They actually had influence for 8 yrs after the end of the war. But that was all it was, influence. They did not call the shots while the emperor was in charge. The emperor was keeping his eye on them and after 8 yrs he decided that their presence could have been detrimental to Ethiopias sovereignty and parted ways with them.

@Random Username Its like saying much of Europe and Germany was under American Colonial possession after the war. Does that make sense? People even go as far to say Ethiopia was colonized by Italy for the 4 year occupation. Does that mean France and other European countries were colonized by Germany? Colonization in general is the Indoctrination of the native mind. That just never happen as all the Italians did in Ethiopia was open a breakfast shop and nothing more.

As for emperor Tewodros he was betrayed by king yohannes 4th who allowed the British to walk in and guide them to strongholds, not that it matters to u much. And I dare u to call him a coward when he was an inspiration to the betrayer yohannes himself by showing him u do not give your country up to the last drop of your blood. I live in Ethiopia, this video is much less biased and much more well informed than most, there are only a few things that were wrong. Ethiopia was never a colony of Italy or England, Abiy is not president, he is prime minister. He did not attack Tigray, the TPLF attacked ENDF members on November 3rd and the government responded. The TPLF were angry ever since he brought their dictatorship to an end. After Abiy declared a ceasefire, the TPLF began to invade the Afar and Amhara regions and have massacred many people, so the ceasefire was called off. And the situation has changed since this video was released. The Ethiopian government has most of the country on its side, a couple days ago, the TPLF tried to come to Addis, but they did not even make it out of Tigray.

The main reason for Ethiopia's non-colonization is the Tigray State, a northern province of Ethiopia. This powerful state called Tigray single-handedly defeated the Ottoman invasion. It has defeated the Egyptian invasion three times. It defeated the first Italian invasion at the Battle of Dogali single-handedly. It defeated the second Italian invasion together with other Ethiopians. This region was called the Axum kingdom in ancient times. It was the fourth superpower of the world, with close ties to the Roman Empire and Greece. India, Persia, Rome, Axum had ancient worlds supper power. The people of Tigray are 99.9% Orthodox Christians. The first bishop of Tigray (Axum) was Saint Athanasius the Greek. Depending who you ask (Ethiopians/Eritreans or the rest of the Ethiopian ethnic groups) the history of their perspective region is told a bit differently. The dates are also a bit different.
In my opinion, no Ethiopian will ever agree with the narrative that we had the British help to defeat the Italians.
The summery you provided in this documentary is not completely accurate but it is a good starter for conversation.
For example, the people (over half million mentioned) who were killed during the Red Terror were predominantly from the Tigray and Eritrea region. This Terror (and truly was a terror) forced the TPLF to become rebels. Millions more were forced to flee their homes and become refugees. Worth mentioning, the Eritreans (TPLF) fought for 30 years to gain their independence from Ethiopia. The TPLP fought for 17 years to free Ethiopia.
FYI, many people outside these 2 regions don’t even know, until today, what really took place in thees 2 regions. For this reason alone, the history in any documentary will need to be different.
For the sake and future of the country, I do hope we find a common ground to solve our deeply rooted issues especially with ethic division and inequality. No government will be able to solve this problem by simply creating a new party. Any solution will need to be based on honest communication and continued dialogue. The choices and the voices of the people in any region will need to have the same weight.
Looking forward for a peaceful new year, September 11.

Wow, so many facts have been omitted and misrepresented. Knowing the history and the current situation this shows me how the west look into other countries with simplified but dangerous assumption.
You missed why king Theodore fought the British and basically why people decide to fight, from the current situation, you knowingly or purposely to omit outside forces and interests that is causing this war more dangerous than it is. To assume all these acronyms represent the tribe is over simplifing or being lazy. TPLF does not Equal to Tigre. If we ever going to simplify all this (which is not right BTW) the war is between TPLF who has been in power for 27 years and a new generation Government that has it's own challenges.
The biggest problem of short news is over simplifying the truth to a point where it makes the listeners think these Aftican people are unreasonable, dumb people who just go to war for no reason. I don't have animosity against the creator, yet the attempt to oversimplify thousands of year's of history in 28 min does more damage than good. Regarding outside force influence, the recent attempts to mediate by US and the news headlines are literally plagiarising of each other from one side. Each country is commenting and assisting has their own agenda, Egypt, China and etc, that is the invisible hand. Of course due to the nature if TPLF majority of its supporters are Tigre, but Tigryans existed before TPLF and will live after TPLF, when there is an assumption the war is against Tigrians it leads to a war far after TPLF lifecycle. When the dust settles the people who are hurting are the poor and marginalized people.
Regarding the prediction please watch the @26 min. “ I don’t want to predict...but... “ and he continued to predict.
A war may last few years but a grievance among people who fought alongside at Adwa and such may last longer than a generation.
Tigians don't need TPLF, TPLF needs Tigrians, but unfortunately TPLF if selling itself for year's that it is their salvation making Tigrians a victim of it's demise and making the rest of Ethiopians think the true enemy is Tigre. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Ethiopian_wars_and_insurgencies_detailed_map
Isaias Afwerki, the Eritrean president also sent further reinforcements (I have provided a link below) in response to Abiy's cry for help, which in itself was borne out of the escalating conflict within TDF's southern front, particularly near Weldiya as it is a strategic location. I am not sure though why the TDF advanced south, rather than completely control the Tigray region first, but I suspect they could have either faced some heavy resistance, or that the terrain along the Tekeze river was very difficult, even for them who are experts at guerilla warfare.

Thanks for the groundnews link. You need to make a correction however: The OLA was not formed in 2021. That is an error. It is an outgrowth of the Oromo Liberation Front formed in 1974. You've also neglected to mention the way that Ethiopia's historic provinces were abolished and replaced with federal states based on ethnicity in 1994. The current conflict could never have existed had ethnic federalism not come into place. Please consider correcting your video to account for this omission.

Thanks for taking time to make this video. I’d like to clarify a few things about some information, specifically about the Oromo and their role in the history, provided in this video:
The OLA was not founded in 2021. It was the armed wing of the OLF founded in the back in the 1970s. They officially separated from the OLF in 2018 so that the OLF can return from exile and participate in the democratic process Abiy had promised when he came to power. The OLA/OLF were one of the key armed groups that worked to topple the communist regime in the 80s and were involved in the negotiations in 1991 until they were essentially double crossed and attacked by the TPLF. The OLA/OLF have been waging a sustained resistance against the TPLF and later the Abiy regime since then. The Oromo group mentioned as being part of the EPRDF, the ODF, was actually referred to the OPDO until very recently. They were not a part of the original group that fought against the communist regime but rather Oromo Nationals recruited (many of whom had held some kind of regional/local power) by the TPLF to “represent” the Oromia region and its people but in reality were TPLF puppets who did the bidding of the TPLF often going against the interests of the people they’re supposed to represent.
Also the national protests that led you the downfall of TPLF rule and the appointment of Abiy as PM in 2018 was started in 2015 by Oromo farmers in response to the Addis Ababa Master Plan which sought to expand the capital city which would result in the displacement of thousands of Oromo farmers in the surrounding areas. These protests spread throughout Oromia and eventually reached other regions as the grievances of protesters broadened to encompass the overall oppressive tactics of the TPLF led government.
While I understand this is a video that focuses on the history that lead to the current war in Tigray, I think it’s important that we don’t spread misinformation about or minimize the role of the Oromo in the overall history. To that end, I’d also encourage you to look more into the brutality of Menelik II and his use of European supplied weapons to decimate the Oromo population in his efforts to expand his empire as well as Haile Selassie’s bombing of Tigray.
    Thanks! And stay curious 🙂

Bro, it was a good historical summary but you’ve messed it up when it comes to when the rebel groups where formed. ELF in Eritrea was formed in 1961. Then EPLF formed as a splinter group from ELF in 1971. Then TPLF came in 1975 four years after EPLF. EPLF( Eritrean and the only party still ruling Eritrea) and TPLF from Tigray became tactical allies against the DERG regime. They EPLF and TPLF also together joined arms and defeated and got rid off the ELF( the first Eritrean front ) in 1981. EPLF( now PFDJ, the brutal dictatorship of Eritrea) formed the Eritrean government in 1991 after its independence, and TPLF created another 3 sister/puppet parties in Ethiopia to form EPRDF governmnet of Ethiopia in 1991. Now the three puppet parties have grown some balls after 27 years and stood up to form the PP party of Abiy Ahmed and fight against TPLF. Relations bwn EPLF and TPLF have sourned in the late 90’s and are now bitter enemies.

TPLF will be buried in Amhara land and Tigray region will be huge graveyard. Tigray’s most males will be eliminated (killed). In this region finding male person will be very rare. At this point Tigrayans will hate being born as Tigrayan. Abiy Ahmed will be removed in very brutal condition. There will another leader who will stay for about 1 to 1 1/2 year. During this time millions of Ethiopians will suffer and millions will be killed. There will not be any peace during this time. Within this period 7 Arab countries backed by 2 powerful Western (more likely European) will send in their soldiers and start attacking the people of Ethiopia and destroying the country’s infrastructure. They will call this peacekeeping mission but, the actual purpose is to destabilize and separate Ethiopia into different small countries. This way it will give them access to control and own Ethiopia’s land which is very rich in natural resources. This is the Western plan. It will NOT work. The slaughtered ethnic group in Ethiopia will win and the New King of Ethiopia will unite all Ethiopians. There will be peace and love through out the country. In long run Ethiopia will even get bigger. Through peaceful process Eritrea and Djibouti possibly Somalia will be part of Ethiopia. Making Ethiopia much bigger country as well as powerful. Ethiopia is different from any other country and the western countries will not have it their way. They don’t even understand why Ethiopia is never colonized. They will pay heavy price because of Ethiopia. Ethiopia and it’s people protecter is much more powerful that they can even imagine.

You've made a lot of critical error in your video but to mention the few:
19:50 You are wrong TPLF did not attack a prepared command position. That would be futile to TPLF as they would be facing a ready army instead they captured multiple military camps throughout the northern region including the HQ in Mekele.
24:15 Wrong prediction the difference between then and now is this rebel coalitions are separatist groups that stand to divide Ethiopia. Kinda strange how you forgot to report the hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians that are joining the central government from all sides and tribes of the country fighting this terrorist groups that "coincidentally" have been killing actual farmers and civilians ever since TPLF was pushed back to its region.
One of the reasons I'd trust the central govt over TPLF is as a citizen you can actually criticize it unlike TPLF which no one dares to not even its own people. Such a feared administration and It just baffles my mind how western media managed to paint such a saintly minority and "freedom fightery" type persona and you guys are eating it up.

Poorly researched, was expecting better from you, especially with the maps, you could've used Ethiopia's federal map that's based on ethnic regions, from this everyone would be able to follow and see how small the Tigrayan region in comparison to the power they held.
Just a note for anyone that doesn't know much about Ethiopia, there are over 80 different ethnic communities with distinct language and culture of their own. Ethiopia is a fake country forced together by the British with the help of other colonial powers of that time. If the Europeans managed to solve the Yugoslavia by letting each ethnic group formed their own country, then similarly Ethiopia will need to be split along ethnicities, it's the only way to avoid the ensuing bloodshed and the genocide that might follow.

-Free our lands from their occupation of 20 years?

      The facts are
      - it was us who freed Tigray from a 6 centuries almost 7 centuries of Amhara colonization.
Since 10 or 11th century until 1991, Tigray was under direct Amhara colonization.
Not only that, we even gave them the driving seat of Ethiopia.
-Granted them free and unrestricted access to our ports.
      But what did they do?
      Go see 1998-2000 events
And the period from 2000 until 2020.
The words you've mentioned shouldn't be said to us but Tigrayans and their foolish policies in the past 3 decades they chose short term gains in shewa and US servitude over a life time gain by friendship with the single and most closest neighbors they ever have.

Your report is ridiculously biased and it is very clear that it is not because of lack of research. You are intentionally putting small but very serious remarks that are incorrect for e.g you tried to explain the unwillingness of the tplf to join the Prosperity party by making a joke of the name, they didn't join b/c the party they had created (tplf) was based on racial lines like every region had its own party the oromo, tigri, amhara, somali, Afar and some more but the main problem was some minorities like gambela people, benshangul people were not involved in the decision making and they were given the name subordinates in their own country so abiy thought that if a Democratic govt is going to be created it must include everyone and it must not be based on racial lines and created a new party but the tplf leaders refused to be part and left. The other very major mistake you made was when you talked of the Ethiopian government provoking a conflict by stationing troops on the border b/n tigri and amhara region and also inviting Eritrea on the other side but that is wrong, if you if you had seen the tigri tv before the war you could see the regional gov then showing military parades and as for the eretrian troops the went into Ethiopian territory after missiles were launched on their capital asmera bybyt the tplf.

    1. Ethiopia 🇪🇹 Wasn’t in British colonial
    2. “Shelling the cities to capture them” and “killing of Tigray people especially Ethiopians, Eritreans and Amharas” you got that totally wrong. The Ethiopian government only shelled after the went to desert which they have 1000+ military in custody. Got released with no to little casualties. Ethnic cleansing was committed by TPLF on Amhara, Afar and even in Tigrayans who doesn’t support TPLF. You have even mention 1 which is MayCadra more that 1600+ Amhara got killed by TPLF raised group Samir youth group who flee to Sudan as a migrant.
    3. Capture of MEKELLE by TPLF: because of outside pressure and it’s time to harvest and the Ethiopian government got their weapons back from the rebels group it’s time for peace and end of war.
You’re great Hilbert, but you’re making silly mistake that is very important. Keep digging because all I see is highlight. It’s very complicated to be highlighted Hilbert.
