      An excellent reason why thr Vulcans didn't want to believe in time travel; they didn't want to encourage any mistakes made by eager humans- or other aliens. Good thing it worked out well in "TVH". Same went for mind-melding: the Vulcans didn't want Pa'nar Syndrome to be spread by inefficient mind-melds in inexperienced Vulcans. Fortunately, T'Pau knew how to cure it in 'Pol when Tolaris gave her the disease for several yrs..

    You missed off the spatial rift which created the “alternate” Enterprise NX-01, in the Delphic Expanse. Mind you, that was accidental, and also a product of circumstance, which did not repeat itself in the very timeline in which that very alternate Enterprise entered itself. It could be said, in its own way, that this generationally progressed crew of the NX-01, created a Predestination Paradox, by sheer fluke of their actions. The crew didn’t explicitly interfere in the timeline before encountering their “past” selves. They didn’t stop the Xindi’s prototype weapon. And they ultimately chose to help Archer and his crew to make it through the spatial rift. By accomplishing this, without sending the NX-01 back in time this time, it was presumed by Archer’s crew that at this exact point, the Enterprise of their “descendants” simply ceased to exist; probably due to a completion of the causal paradox, but nobody ever really found out for sure.

    I'm surprised the O'Brien method of time travel was brought up, considering it's never really something people mention when talking about time travel or O'Brien himself. Though it's likely one of the most lethal methods, since Prime O'Brien died in the alternate timeline from the armband device's radiation and Alternate O'Brien had to take his place for the rest of the entire franchise.

    The Borg are far too clever to use Time Travel. I have very little doubt they never use it except in the absolute need to fix time travel used by others.
    The Borg no doubt know exactly how consistently Time Travel tends to cause major damage to one’s own ends (Thanks Krenim) and often leave others with access to altering time “back.”
    I’m of the Runner opinion that the only reason we ever see it used is due to the personal vendetta of the Borg Queen at the time of First Fontact.

    • @patrickmccurry1563
      @patrickmccurry1563 2 роки тому +17

      They're too arrogant to habitually use time travel, IMO. Because it requires admitting that the present enemy cannot be beaten. They have to "cheat" fighting an earlier more primitive and less valuable enemy.

      @@SchneeflockeMonsoon They brag, bluster, threaten, always seem to use barely enough resources to reach their goals. They are horribly inefficient and ego driven from what I've seen on screen. I admit that often dialogue strongly disagrees with the actual actions in Star Trek. But actions on screen should matter somewhat, right?

    • @SchneeflockeMonsoon
      @SchneeflockeMonsoon 2 роки тому +14

      @@patrickmccurry1563
      If actions on screen matter, then they’re deadly efficient. The Borg had nigh on infinite resources to draw upon, but only send one cube to a place at a time. Why? Because that’s all they need.
      While yes, the Borg Queen is emotional and can be flawed, which model that is tends to alter their weaknesses. Even the most self-driven of them was terrifyingly effective at appeasing the Collective while also achieving her goals.
      The Borg announce themselves not out of arrogance but out of protocol. If their words can terrify an opponent into surrender (which I guarantee happens more often than not), then it is most effective to use the minimal power of a communication to do so. They do not bluster, but merely act.

    I find that If I eat Kit Kat bars I gain the ability to travel in time at a rate of 1 second per second - it is 100% effective and safe - but if I eat to many Kit Kats may result in some side effects. Some have suggested that Broccoli may enable a similar effect.

    Seriously, if Q ever showed up, I'd just try to appease him by saying, "I'll participate in your games only if any damage that occurs is reversed at the end. Like any casualties be reversed or any worlds ended be undone once the game is over". And if he ever gives me any Q powers, I might actually try to have some fun with it, but will ultimately undo any damages I cause. And I will also use the powers for good also. Like saving lives, or curing incurable diseases, or stopping natural disasters, ending wars, things along those lines. Then of course I'd also experiment with divergent timelines and what-if scenarios.

    Also worth noting that depending on the method, the time travel may result in the travelers changing the timeline with or without affecting themselves or, liek in the RED matter's case, creatign an alternate timeline without changing your own....although the Red matter might have been both temporal and universal travel like that rift the Mirror Universe Tholians crated, so it didn't create a new timeline as it were but merely messed with an already pre-existing universe.

  • @DissociatedWomenIncorporated

    Your last method had an incorrect example. When the NCC-1701 got flung back in time three days, there was indeed a problem with its warp drive getting shutdown, but they time travelled by doing a slingshot manoeuvre around a black hole. In fact, this is how Starfleet learnt of the slingshot method in the first place.
    But other than my nerdy nitpicking, thanks for yet another great video! I’ve absolutely messed up my toe today, I’m in so much pain I think it might actually be broken, and your video provided me with ten minutes of solid entertainment that helped keep my mind off of the pain.
    God, you Great, all-knowing Koala, _please_ don’t let this actually be broken, I need to go out tomorrow and get glasses… and if you let it be broken, I might need to change my faith and start worshipping Kahless, or the Prophets. Maybe even Q! …The John de Lancie one, not the weird conspiracy theories one.

    Slingshot time travel (or horribly misunderstood Oberth maneuvers as I call them. lol) imply the possibility of natural disasters involving them. Imagine a pre-warp civilization sending out a distress call about a giant planetoid coming out of nowhere. Even if it didn't hit anything , it would cause havoc to the the system.

    The Temporal Transporter was only used in the episode Relativity in Star Trek Voyager. The upside to the Temporal Transporter is that a crewmember could be transported from the 24th to the 29th century to the time ship Relativity. The downside was the Temporal Transporter had to be used VERY SPARINGLY and could only be used on a person 4 times before it would cause massive temporal damage to that person's body chemistry resulting in sensory ephasia and eventually causing death if too many temporal transports were made. As we recall seeing, Seven died during a temporal transport after she was discovered by Janeway and her crew. And Janeway was also warned toward the end of the episode about Voyager traveling through time too much. "And captain.. Braxton was right about one thing. Voyager shows up far too often on our sensors. Try to avoid time travel."

    TOS episode "The Naked Time": Controlled implosion of warp engine reaction chamber.
    You need a legendary Vulcan science officer, a legendary engineer, a close orbit around a planet experiencing final breakup, and a starship crew that has been on a three day bender due to an out of control contagion of an anomalous transformation of water into a long chain molecule resembling alcohol. At some point, a blind drunk ensign with a bad singing voice needs to have shut the warp drive off, necessitating a rapid restart by means of an untried procedure. This procedure will result in a variation of warp travel in which minimal distance is covered while the ship instead is projected backwards in time fast enough that three objective days will regress in a subjective duration of about two minutes.
    (In navigation terms, it's a matter of zeroing the distance variable while deliberately making a bad landing on the temporal variable.)

    You forgot stasis fields. They're the slow time machine from our perspective but from the perspective of the occupant no time has passed. They are limited in that they only go forward in time unless you go anti spinward of a blackhole which theoretically will cause 'frame dragging'.
    "Frame-dragging is an effect on spacetime, predicted by Einstein's general theory of relativity, that is due to non-static stationary distributions of mass-energy. A stationary field is one that is in a steady state, but the masses causing that field may be non-static, rotating for instance. The first frame-dragging effect was derived in 1918, in the framework of general relativity, by the Austrian physicists Josef Lense and Hans Thirring, and is also known as the Lense-Thirring effect.[1][2][3] They predicted that the rotation of a massive object would distort the spacetime metric, making the orbit of a nearby test particle precess."

    One question that I don't has been brought up is ; How can you have a temporal police force if they are in the general time line because they could also be affected by someone screwing up the time line? The answer is you can't. This temporal police force would have to exist in some sort of side band channel that is outside the general time line but had the ability to interact with the general time line in order perform maintenance and monitoring on it. You have to have something like this; otherwise your temporal police force would be vulnerable to time travel tampering itself. Has this ever been brought up in the lore?

    What do we want? TIME TRAVEL! When do we want it? IT'S IRRELEVANT!
    No one could've foreseen that.
    Also, what about the temporal rift from Yesterday's Enterprise or the time loop that caught the Enterprise D and the Bozeman?
    Someone needs to do a edited version in the proper order.

    well a Q might just send you back in time to when earth was a being formed and leave you stranded, so i would proabbly advise against pestering a Q.
