    Enjoyed your mix of American English vs the Queens English. Cracked me up. Also I got a kick out of watching you suffer between SAE and Metric sizes. Your procedure was pretty spot on. One thing I did want to mention was regarding “dirty oil”. Just because the used oil is discolored, does not mean that is is dirty. It’s discolored due to heat, or burnt if you may. There are some good oil reviews on UA-cam that address this issue. It’s worth checking out. It changed the type of oil I use in my Sportster 1200 Custom. My bike (2014) has 6200 miles (10km) on it. I will be doing all of those services over this Winter, plus some other small mods. There is always something as you well know. All the best to you. Enjoyed it.

      Got to cater for the world stage mate 🤣👍. Cheers.. You know, I once did a course on oil contamination , and it surprised me how much foreign material(micro) was in New oil in an unopened container 😬.. But yep, mainly brown from heat etc 👍.. Dont get me started on the thread mix 😀.. Cheers for watching and thanks for the feedback 👍.. enjoy that sporty of yours 👌

    Hi. My bike is a 2016 xl48. Although most original parts changed now. Keeping the bike on trickle charge is the norm on these bikes as can drain when not in use....... im away at moment with about 2o sportsters so keep an eye out for that series soon 👍

    Beautiful bike! What year is this bike? I bought a 2004 xl 1200 custom sportster last week (my first bike) however it didn´t start a couple of days afterwards because of batteryfailure so I´m waiting for a new battery at the moment, so I thought I´d do a service on it at the very least! The tires is pretty bad too so I´m thinking of switching to cobra tires also, they looked really cool on your bike!

    Great video, loved the milk carton tip - will make it much cleaner. I just did my 10k service. The only difference was with the chain setting, they recommend you put the bike in 5th gear and rotate the back wheel so that you can check the tension at various points, otherwise you may end up overtightening the chain. It's a bit of a pain of you don't have a proper bike lift, but you can lift up the back tire with a normal jack.

    • @ALCHEMOTO
      @ALCHEMOTO  4 роки тому

      Cheers 👍. I think I mentioned over it being better on jack, and was going to remove rear wheel but doing that again. And yes , to be absolute sure of measurement, then high gear is correct, but is fine to just take out max slack as it is as long as dont wind adjuster too much. 👍. So yep, cheers 😁👍

    • @ALCHEMOTO
      @ALCHEMOTO  Рік тому

      Cheers Pete 👍. The lettering is just done with a gold tyre paint pen. Usually done with white , I like to be different 😁. Thanks for watching and have a great xmas 🎄👍

    How many quarts of oil did you use for the derby cover part(I’m not sure of the name of that thing)

    • @ALCHEMOTO
      @ALCHEMOTO  3 місяці тому +1

      Hi... transmission housing uses about 1 quart of oil. Usually if you have the derby cover off and fill it direct it is about level with clutch pack so not a great deal goes in there. 👍 Cheers

    Hello, I am writing from Turkey and I am a superlow 1200t user. Here, they recommend full synthetic as engine oil and mineral oil as primary oil. Do you think I should use mineral oil?

    • @ALCHEMOTO
      @ALCHEMOTO  7 місяців тому

      Hi, I use Syn 3 harley oil but plenty of others out there.
      Amsol 20/50 etc you can use in both engine and primary. Best use an oil specifically designed for drivetrains 👍

    Great video but you can't get the old oil out of the crankcase but flushing the tank with new oil...The tank is higher than the crankcase... They do make a kit called the old scavenger I think . I think that's the really the only way to get the oil out of the crankcase on these sportsters... Wish they would put a drain bolt on the crankcase as they do on the primary

    • @ALCHEMOTO
      @ALCHEMOTO  Рік тому

      Thanks 👍. And agree with you on the bottom drain plug. But probably only a couple of ounce of oil left so not really an issue. But does seem like your skipping that final step 👍.. reminds me.. need to get my 15k sorted soon 😁
