off to fight their war.
I remember when my friend went through Mafia training. They taught him to never use cover, always wait 5 seconds before shooting, never shoot through a door and to never hit the first shot.
This made sure he would be a good movie extra but he didn't make it very long in his first gunfight.
did you just say your friend went through mafia training? dude, what the fuck are you talking about?
badabingnyc I'm making a joke about how stupid the victims in the video are. They only approach from the front, miss all their point blank shots and never try an ambush, even when they know he is coming. Do you get jokes?

Probably one of the best killing sprees I've ever seen, and I haven't even watched this show. That was just fantastic between Harrow's main firing with the rifle and the quick switch to the shotgun for close quarters and handgun of whenever things got hairy. And I love how this scene actually demonstrates the advantage a person with the element of surprise holds, even against a superior enemy/force. I may have to watch this whole series now... that was fucking excellent!
Yes, you absolutely should watch the whole series even thought one of its best moments and build-ups has been spoiled for you.
I know I'm very late to the party, but I just started the last season of this show, and I just feel so unbelievably empty. I saw myself in Richard, his fears, his loneliness, his dreams. Watching this scene when Richard went to save Tommy had me ecstatic and also terrified, that he would die trying. The season 4 finale just gutted me. I cried like a baby when he came home and you saw his full face. Knew he was gone... Still gets me.
By far my favorite character on the show. Throwing a hardened guy whos experienced real combat at a bunch of glorified thugs is one of my favorite tropes in fiction.
That's what makes Peaky Blinders even better. Most of the men saw combat and were also gangsters.
One of the best characters of the series if not the best. The representation of how a man can endure the wounds of war inside and out. Yet still hold on to the memory of love, loyalty and honor.
A human killing machine.Gonna miss him next season.
Dude had the deer hunting build and did better than most school shooters.
They use this as an inspiration for the Punisher in Daredevil season 2. This scene was insane!
Just noticed he keeps his breath calm throughout.
0:46 - some of the cleanest , quickest , accurate shots I’ve ever seen with a bolt action rifle at close range… and Richard only has 1 eye 👏 👌
Watch the clip, he clearly has 2 eyes...
Lookup the word "badass" in the dictionary, and this whole scene pops up.
"Tactical nuke ready for launch."
Starcraft reference?
@@Gnix1996 cod modern warfare 2
He is like a main character in a videogame, all the npcs just come one after each other, nobody can get a shot at him, everybody is so slow...
whenever i heard that first shot and saw harrow marching in i literally said "fuck yeah!"
This is what it's like in a free-to-play game when someone decides to drop like $50 for a bombastic sniper rifle and some perks. No one else stands a chance in heck.
+Ben Ray never a truer thing has been said.
ever play Vigor?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
😩
Quite possibly the best character in the history of tv/cinema. Period.
The best moment on the entire show!! Season 3 was a fuckin masterpiece. My favorite season by far. On a show that didn’t have too many likable characters, Richard Harrow was one of the few characters I loved. A man who’s filled inside with loneliness, turmoil, anger, and sadness. I believe Jake Huston, the actor who played Richard is Angelica Huston and Danny Huston's nephew I believe.
Did anyone else get Taxi Driver vibes while watching this moment? I certainly did. The final scene in Taxi Driver when Travis goes to save Iris has a lot in common with this scene. Scorsese was an executive producer on this show so I can see why he put this scene in this episode. Also, Richard is a lot like Travis. Now I can see why this show is show highly praised and awarded. It may not be as good as The Wire but it’s damn close.
The best thing is that Richard wasn’t even there regarding the situation between Nucky and Gyp, or Masseria. He showed up with his own personal agenda, to get Tommy, and took the opportune moment to attack while Rossetti and his men were concerned with other matters. Just walked in there like a boss, unconcerned about anything else and started assassinating.
The writers have clearly never shot rifles! A scope at 20-30 feet (even a 4x) will give you nothing but a blured vision.
2:24
That whine is haunting. He knew exactly what was coming, and it probably felt like an eternity until it did.
A professional marksman like Richard knows the weight of the rifle and how to aim it in that position. He's clearly aiming as he's lowering the weapon.
In fact, he put the shot in the perfect place: the upward trajectory of the bullet into the brain kills the dude instantly, so no involuntary spasms that would make him accidentally pull the trigger and shoot Tommy.
Or he was waiting for the instant when the guy shifted his gun.
This reminds me of when The van der linde gang are looking for Angelo bronte in rdr2
1:18 Richard one-handing the revolver with the rifle slung on his back gives me RDR vibes
Just watched this again after years and this is by far the best episode and my most favourite bit of boardwalk empire.
Richard was a legend and a real hardcore soldier, can’t believe they killed him off.
My fav character
"7 Minute Drill" but literally.
Amazing scene. The calm and cool he portrayed was incredible. Just awesome
I’ve watched this scene 100 times easily. It’s one of my favorites of all time.
