House of the Dragon - Condal Promises Armies Won't Teleport Around Westeros (EW Interview)
It looks like HotD will clearly show the logical progression of the military movements which is a very good thing. Ryan has really done well so far, kudos to him!
Can't wait to see the second season and hoping it will be good if not better
That was definitely one of my concerns - glad 'quick-travel' won't be a thing...
hahahahhahaha the time skips are just fine and pissing dandy
Very encouraging to hear Condal focusing on practicality , realism and logistics with such aspects. Probably not Condal's intent but could be viewed as a subtle dig at GoT which the later seasons seemed to clearly shirk some of those aspects and the audience had to limit expectations in those respects. Respawning and teleporting armies , along with teleporting dragons and armies as well seemed to be par for the course with later GoT. Also, was it the wight hunt episode which really featured some ridiculous teleporting and covering of ground even on foot. Making those compromises really makes the universe seem small and really kills the immersion when we have to question such choices.
Not related but felt TRoP was quite guilty of this as well. There was a lot of we could call it basically teleportation on TRoP as well. Compared to the Jackson LotR trilogy the way PJ highlighted the physical journey / trek itself and how long distances took to travel really made the universe feel expansive and huge. TRoP's 8 hour first season felt quite the opposite as their choices made the universe seem quite small.
Good to see Condal making sure not to mimic the mistakes of other series.
Totally intentional!
This is so good to hear. Realism is the reason I like the world of asoiaf so much
I mean army Teleportation fits best in hotd considering the bs the actual war was and the constant army spewing from the riverlands or the Blackwood head giving done by george
Thanks for the video
good
God forbid they treat their audience like adults and maybe educate them on how war worked in a medieval setting. Learning sucks right guys?! right??
-Dumb & Dumber 2018
But will respawning Riverlanders be there? Probably.
I mean the book has the Riverlands respawn their army 3 times and has sunfyre auto heal twice😂
Question?
There have been rumours or "leaks" that King Landing may fall in this season in episode 8 in a big battle. Are these false?
I don't think King's Landing will be this season given that the Gullet, which appears to be next season, happened before that if my memory serves me right
@@johnrobinson3382 Yes, in Fire and Blood It falls after the Gullet but I've just been seeing posts that events in the books are being rearranged especially with the idea/possibility of Nettles and Rhaena being merged
@@burritoboi2422is fake
They also didn't have Dragons! Dragons are fire-breathing war planes if the comparison is to be fully realized. Witch Queens, Shadow Demons, people who can swap faces with someone they just killed, Potions, Magical Gates...do they even really NEED armies? If magic requires sacrifice/death, then I guess armies in ASOIAF do serve a purpose.
Dragons can be killed by other dragons and there aren't that many.
@azieldaly2965 But they are a REAL Game changer, no matter how they are downplayed.
Would be nice if you can put the interview links in description.
Thank the Gods there will be no army teleporting! All that Fast Travel in the later seasons of GOT was ridiculous!
This is very important ****SPOILERS****
It's important because Stark army is the last to arrive (Theres even a theory that Kregan intentionally didn't arrive early, same with the Arryns), Baratheons take their time fighting another Vulture king and arrive almost by the end in Kingslanding and the whole Hightower army marches slowly, turning rebellions down all the way from OldTown to Tumbleton and actually never arrived in Kingslanding. Even by boat, the Triarchy took its precious time debating before aiding Aegon/Greens
I Think Ryan Condal Wouldn’t Be Saying This In A Published Interview If He Wasn’t As Annoyed With How Bad GOT Went Down As Everyone Else.
Well they teleport in Fire and Blood so wouldnt blame him
What do you think about Condal saying we’re getting 2 huge battles? If we’re not supposed to get the Gullet this szn?
I rewatched House of the Dragon and it's crazy just how good it is. I tried to rewatch GoT for the first time since season 8 ended to satisfy my Westeros craving and it does not hold up. Especially when you compare both shows. I think the problem with GoT is there's far too much going on and none of it really gets a satisfying pay off.
Robert quickly raising an army may also be result of how recent the war of the nine penny kings was and left plenty of veterans eager for a fight.
I wonder in the near future if or when the asoiaf books are finished can it be animated instead
This why Daemon was the smart one during The Black Council.
oh wow we are so spoiled 99
Maybe at worst time skips happens between episodes as a way to "teleport", just like there was time skips between episodes in season 1 but not really time skips in the episode itself.
