Here's an animatic I whipped up from one of my favorite songs from the musical, I hope you enjoy it!

I must say: these two look EXACTLY like how I imagine they would be if there were normal boarding school girls. I think Elphaba looks very attractive, especially when she looks so stern and grumpy.

Highschool is its own brand of hypocrisy once in a while

it’s a sign of false allyship from the school because they promote all these positive messages about inclusion yet do nothing about how the actual minority students are treated - i’ve been there (the second school i went to actually fulfilled their promise but the first was exactly like this)

If they wanted them to have a crush on each other, they wouldn't need to change the songs that much if at all because in a lot of the songs like this one and for good, it's kind of obvious.
Honestly, every time I hear this song I think they're singing "loving". I thought for two years that these two girls from the original fell in love with each other.
It's the smallest thing, but I absolutely adore Elphaba adjusting her hat in time to the music.

Growing up is realizing that the feeling they're having isn't "Loathing" it's having a crush, and that the whole song is poking fun at that- and Stephen Schwartz is a real one for that-- also I'm in love with the expressions throughout this, excellent job!!
I just thought it was just meant to be poking fun at love songs in musicals. That they actually do hate each other and the whole song is a joke

@@aussiethecat What do you refer to you in the book to support that theory? I found Glinda absolutely awful in the book. I mean I liked her character, but she was a complete bitch and Elphaba actually was fairly wicked. Not to mention they don't even interact post-school in the book, making it seem like they were just typical college friends who were largely friends because of proximity, but don't mind drifting apart. In the book, Glinda didn't even interact with Fiyero because of his skin color, so her developing a crush on a conventionally unattractive green girl seems completely unrealistic. I don't interpret them as being gay in the musical either (honestly from all the arguments I've seen I think people are just grasping at straws to make a story about friends into a gay story), but if I had to pick I'd say it comes across more that way in the musical than in the book.
It's honestly a crime of Humanity that this is very underrated.

HOLY. SMOKES. I’ve been hoping that one day I could find an animatic that captured the atmosphere of this song, and this is IT. You put so much energy and charm into this - Elphaba wiggling her hat to the beat of the song was adorable. I’ll be following your channel from here on out. Absolutely incredible work here!
Further proof that Wicked should be an animated movie!
Also it would be funny if at the end of the song Glinda walks away from Elphaba and near a fountain lake. Then Elphaba pops up in front of her and says “Boo,” causing Glinda to scream, trip and fall into the fountain lake, with a huge splash engulfing the shot. This transitions to the next scene in Dr. Dillamond’s classroom with a shot of an embarrassed/horrified wet Glinda sitting at her desk who glares at Elphaba from across the classroom.
Genius! The live action one is gold, but an animated one would be great!
Actually, there’s some concept art for an animated film version of Wicked made by a Disney animator back in late 2013, but in never got passed drawing board especially after Universal bought the film rights to turn it into the two part movie we have today. Yes, I know Part 2 does not come out until next year, but you know what I mean.
And the crazy about this is that it is very similar to the late 1930s when Walt Disney wanted to make The Wizard of Oz his second animated feature after Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but didn’t got the chance to when MGM got the film rights and turned into the 1939 classic.
It's so amazing that Elphaba can just write in perfect Times New Roman font.

It's perfect. The timing, the difference in mannerisms between the two girls, the part where Elphie walks through the crowd singing about hate, the character designs...
I mean, I started giggling as soon as I saw Elphaba's handwriting.
And oh, you got that subtext at the very beginning so perfectly. I wanted to scream JUST KISS!

Okokok so I have this thing where I don't wanna get too invested in a musical's songs before I can see it (with the exception of sung through musicals), but living where I do it's expensive to go see things live. So, obviously, I was excited for the movie to come out and now I'm just. So hyped. This animatic is great and I want more but im nervous to get too into the fandom before the second part comes out
This is fantastic! I love the expressions, the smoothness of the movements and little details of characterization in the body language, like Galinda twirling her quill as she tries to not just insult Elphaba in her writing. And the Shiz banner proclaiming everyone is welcome while Elphaba is being blatantly, shamelessly and absolutely ostracised. You match the tone and rhythm of the song perfectly.
I love the sliding down the railing at 2:56, it's just great
This animatic is severely underappreciated, and I'm so happy to see people making Wicked content so long after it was released because I absolutely adore the musical. The energy is just all perfect here, Glinda is dramatic, Elphaba is just done, it's amazing.
Also, out of curiosity, what programs did you use to make this? I've been trying to make an animatic as put-together as this one, but I'm not certain where to start, lol

This was so so so gooood!!! The shots are so diverse, the camera movements and the characterization adds so much. Everything that happens feels clear, you use light and shadows to show distance, and it's all just really smart and lively. :D
This has got to be one of the best storyboards for this song that I’ve ever seen. Like, the placement, the pacing, to the designs and capturing their personalities. This is A1 storyboard animation right here.

Stars, you have an AMAZING eye for character, detail and framing!!! :3 Things like the pan out from the school, Galinda's effect in the line "these things are meant to try us", the slide down the handrail, how Elphaba hunches her shoulders as the crowd bares on - your grasp and articulation of these characters, the medium, and what you can do with them both is STELLAR, and I'm incredibly glad I ever thought to click on this video. I love how the drawings and staging look so professional and well made. The characters are also super expressive, and you did a perfect job of capturing the subtle romantic themes throughout the song. Seriously, excellent work!!! 😊

This is the most professional looking amateur animatic I have ever seen. It looks like something straight out of the “behind the scenes” section of a DVD. If Wicked is ever made into an animated movie, I sure hope they can get Kristin Chenoweth and Idena Menzel to star.

Sometimes you watch an animatic and you can tell in the first ten seconds that it's gonna be ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR.
Your character designs are fucking _perfect_ (Glida so smol :o ). And then you follow it up with that hilarious blanket toss? Elphaba is _done_ with her roommate, haha.
