Wow. After all these years, I never realized - Boq was about to call Elphaba by her real name before referring to her as "The Witch". That gives this a whole different weight to it, especially if you've read the book the musical's based on. Never read it myself, but I'm pretty sure he and Elphaba were more of friends there than in the musical.
I don't blame Dorothy because she was caught in a tonadro. She didn't know it landed on somebody. She literally had no control over it whatsoever. Glinda gave her the shoes and told no too because they have great power. Otherwise, she wouldn't want them so badly. Not to mention, she heard, she was the Wicked Witch of the West. She just wanted to go home. That's it. She was desperate to go.
Yeah, Dorothy was basically just doing the best she could in a scary and confusing situation based on instructions from people she had no obvious reason to distrust. And she was still a kid.
The original Movie and Wicked are two different stories with two very different characters. The OG WWOTW threatened a little girl upon first seeing her, was immediately happily distracted at the opportunity of stealing something from her sisters still warm body and then threatened said little girl again to take the Ruby Slippers which became her priority instead of avenging her sister.
The fact that Boq nearly says Elphaba and covers it up by calling her a witch is by far the most heartbreaking moment in this scene. He literally doesn't care about murdering someone who was his friend.
well, you can blame her sister for shrinking his heart, and Aqaba had to save his life, but he almost died by her sister won’t spell so the scissor is the one to blame for not elphaba
@ yeah he definitely heartless the reason he’s heartless because her sister was trying to get get him to be in love with her, but that didn’t work out because he read it wrong and she almost killed him so that’s why she turned them into a tin man
It's not that Boqs heartless, his situation is similar to the Grinch. His heart is still inside its just very small, and he is letting his rage blind his judgement because when your hurt badly you tend to try finding someone to blame.
I love this song's portrayal od the Tin Man and Lion. They aren't friendly, docile creatures like in the movie; they're radicalist maniacs fueled by their own spite and blood lust (the Munchkins don't come off looking the best either).
@@peysterkids9481 IIRC he's only roaring because Boq is trying and failing drag him on stage by the tail. He doesn't even have an actor, all you see is his tail being tugged before it's pulled off stage
I know wicked isn’t supposed to be accurate to the original books, but seeing Boq a character who helped Dorothy get to the emerald city who was only mentioned a few times as the Tin man instead of Nick Chopper, is so strange to me.
Yeah I’m the biggest fan of the musical, but after reading the book series I muuuch prefer to think of the scarecrow & tinman as unrelated characters of their own - rather than being boq or fiyero
This made me cry in the theatre 😂 I was like sobbing in the theatre next to my mom as I was also whispering no that’s not true, stop, stop lying, you’re wrong she would gladly die for each of you, stop! 😂
Keep in mind that Tin Man heard propaganda about Elphaba for years from the Wizard, a benevolent and revered figure in their society. And he doesn’t really have a reason to distrust the Wizard, as he’s been stuck in Munchkinland for the past year and therefore couldn’t see the Wizard’s actions for himself. Also, Nessa used to be kind to him and ended up enslaving him. She’s Elphaba’s sister too. So why should Tin Man doubt that Elphaba didn’t have a similar change of heart? It seems only natural for him to believe that. Finally, while you and I know that Elphaba DID save his life, Tin Man doesn’t know this. His heart was literally shrinking at the time-he must’ve been in complete agony. And he did literally pass out afterwards, as we see for ourselves. So he doesn’t really know that Elphaba saved him-all he knows is that Nessa and Elphaba were talking and then his heart began shrinking and then he woke up as Tin Man with Nessa shouting after him that “it was Elphaba” as he fled. Similarly to the Lion’s misunderstanding of what Elphaba did for him, the Tin Man misunderstands the role that Elphaba had in his transformation. This is why he blames her. He blames both Nessa and Elphaba-but Nessa is already dead.
when this happens in the movie I think it would be cool if it was raining. That usually happens in stuff like this. beauty and the beast (1991) did it frankenstine did it (I think) And speaking of frankenstine if musical film adaption were to be made maybe they could have a simler song
I think this happens when the gang is in/near Emerald City, So Boq/The Tin Man and the Lion (Which is being forced) are starting this riot against the witch/Elphaba, most likely Dorothy and Fiyero/The Scarecrow are just exploring Emerald City (Or just exploring) and having..fun(?) maybe.
