    Finally, I found real people, real Moms!!! I was tired of 28 yr olds w huge new houses , clothes, perfectly bleached teeth. Come on. The maid probably shows up before the video to clean while the nanny is watching them as you film! Great time n tested ideas w cute humor! I love how it's about all ages. Limits on electronics. Talk over dinner. I, too, have fibro. I hate that I get sick n have down time but its life! Thanks for your series. Keep them coming! They're like having morning coffee w a good friend!!!!❤❤❤❤

    Thank you so much for these amazing tips. I also suffer from fibromyalgia and so many people don't understand how it drains you of all of your energy and can be very painful. So thank you for giving people like us a voice, and also encouragement. I really appreciate everything have been doing. I'm trying to follow ya'lls advice, just trying everyday. Thank y'all again.

    I Literally teared up when I heard you talk about your physical ailments. I am a single mom with no family, no child support with fibromyalgia and CFS as well. I work and take care of my toddler on top of exclusively taking care of my home. I am so frustrated with these videos of women with boundless energy, on top of a mate who works and helps with the kids. Your videos are so touching because they are realistic for me and my situation. THANK YOU isn't nearly enough for the incredible feeling I get watching your video thinking about how realistic your tips are for me in my situation. I hate how messy my house is and so far all of the advice I have found seems so unrealistic, unachievable. I am ecstatic to start with your tips because they are things I believe I can actually manage to add into my already packed schedule.

      Bless you, I'm saying a prayer for you. So sorry to hear of your struggles, but you are doing a great job with what you have. I'm a new mom and am amazed by you💗😘🤗 I hope you have some support system, a church or a couple friends you can lean on. Other women at church were actually more helpful than my family when baby and I needed help.:) good luck, and love in that little toddler👶🏼🤗

      Melissa you're not alone Momma, be kind to yourself and know that toddlers soon turn into little kids whom are more helpful than we think they are. I got my 3 and 4 yr olds to get into the rhythm that picking up their things is expected and at one point I was feeling about the worst fibro can make you feel and I ended up playing a game with them OF peek a boo with their toys starting on the floor and I'd cover my eyes while laid out on the couch in pain then "PEEK A BOO" they would move the toy into the toy bin. You just have to get the moving of the toy to the bin as the coolest thing in the world and they take it from there.....now if only I could get them to do the dishes. No matter what you're doing a great job! When you do the best you can your kid(s) will see that so know you are doing a great job! Take care and stay two steps ahead when you have fibro, kid(s), and no family to help.

    I really enjoyed this video! We are going to be "supervising" our three grandsons this summer for 6 weeks. This is going to be top on my list of "things to do" each day. Our grandsons are 9, 12,and 13 and our daughter is already doing a great job with them, but I am going to make sure that home is immaculate when she and her husband come in each day.

    doing dishes is a great time to have one on one time with a child. They tell you things that happen in school, why they are not speaking to a brother, why they hate so and so.
    Nobody comes into the kitchen because they don't want to get roped into a job so have a night for each child. Raised 2 boys this way and when they come home they send their children out to play with grandpa while we do dishes. they are now 39 and 37.

      doing the dishes with children is an important teaching exercise as well as simply clearing up as they learn to handle the crocs and the k's & f's & s's & the pans and tools and to put them away where they are kept so that everything is in place for the cooking of the next cooked meal

  • @narelleworks8448
    @narelleworks8448 9 років тому +3

    Hello Ladies. Lovely to see you. Finally, someone of my uh age group who understands where I come from. The importance of teaching kids how to pick it up. And That half the battle is the habit of using time efficiently.
    Having had a series of chronic illnesses, starting with CFS, I know the value of using those few minutes while waiting for coffee, to unpack a shelf in the dishwasher, etc. I learned to clean up my own mess as I go. If I use a plate and cutlery, when I'm finished using it, it's rinsed and either stacked or put into the dishwasher. If I make a mess while cooking, i clean up as I go so if I get too sick in the next half hour, it's not a catastrophe if it takes days to get back to it. Use the walk to the bathroom to drop off things on the way (if it's possible). If you pass the kitchen take the cup and plate to the sink, quick rinse and stack. I reckon I've been sick too long to not be eager to make chores quick and efficient. Standing for an hour or so cleaning plates that could walk on their own is not best use of my healthy time. Yet, what i have learned has made me appreciate what I can do. Still much to organise, partly because it is an ongoing process and partly because I can't put my den into the dishwasher! 😜
    Great to see you both sharing your wisdom on UA-cam.

    • @briannab5296
      @briannab5296 8 років тому +2

      oh Narelle 😁 you NAILED IT with "standing for an hour or so cleaning plates that could walk on their own is not best use of my healthy time"!! .. you are so right! i've been doing it backwards all this time, doing kitchen duty during my stronger times to help me plow thru it, and despising every moment of it... I've noticed over the years i can actually get more cleaning done during my weaker sicklier times, possibly bcause my mind zones out and i'm not resenting all the other cool stuff i could be doing if i was feeling better. Thank you for your comment, you have changed my entire perspective on kitchen duty! 😘

    You have always been so inspiring to me. I'm really going to take your advise and see if I can have a cleaner house. My hubby and I are both real bad about not putting stuff away. I guess you could say we are lazy but I DO like the feeling I have when I have a clean house, I just don't get that feeling very often. :( Thank you and keep on sharing! It will sink in one day and become a lifestyle change when good habits are formed.

    • @LivingOnADime
      @LivingOnADime  9 років тому +2

      Terry Hall Yeah it's really hard to get into the habit of keeping it clean but I've noticed once I get my bedroom spotless then it's easier to see when things are out of place and then just quickly put them back...until the next 4 months when we are all sick again and I let it all go and have to start over! LOL

    • @terryhall2299
      @terryhall2299 9 років тому +1

      I think what my problem is is that I have outgrown my house. I have way too many clothes and I can hear you tell me now the solution is to get rid of some of them but I've tried that and I still need a bigger closet and more drawers. Whatever happened to simplifying my life? I have to start again and get a reality check.

    • @LivingOnADime
      @LivingOnADime  9 років тому +2

      Terry Hall www.livingonadime.com/how-many-clothes-do-i-need/ here's our article on how many clothes you need. If you get it pared down that will help a lot. Really I used to be bad about collecting things but now I think, "do I really need this?" and usually I don't. So it sounds like you really need to just get rid of some stuff first. Don't make it hard. Just do one drawer or cabinet or shelf a day! Sometimes that all you can get done and that's ok. But the trick to keeping it that way is to ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, organize and keep neat that one section once you have it done. Take literally 1 minute and just straighten it as you put stuff away or go to that cabinet.

      Hey dear, what is the update now? Were u able to declutter ur home? I feel ya! You need to try the Konmari method if you haven't already! There are tons of videos about that method on youtube. You seriously gotta try it! Me and my mom are like that! :( And my mom is a hoarder and she had medicines from 1981! So I got her habit of hoarding but I'm trying to get rid of the habit. I had around 375 tops, today I have barely 50! Had 120 shoes, today I ahve only 11! I had 32 purses, wallets and today I have only 10! I only have things that give me real joy and the ones that I ACTUALLY REACH for! That's the key. I've come a long way since I started the Konmari technique a month back. Plz try the technique and give me an update. xoxo :)

    • @saundrajohnson1571
      @saundrajohnson1571 3 роки тому +1

      Sure you can. I used to think the same thing. But if you go to Bed, Bath & Beyond, for example, and see their full selection of bathroom accessories, you’ll find a whole slew of small, decorative trash cans that actually look like planters, or even artwork!
      Normally, I would not advocate shopping in an expensive place like that, but if you’re anything like me, this is a special circumstance.
      I have lived in homes where there was a formal living room and a den, or family room. I would never put a trash can in the formal room, but it was only used for guests, or at Christmas. When my circumstances changed and I no longer had a formal, essentially unused (look, don’t touch) living room, reality set in and I knew it was either a small, tasteful trashcan, or a trashy-looking room. Given those two options, which would you prefer?
      Go shopping, invest in a nice, decorative trashcan, and step down one rung on society’s ladder. Others either won’t even notice, or they’ll be glad you did. 😉

I think the fibromyalgia is from having one leg longer than the other, and my neck and lower back are off kilter because of it. Exercise does help as it loosens everything up.

    I'd like to share a pleasant way to motivate children to tidy up with everyone..(ofcourse we all always need a change..so maybe not do this each and everytme.)..but a way for small children to tidy up could be (example): Let the kiddies tidy up while someone plays a flute/other instrument or sing.. Once the instrument stops.. the kiddies must freeze until the music begins again. I was soo amazed when I saw a colleague play this little game at work (Kindergarden) and hope you'll also enjoy this tip. :) I enjoyed my listen in and thank you both!!

    We play "secret item." I pick an item that needs to be cleaned up, and everyone cleans up the room as fast as possible until the timer goes off (the more things you pick up, the great chance you got the special one). I sit on the couch, nursing the baby, and see who gets the item. At the end, whoever got the secret item gets a little prize (staying up an extra 15 minutes after bedtime, getting to pick the movie for family movie night, that kind of thing).

    Starting to clean at 10 yrs old is too late in life to start a kid cleaning. They become spoiled and back talk their parents. "No mom I'm not gonna clean that u clean it.
    I started cleaning about 3 years old and it's running through my blood when I got older. I didn't complain, I became an underground professional organizer. Start young

      I'm right there with you. Same amount of time and I'll be turning 58 in May. All these years have gone by and I'm finally starting to get better. No Rhyme or Reason and I wouldn't say I'm great but I get out of bed everyday and can do a little something. I hope your better also. What a perplexing and debilitating illness this has been!

    The way I keep things tidy is I put away what I just used as soon as I am done with it otherwise it will be another item to put away and instead I take that extra 4seconds to put it back when I'm done so that helps me a lot but when they're other ppl who are not as diligent as me then I have to remind them like a child, ask them are they finished with what they are touching and if they can clean up after themselves please and I don't like policing my home every hour of every day but ppl need to be accountable and need to be responsible because it's a team work all the time, when they give me a disgruntled look then I just remind them that I wouldn't be telling you anything if you would of picked it up yourself and they get over their egos and quickly Change their look lol great ideas

    You guys! It would have been easier if it was a patterned sheet.
    The correct side should face you, the wrong (faded looking side out). For the fourth corner, the WRONG side of the corner needs to go into the other three corners.
    I was trying to insert the corner's correct side into the three corners so it wasn't working

    Just got a chance to watch this one and I had to laugh about the wedding ring story because my 2 yr old granddaughter threw her sisters hearing aid in the trash and no one knew it until literally right after the trash man pulled away from the house.

    One thing I learned as a teen at my first waitressing job, was to never leave a table empty-handed. I took that little tip home with me, and it quickly became a helpful habit.
    I don’t have CFS, but I do have Fibro. I also have a traumatic brain injury, and degenerative issues from trauma associated with a near-fatal accident years ago, causing intense pain, and among many other things, not allowing me to stand for more than five minutes at a time. Never leaving a room empty-handed is the only way I can cope, or keep up.
    I had Superwoman for a mother. She was Type A, and an expert at everything she did in her life (no exaggeration). Being raised that way, I had really large shoes to fill when I got out on my own. I too became Type A, I was an overachiever, and I had unrealistic expectations for myself. I didn’t always succeed, but I had good habits (Mom started me really young), and I never stopped trying.
    Learning to lower my expectations and my standards after my accident took years! Then, just as I was trying to learn acceptance, I got Fibro, and had to lower standards and expectations yet again. I don’t think the frustration of no longer being able to do what I used to do will ever go away. Example:
    I used to clean my baseboards (on hands and knees) once a month. Now, I can’t even remember the last time I touched a baseboard.
    My house always used to be immaculate. Now, I do well to have that “comfortably lived-in” look, without everything looking messy and cluttered. Never going empty-handed, and using those moments waiting for toast, coffee, or the kettle to boil, are the only ways I can manage in my house now.
    Having to learn to cope, make do, and lower expectations are things that are forced upon us by debilitating health issues. Lord knows it is hard to deal with, and it’s certainly not fair. But I think that as long as we keep trying, and we do what we can, when we can, no one can expect more from us - including ourselves.
    As for kids, I don’t have any. But I was a kid once, with the same Superwoman as a mother. By age six, I could sort and fold laundry. I wasn’t yet tall enough to hang anything, but I was being taught how to iron. Also by that age, not only did I set the table for dinner every night, but I had also learned to set the table for fancy dinner parties for military officers and diplomats.
    Kids nowadays who are not even expected to pick up their dirty clothes, or hang up their wet towels are either lazy and entitled, or are not being parented properly. That is my opinion, and I’m sorry if that sounds harsh. I certainly don’t mean to offend anyone. But I was an only child, raised by a single mother, and I had chores and household responsibilities all my life, from age four on.
    My mother was a hard working woman from a hard-working family, and she raised me to be the same. I know personally what kids are capable of doing, so I can’t help but get annoyed when I see kids today not helping out, or doing their part around the house.
    I think I have ranted long enough, so I’ll get off my soapbox for now. I just hope that what little I have shared may offer some inspiration to others.

    I have fibromyalgia and it has really been hard for me to accept that I can't get things done the way I use to as far as cleaning my house. I make to do lists and then am disappointed and upset when I don't get things done that day. This video helped me a lot for cleaning, but showed me it was okay if everything find' t get done in a day's time.

    I have a homeowner I clean for and she was upset when I told her that I wouldn't pick up the toys in her 6 and 7-year-old;s bedroom. I felt they should be made to pick up their own at that age. I had 5 and like you they learned early that their toys were their responsibility.
