    Great talk Preistly! Everything you said is spot on. For anyone out there that is 40yo+ with a family I’d add: 1) whatever you think your life roll needs are, double or triple it 2) if you decide on bringing 3 buyins with you to play, actually bring 6. You’d still leave if you lose your 3, but it feels good to leave with $ in your pocket. This strategy also allows you to jump into a bigger game that looks juicy#shottaking 3) when calculating your win rate, initially - cut it in half when you move up in stakes. 4) game select like mad (sometimes the best games are at times/places you might not expect)

      I definitely agree with more savings is better. I will respectfully disagree about bringing 6 buyins, just in case you're tempted to keep playing especially when there's a high probability of tilt after losing several buyins. Thanks for your thoughts man!

      PokerPriest yeah, for sure...I should’ve added “only bring the extra if you know you’re able to walk away”. #MentalGame

    Location is also a factor that should be taken into account. 2/5 games in Vegas will generally be tougher than games in say LA and some other spots on the east coast as well (I know east coast better than west coast)....

    Poker is a game - people forget that.. we have to risk money because it’s the right play.. but won’t always win. If we aren’t rolled properly and making those risks impact u greatly overall you can’t play properly

      Totally agree with you, if you continually make the right plays you will be rewarded in the long term, even if the short term results end up being a loss. Thanks for you input!

    One min buy-in at the highest stake you can stomach (at least 2/5). Win 50 (10,000 BB) buy-ins then quit your job. Playing 1/2 live while you have a job is boring and when you're bored money leaks and you will never get better at poker.
    My last game on Sun March 15, 2020 2/5 1000 cap, before COVID-19 shutdown, eight hours cash out at +$2,400. Stacks were getting 2000BB deep and I had to quit. When it's that deep I play too Nitty.
    Table selection is important, remember you don't have to be the best poker player in a cash game, you'll only have to be better than two or three players at your table.

    I’m never gonna save 20 buy ins for 2/5. But I can bring 500 to the poker room once or twice a month and see what I can do with it. I will play better when I do play, and in my free time I will study videos and read poker books. 1/2 is not worth the time in my opinion. You got one chip leader with a bunch of short stacks all around you usually with the rake. 2:5 or just don’t play unless your just trying to get out of the house and don’t want to really make any money or try to use poker as a second source of income. I stopped playing completely last time I went back to 1/2 and it’s just not worth it. If I really start losing month after month I will take a break for a while but I don’t see how if your studying and learning more about theory and making better reads you can keep losing. 1/2 made me a losing player for way to long. Since moving ton2/5 I have more control and take the game way more seriously and enjoy the people at the table a lot more then the clowns at 1/2

    If you need 20+ buyins to avoid going broke in small stakes live poker you're likely a losing player and should invest in studying rather than trying to get money to build a roll.

    • @ThirstLounge
      @ThirstLounge  5 років тому

      This seems reasonable. Studying and growing as a poker player is key to long term success.
