The more I hear about the worldbuilding of this game, and the love and care and dedication the team have put into it, the more I can't wait to explore it and see this world firsthand!
Oh that werewolf design really is tremendous. These devlogs just keep raising the bar for me in terms of excitement! RIP to Frank, as well. I'm really hoping the project can reach that $1m stretch goal to bring more of that Dwarf flavour to the early access build.
Can't wait for this. Backed it on Kickstarter. This is a game made by gamers, not by a soulless corporation or for their shareholders. You can just tell the sheer effort that's gone into it. Great job!
It's so great to see another Devlog and to meet more of the team. Arcvein's talk of werewolves was especially good... I thought we were going to get some bird talk from him when the bird art popped up, but instead we were given some foreshadowing for things to come. Love it! The Bits on Romantic Realism were also good of course and I think what Naotib had to say about the Lexicon and especially that monsters and animals aren't just there to fill the lands of TWR but instead they are there because they naturally live in the world is... well I think that speaks volumes about the OLGs game design philosophy. Great stuff. It's really cool to hear that Frank will be memorialized as the Dwarven King in TWR as I see was mentioned below in the comments. He sounds Like a great guy who contributed a lot to The Wayward Realms. I like what the dwarfs are meant to be in this game so thanks for your significant contribution to that and everything else you had a hand in Frank. Also, cool to learn that one of the Factions will be his namesake... I can only assume it will be dwarfin. RIP Frank.
Really hope this game releases, and to success. As I have gotten older, I've been finding myself more and more enthralled by these older RPG games, primarily Daggerfall, and less on these more modern games where it feels like so much resource and effort are being put into the wrong areas, to the detriment of the game itself (Graphics, over world, engine over gameplay, etc.)
I love that what you're showing so far is a completely original approach that doesn't feel limited by modern sensitivities and expectations. Some great games like Witcher and Dragon Age Origins had that once but with each sequel you could feel how curated the games became in order to broaden their market appeal and that killed the immersion. I'm so impressed by how you're creating an authentic world that feels believable, such as by including the nudity in the statues, the new and more realistic approach to the werewolf, the fact that you've paid attention to regular fauna and wildlife (the birds for example) and not just made everything monsterous or magical - these are the kinds of things that made old school games feel so immersive. They felt like an escape into a believable and exotic place. Newer fantasy games have become so boring because they all look and feel so similar. Please continue to take risks and stay true to yourselves and your vision without compromising for the sake of broad appeal. Real gamers and fantasy lovers are quick to pick up on that and will always support authenticity.

The way you describe your approach to worldbuilding as conceptualizing something that might exist or have existed and adding a romanticist flavour to it is really intriguing and gives me more faith in your merit!!
So this comment really intrigued me because it hadn't even occurred to me that that was something Larian could do, and I spent a few hours researching Larian and how video game publishing works, so I'm no expert, but here's my two cents. Larian started as a small indie studio and from 1996 to 2012 made deals with larger corporations to publish their games, but then for DOS 1 & 2 Larian handled the PC publishing and only outsourced the console publishing, and for BG3 they did everything in-house. Larian has never published a game made by someone else, but if they wanted to expand into the world of publishing indie games, there's nothing stopping them. Indeed, with the influx of capital from BG3's success they likely have the resources to, and that could be a profitable direction to grow their company, and OLG seems to have a similar philosophy of quality in RPGs, so it could be a natural fit. However, Swen and Larian have never seemed all that interested in chasing profit, so I somewhat suspect they are going to reinvest in their own company and focus on what they do best, which is making games. I somewhat suspect OLG has primarily been focused on courting companies already in the business of publishing games made by indie developers, of which there are many, but there's no reason for them to rule out working with Larian should the latter prove open to it, especially since the name Larian currently garners the sort of goodwill among RPG fans that studios like Bethesda can only vaguely remember. That said, I suspect Larian knows how valuable their reputation is, and probably don't want to risk associating their name with something that they can't guarantee will be up to their standards. I personally have faith that TWR will be amazing, but I'm not the one placing several million dollars on that bet, so I understand why publishers are waiting to see the early access version.
@@huntr5000 Unfortunately that will not be a player option. Grey Elves are not very physically capable, usually very sick and debilitated. So they don't make for good adventurers.

Honest question: If you go and seek out a publisher, won't that jeopardize your vision if the publisher asks of you to do things you originally didn't want to, but will be forced to inject into the game in order to make it more to their liking, as in, for 'a modern audience'?
@@MediaManPower that is a real possibility but we aim to sign with someone who believes in the same vision as us. We actually have already turned down a potential deal because they were asking for things we were not ok with.

What will the combat be like? Will it be like in daggerfall? Or will there be an option to make it more similar to the other Elder Scrolls? I heard that they were planning to add a third-person camera and I guess they would have to add another combat mode.
@@l0y3lg45 Combat rundown: In order to create a unique, fun and rewarding combat system, we have opted to blend modern click-to-attack controls with Daggerfall’s mouse drag controls, with the ability to switch between the two on the fly. It takes a bit of getting used to but can be quite fun once you get the hang of it, even in these early stages. You have your left mouse button to do regular click attacks, and can hold the right mouse button down to focus on an enemy. While focused, you can now hold the left mouse button down and drag the mouse to attack in that direction for more precise attacks. If you do not hold the left mouse button, you can still drag your weapon around to do parries. Sounds a little complex, but it works fairly well, and gives the players the option to play the way they want on the fly. As for taking damage, the idea is that you don't take direct health damage. There is an extra bar in the HUD that is a guard meter. When you get hit, that bar goes down. When your guard is fully depleted, you take actual health damage. That is bad news. It takes a while for your actual health to replenish. Things like being well fed, bandages and other treatments are meant to help that restoration rate go up faster. While your health is down, you become increasingly more susceptible to diseases, illnesses and injuries. All things you want to avoid, not only because they impede you in some way, but because they will take a while to heal, and of course, time is important in our game. There are no health potions, or healing spells, but you don't have to worry too much about that unless you really screw up, your guard goes all the way down, and you take actual health damage. Parries can leave enemies open for attacks, kicks can stun the enemies, same as shield bashes, though it depends on the type of shield you have. Bucklers, for instance, only parry. Third person is still being worked on, so we can't say exactly how well the precision mode will work for that, if at all, so stay tuned for more info on that later down the line.
I've been following this project for a while now, and cannot wait to play this. But I'm also curious - are you still looking for volunteers? The website says not at this time but I thought I'd ask just in case. I am very interested in volunteering / contributing if there's room for more, and can share my portfolio / qualifications privately.
There are a few key positions we still have open, primarily for rigging/animating and senior programmer, preferably with UE5 experience. You can reach out to info@oncelostgames.com
My apologies for asking just in case it has been asked before & I didn't see it: I am already at the Adventurer tier on the Kickstarter. In order to create a unique, fun and rewarding combat system, we have opted to blend modern click-to-attack controls with Daggerfall’s mouse drag controls, with the ability to switch between the two on the fly.
Thank you, I know you said don't, but unfortunately I looked up hairless baboon
Like a war-time PSA on prostitutes. "You like werewolves, do you? Strong, fast, noble? Here: not so noble-looking now, are they?"
oh hell yeah archipelago 2025 lets give it up 👏👏
My apologies for asking just in case it has been asked before & I didn't see it: I am already at the Adventurer tier on the Kickstarter. If possible, could I add another $25 to bump me up to the Squire tier with all the benefits it comes with? I think I read that for the Squire tier, I can get my name put into the end credits of the game as a backer? Or is that aspect of the tier long gone.
You can upgrade at any time before the Kickstarter campaign ends. The Squire tier does get everything the Adventurer tier gets.
