House of the Dragon: "Expect Very Little of the Starks " in Season 2, says Hess -- Sara Snow?
I've been watching your channel for a bit more than a year now and let me tell you, hearing the words "BL" and "Ao3" coming out of your mouth just about gave me a stroke. 😂 I was like who told him? Who snitched??
Edit: typo
How long did you think you could keep your preversions a secret?
@@thedragondemands5186 I beg your finest pardon??
@@thedragondemands5186 I am truly and decidedly deceased
@@aria1347 I think you’re some kind of deviated prevert. And now that your preversions have been exposed, you’re trying to organize some kind of…mutiny of preverts ua-cam.com/video/FG_iLJ95Gkg/v-deo.htmlsi=7YbVOa9vOR1iiCzo
@@thedragondemands5186 I don't know why that lives rent free in your head, but from now on, it is most welcome in mine too. There's something simply delicious about iconic quotes with integrated slip-ups / typos
I interpreted it as don't expect the Starks to feel like main characters like they were in GoT.
Came here to say this.
Casual viewers hear 'Stark' and 'Lannister' and expect it to be their show now because of GoT. This is to get ahead of people who hear Cregan Stark and think he and Jace will be back to back on the battlefield and Cregan will be in every 3rd Team Black scene
Bro thats is clear, this is a show about targs
@tajaemartin2251 I really can't stress enough that if you're dedicated enough of a fan to: Engage in communities beyond watching the show, watch UA-cam about it, have found a guy as relatively obscure and completely dedicated to this franchise as TDD is and watch/comment on his videos. That you aren't the average fan.
What is clear to you isn't clear to everyone. Your expectations certainly aren't those of a casual fan who hasn't read the books and is only passingly familiar with the series. This type of person doesn't know the series won't expand out to GoT levels and would be susceptible to hype fandoms, saying all manner of wild speculation. It's only logical to try to cool people down before that is expected. Under promise and over deliver.
@@AntoineVello buddy what you yapping about ? The show is about the targs what you coping about? Lmao
@tajaemartin2251 I am not coping about anything. I'm here saying yes. The show is about Targs, you and I know that.
The average casual fan thinks this is Game of Thrones but 100 years ago and thinks House Stark and House Lannister are about to be as prominent in HOTD as in GOT. Sara Hess is obviously trying to get people to have lower expectations of their prominence.
I took it as we won’t see winter fell or Cregan much and that Sara won’t be in it. The show only has 8 episodes with so many places and characters to cover. Sara isn’t even really a character that has anything to do with the story. It wouldn’t make sense to waste time on her.
I get that as there wont be a specific Stark POV but the POV is thru Jace's eyes. So he goes to Winterfell, we will see Winterfell. He leaves Winterfell, our POV leaves Winterfell.
So do we see Sara Snow through his eyes? That’s the question.
@@thedragondemands5186 I mean i don't think it is necessarily from his perspective, but we will see them as characters surely. Maybe not once he leave Winterfell, but I expect to see The North being big after S2.
@@thedragondemands5186 I don't believe so. It doesn't really add much to the main plot, the Civil War.
i agree. it seems our main locations are kings landing, dragonstone, and harrenhall, with maybe a couple episodes at most featuring these other locations. thats what i understood from the interview lol
@@thedragondemands5186 I think it means we see her but we won't get the expanded romance sub plot.
In case you don't hear it enough, I just wanted to thank you for what you do. I tragically/unexpectedly lost my cat (whom I'd had for 15 years) on Sunday night, and although life feels a bit like a living nightmare at present, binging your videos has been a welcome distraction from it all. So again, thanks Dragon.
Wow. ....Well small consolation; a full and long life
Def seems a bit of a combo of potentially an off take along with tempering expectations from Hess. Starks aren't anywhere near the main focus of this era / conflict and perhaps she is mainly tempering expectations for the casual fans. But HotD does seem to clearly be highlighting Winterfell , the Wall and likely expanding Jace's Northern arc out , compared to the text. Can discern that simply from glimpses in the trailers , let alone statements from Condal. Sara Snow doesn't make or break the series but if it were up to me i'd include her barring GRRM instructing to omit. Even a lusty fling , young blood running hot / Jace giving into his lusty Strong side etc. I am all about highlighting the flaws of these characters ; to me these people's flaws and some of their mega ambition really define this era to me and should be amply highlighted. Though with Jace and Sara unless GRRM flat out told Condal that either she didn't exist or simply nothing happened between them , was all rumor and speculation. In that case perhaps a brief introduction would suffice.
Rhollor willing we wont see much of the Starks as Cregan doesnt do f all
What?
@@LauraGS564 Cregan won't do anything for 3 seasons
@@eversor10 You can develop his character tho. He won't just appear in KL for Hour of the Wolf without any development.
@@LauraGS564 I'd rather develop the character who will die before then
@@eversor10 they will do for everyone. Jace will be in season 2, since he dies in season 3
am i misreading or did she say expect little for sara snow not starks ?
Honestly idgaf about the starks they stole all the attention in GOT and it got so annoying. This is suppose to be about the TARGS and I'm glad it is
It is a continent-wide conflict tho. Not just the Targs.
And here I was thinking it was only myself who couldn’t care less about the Starks or Winterfell lol
@@LauraGS564 not really. It certainly involves the whole realm but it's literally about the Targaryens... the dance is legit targ vs targ. The rest of the realms perspective is super irrelevant from a writing standpoint.
@@Hero_Of_Old Thank you. That was clear from the beginning.
@@smarty2985 I think they meant GOT, where the Stark's are arguably the main characters. During the dance? Absolutely not.
I think Sara Hess is doing exactly what the EW author says, "tempering expectations" for how much Sara Snow plays a part. Everyone hears the Starks and loses their collective minds because they were (are) so popular with the ASOIAF fanbase. I feel like Hess isn't as adept at playing up the show's talking points, and Condal, et al. are more articulate for the sake of the broader audience (and let's be honest, HBO wants to talk up the Starks' role in this show as much as possible)
I don't think much of Sarah Hess as she deleted the comforting scenes with daemon she's not a fan of his character
IMO, Hess needs to stay away from interviews. I recall her having some really cringy quotes last season too.
It does make sense to not see the Starks alot since they couldnt do alot in the beginning of the war. We got the Hour of the Wolf to make up for it. I just hope we get to see Sara Snow since her existence is a huge question mark in the books
As long as Gregan Stark does not say "She's my queen" for 2 seasons, it will be fine.
They could have just gone with the angle that Mushroom made up Sara Snow and not include her. Also there's the added complication of the optics of Jace falling in love with the pale skinned Sara over the dark skinned Baela.
So if Jace happens to fall for Sara Snow, he’s racist?
@@Falconforge89 You know that's what some people would say.
No but it'd leave a bad taste in some people's mouths. Because he's not a real person and that attraction would have been a decision made by the writers. Which then begs the question, why. @@Falconforge89
@@Falconforge89 It wouldn't make sense on the show. They went out of their way to show that Jace and Baela created a bond the day they met on Driftmark. They endured something traumatic together and probably bonded a bit more after their parents married. At this point Jace and Baela understand each other. Jace falling in love with Sara after knowing her for two days is ridiculous.
Sara Hess is the worst thing that has ever happened to the asoiaf universe
Are you joking? or Dumb and dumber defender?? Or a misogynist?
Sara snow is going to be the new Ros (unserious theory)
21:22 Saying things to “yank people’s chains” hurts credibility. It makes me cranky that I’m not sure if I can trust them
Didn’t Robb Stark do just that?
Robb had sex with Jeyne out of grief after being told that Theon killed Bran and Rickon and then married her to protect her honor. Mushroom specifically says that Jace and Sara married first and then had sex.
A gay love affair with Jace and Cregan!? While I would love to see that done properly I’m sure it sadly won’t be a thing lol
Plus Sara Hess has such a controversy fueling sentences, it's hilarious.
A minor subplot with a well-developed romance (in some form) between Jace and Sara (not leading to marriage) would be too good of an opportunity to waste (since young love is such a thankful subject in a television show), and is indeed still possible (given Hess' comments). I really hope they'll do it like this, but we'll have to see.
It could also be they (basically or even completely) cut the character and replaced this subplot with something else entirely, i.e. we get 'just' this 'Jace at/beyond the Wall' storyline (which currently is still clouded in mystery, so I can only withhold my judgment on that).
Sara Snow will be used to explain the details of the Pact of Fire and Ice. They make a deal, then she tries to seduce him, then they read a book and the audience gets the details of the Rhaegar Lyanna story explained.
10:33 is that a joke? Lol, I mean that's literally what Robb did in the books.
Robb had sex with Jeyne after learning that Theon killed Bran and Rickon. Then, he married her to protect her honor. Mushroom specifically says that Jace and Sara married first and then had sex.
Here's my headcanon: Jace returns and by the way he acts Mushroom realises that he's no longer a virgin. He gets Jace drunk, hoping he'll give him the juicy details. Jace admits to having had steamy gay sex with Cregan.🥰 Mushroom likes Jace so although he loves scandalous stories he don't want to ruin his reputation. So he invents Sara Snow.
Edit: I just had this image of Alysanne Blackwood reading Mushroom's book.
Black Aly: Husband, you never told me you had a bastard half-sister. What happened to her?
Cregan: Half-sister? I've never had a half-sister.
Black Aly: Then who did Prince Jacaerys lie with when he visited during the war?
Cregan: Uh...😰
Not A fan of Hess she say a lot of things that are quistionable. Damn she wrote the worst Episodes 6 and 9. Who that damn Rhaenys scene so stupid, let's hope we don't have any of that this season.
But it makes sens the Straks and The notherners around much, they are in the later stages of the war
People are gonna misinterpret this too badly
yeah didnt this happen in season 1 too?? 😂
@@misti-step it did. She needs to be careful with how she words stuff, she is really bad at talking lol
also, hess didnt say expect very little of the STARKS, she said expect very little of SARA SNOW. youve been my most reliable source for game of thrones/house of the dragon info for years, but this is the first time youve done the same exaggeration in your video title that youve complained about in this exact video of others doing. you titling this video "did hess say to expect very little of the starks???" is the same as the other hotd source stating from this that sara snow has been cut completely. i love your work, and your channel, but this feels like sloppy outrage bait. (im only a couple minutes into this video, so if this ISNT what youre trying to say, im sorry and ill remove this comment, but i still think your title is very misleading.)
Agree on the title being misleading...putting "expect very little Starks" in quotes is disingenuous because that's not what she said
this channel is becoming more and more dramatic for no good reason, much like the show it covers. the BOOK was so much more compelling and dramatically layered because the story and its characters weren't reductive semblances of their former selves.
im fine with not seeing much, or any, of sara. if they do the jace sara secret marriage route, it would seem like a total retread of the robb talia plot. plus, it would feel completely out of character for jace
Starks wont be a focus in season 2 , only for a few minutes in like1 or 2 episodes, this is a show about targs
Cregan is more important than most non-Targaryens. He's the wolf at the door
Really Sarah Hess needs to stop giving interviews. It always creates problems
Ikr lol
NGL if they cut Nettle's and Morning but include Sara Snow to waste screen time I'm gonna be a little mad.
I prefer to think that Sara Snow seduces Jace and that that have sex in the Godswood before the heart tree, which she then claims counts as a valid marriage in the tradition of the Old Gods even though Jace knew nothing of that custom and did not intend to wed her.
Much as Ygritte sprung “marriage” on Jon Snow
Sara Hess is the same person who wants to destroy Rhaenyra and Daemon's relationship, she is the same person who said she wants a scene of Rhaenyra and Alicent kissing and ending up together as lesbians. Sara Hess is the same one who asked people to feel sorry for Aegon, no one will feel sorry for rapists and the crimes they commit.
For me it just seems like everything we'll see in the North will be through Jace's pov only, which is more than fair.
Lowkey y’all, don’t listen to Sara Hess 😭😭
Do you think they might make jace and cregan have some romantic connection? I think i heard a rumor to that affect
there are rumors they have a gay love affair
Nope, Jace and Baela are together, together, and not because of an arranged betrothal. I don't think many realize the scene between Jace and Baela on Driftmark was foreshadowing. Supposedly, they bonded that day and over the years they fell in love.
I think it's clever-these interviews. All of them are geared to make us choose a side, lowkey. There are sides to every story, even in the interviews. Two sides to every story make the truth the 3rd head of the Dragon. Black or Green, everyone is going to lose-both sides are right, and they are both wrong. Neither side has the Truth.
Hess didn't bring up Sara Snow. She was asked a question about Sara Snow. The article from EW is deceptive because they don't quote the questions that they asked the cast and creators. They do this so they can use quotes out of context for their own purposes in the overall article.
Feels like HBO is pushing them to bring out Starks for show watchers despite them barely doing anything in the Dance proper
My money says Sara will only briefly appear, if she even appears in the show at all. I'd say there will be a flirtation or kiss. Maybe a one night stand at most, but unless they're planning on pulling a Robb Stark, no way is that happening.
Sara Hess kind of... forgot about Sara Snow. And Nettles.
Good
We do not know that. Please stop with this reactionary stuff. We do not know Nettles has been cut. There is no evidence of that.
What’s there to remember about Sara? She’s literally debated to not even be real 😭
Im kinda confused, does this somewhat confirm that Sara Snow is atleast in the show? No matter the storyline
Condal said that the season has 8 episodes because of story reasons, Hess said recently it has 8 because of HBO, honestly, they seem a little confused about what is going on since they are both providing conflicting information. I wonder if this is the same thing.
It's most likely both. My guess is HBO wouldn't give them a larger budget, so they reduced the number of episodes themselves so they can tell the story as effectively as possible (which in this point of the story needs a larger budget to do).
why does everyone say daemon "Daymond"
I say “Day-mon”
@@thedragondemands5186Deh-myn
No Sara means they could go jace and cregon secret love instead of friends like brothers
And Ryan Condal has an interview on the HoTD channel saying Daemon, Rhaenyra and Alicent are main characters and we'll meet other characters from their eyes. We'll definitely see The North with Jace's eyes as Condal says. And we'll see other houses a lot.
Sara Hess probably fails to articulate what to say properly.
Not A fan of Hess she say a lot of things that are quistionable. Damn she wrote the worst Episodes 6 and 9. Who that damn Rhaenys scene so stupid, let's hope we don't have any of that this season.
@@kjellduteweert9262 Episode 6 was in no way worst, and episode 9 had problems sure. ANd that Rhaenys scene was not solely her idea, but a creative decision made by the team. She can't articulate stuff, yes, but that does not make it questionable. She obviously has been misinterpreted a lot, like you clearly are doing rn
