Well that’s nice but it’s a bit fictional to talk about African as a real cohesive identity. Unless this guy is from Ethiopia, it is still a foreigner telling a story and I am sure a lot of ethio’s will bitterly contest some of the story he is telling. ‘African narrating an African story’ does sound nice. And he is a great story teller
My dad spoke highly of him . I never knew the man. But an Armenian gentleman told me that his grandfather along with 49 other Armenian orphans were adopted by the king and gave them food , shelter, and a good education.
as a proud Ethiopian i want to express my huge respect for the team behind this channel....well researched, reliable and wisely organized..ይሀ ትክክለኛ የአፍሪካ ሚዲያ ነው meaning true African media
And I love the fact Ethiopia has really tried to keep to in it's original self with little influence from the western World; calenders, language, alphabets etc.
As a Nigerian i have heard several verses of King Haile Selassie. but the fascinating truth about him was that he was destined by GOD for the mission and then He bring awareness to scattered African Countries and also invented civilization of self recognition to Africans during his Era. He created a united Africa against colonization and invaders. I pray GOD almighty to bring his likes in Nigeria. now we are not under colonial rule but under their manipulation through our politically elected democratic rulers.we need more GOD help in Africa.
What strikes me most about this channel is how unbiased it is. It's such a rare thing to find such unbiased modern media. It is also so well researched, narrated, and composed.

Yes even in the twenty first century David will continue to slay Goliath! 😊 All glory to the MOST HIGH GOD; for it is God who raised up his servants to defend the Throne of David. The MOST HIGH will not force himself on his people but they will soon stretch forth their hearts and hands unto GOD. GOD IS NOT MOCKED. This is delusional perspective on the reign of the Throne of David, the Solomonic Dynasty over Ethiopia, under the shadow of the ALMIGHTY as One Sovereign Christian Nation, obeying the laws and principles of the Most HIGH JAH. Why do you not talk about how HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY built up the infrastructure of Ethiopia? Why do you not talk of the schools that he built?. Why do you NOT speak of the universities that he built; bringing free education to the people of Ethiopia? Why this skewed perspective of where Ethiopia stood with regard to the rest of the African continent... they were far advanced in a building of roads and infrastructure under the rule of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I. Why not speak on all of the amenities that were put into place by the Solomonic Dynasty, this ruling class and His Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I. Why do you not speak the TRUTH on how his majesty Emperor Haile Selassie, with an educated and strong Nation, built through the powers of the Most HIGH, brought Ethiopia into the Modern Age of technological advancements. Why do you not mention that? 🤔 there is a thing called sellouts, like those that took advise against the Ethiopian Monarchy of the Solomonic Dynasty; that kept Ethiopia undefeated and Sovereign for over 3,000 years; it came from European powers without, that bought their influence to a rebellious generation influenced by lies and false propaganda against the Throne. European powers could not defeat the Throne of David or the solomonic Dynasty's is rule over Ethiopia from without; so they attempted to infiltrate and come in as they are doing to this day. Prophecies are fulfilling, it is all playing out before our eyes like an Epic Movie. The Throne of David is forever and the kingdom of God will reign on Earth. Spoiler alert... God wins in the end.😊
What His Imperial Majesty did to his country and Africa was nothing less than a miracle. When we pass judgment about any particular leader, we have to see things in a holistic approach. Good documentary, with missing some key facts Observations: 1. Haile Selassie - even during his challenging days, was never a big proponent of torture. Even people who are not his fans can attest to that (even during the time when the young revolutionaries were on the verge of toppling him, only one university student got killed). Please compare his precedessors. Night and day. 2. 1974 hunger was more prevalent in Wello (Amhara region) than to Tigray 3. External forces had played key role in the background toppling of the king. Please read Henry Kissinger's plan and strategy in CIA declassified documents 4. The story about his lavish 80th birthday versus the famine story has been greatly exaggerated both internally and externally to damage his name forever. Overall Haile Silassie is widely respected by most Ethiopians whether they love him or hate him.. because he was a wiseman who was in the reign of power when Ethiopia needed a man like him. He had several shortcomings, however most of it is due to hundreds years of issues in social dynamics that resulted deposing monarchs in Africa, Europe and elsewhere. Please read CIA declassified documents. I am not able add a link here.

It's worth thinking about that the Emperor would've been aware, due to his times, of the fallen, ignoble state of the many European kings deposed and in exile during and after World War I. It would have stuck with him, seeing former rulers like himself living in relative penury on "another's brass" in a permanent state of ever-thinner hope. His short period of the same state would've cemented his resolve to never give up his throne voluntarily, knowing the life that awaited him if he did. It's impossible to know the Emperor as a man, their lives are different from birth; but It's fair to surmise that the 20th century Golgotha of monarchy in general was often on his mind; and he would do whatever he could to evade it.
Interesting. I've always wondered about the origins of the Rastafari movement. As an atheist, I don't agree with any religious doctrine, but can understand how the Jamaican people must have felt immense pride in a dignified emperor representing their race and so respected around the world.

I love history from everywhere. It helps save us all from the hubris of absorbing cartoon natures as projected from afar by both of ourselves and others, as truth lay somewhere in the center of extremes. I do sincerely wish a fair measure of joy in your lives going forward.
Right. Like, I’m right here waiting to be worshipped. Oh, right that’s making you subservient again. Guess I’ll go get adoration from Europeans then🤷🏽♂️
Thanks for keeping the legacy of Haile Selassie alive for the next generation of people of color so that they can recognize the true nobility of our biblical heritage. Salute!

Aw man, I love your channel and your videos, especially this one. I remember being real young and hearing about the Derg in Ethiopia and my grandma (who was supposedly either Russian or from the Ottoman Empire) said Ethiopia once had an emperor, just like Russia and Turkey but that he was overthrown by his own people. This was more or less in response to me asking what the Derg were because it was announced on TV that their regime collapsed. I remember my grandma saying "They're Orthodox, like us, but also not like us." And like, little boy me didn't understand ANY of that concept.
Ooooohhh, look at all those gems👀
Your grandmother sounds like she was most likely Armenian.
Why are we such Sycophants. The racists can tell us anything and we believe it. We are too destroyed to think or ask questions. Who saw Jesus walk water Who saw him raise from the grave? Why are the racists running from those who are not chasing them? Why are they in need to interview others? Why have the racists white supremacists frightened by skin? Why are the Christen always ready to help those who need no help?
Why are we so evil that we are against the helpless?

Hi Jesse
Rastafarians do have a land Ethiopia around Shashemne. The new generation of Ethiopia mostly sees Judah as a part of our history and for the image he held as King. When our history is mentioned we can't help it but feel proud even though mistakes were made, he was still our king.
This dark history of Ethiopia is what the Amhara nationalists wants to bring back. I’ll assure you that won’t happen anytime soon. Many ppl who weren’t Christians were forced into Christianity. I’m sorry to say this but Ethiopia civil war will be worse than Rwanda.

Good documentary, with missing some key facts
Observations:
1. Haile Selassie - even during his challenging days, was never a big proponent of torture. Even people who are not his fans can attest to that (even during the time when the young revolutionaries were on the verge of toppling him, only one university student got killed). Please compare his precedessors. Night and day.
2. 1974 hunger was more prevalent in Wello (Amhara region) than to Tigray
3. External forces had played key role in the background toppling of the king. Please read Henry Kissinger's plan and strategy in CIA declassified documents
He actually didn't have any shortcomings.
Dude, he literally rounded up critics and imprisoned them in the infamous ''Alem Bekagn'' prison. He did torture, just like every other authoritarian did.

As an Italian I am still incredibly ashamed of my country's colonial history. Luckily, the Partisans's liberation from fascism saved it a little, and yet, even for that part of history, we must also thank all the Ethiopian partisans who fought here and helped us liberate our country!
Unfortunately for many things we still have to really deal with the History and seeing the reality of our country today, i'm sad seeing how little accountability we tooked
indeed because Italy gov refuse to pay us compensation for the 35000 FAMILES GAZED overnight and killed ! there is no mention of that even in the school book ! Italy did us so much damage but yet after the victory, HIM chose to pardon them and they were allowed to live safely in our country ! I checked italian history book the way the history is narrated there is even false not acknowledging the real act of war crime committed on us! One day we will expose when a true real leader will come in Ethiopia !
It's good to have such information about Africa to keep our memories alive, leaders of our time should emulate him and make sure that no chance given to chines , Americans and European to control our resources. Africa has a very big chance to develop and build the great Africa we want, and that is if we are united we can make it, we greatly miss you haile Selassie piece be to Africa our mother land

As a lifelong fan of Jamaican music and the general philosophy of artists like Bob Marley and The Wailers, The Heptones, Prince Buster, Lee “Scratch” Perry, etc., this is undoubtedly a very valuable source of historical evidence, and also a wisened tribute to what you accurately describe as “the enigma of Haile Selassie.” Much thanks again.
Mathew 24:34 to 24 36
“ Verily I say unto you, this generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled .. heaven and earth shall pass away , but my words shall not pass away …but of that day and of that hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven, but my father only ..
In Haile selassie victory speech when he defeated the Romans:
“ On this day which men of earth and angels in heaven could neither have foreseen nor known, I give thanks unutterable by the mouth of man to the living God who has enabled me to be present among you today’
How can Haile Selassie know what the angels and man could not foresee ??

Thank you bro, all Kings make mistakes and he is no exception. I am sure there were great Kings and Queens who reigned before him on the motherland. However, he represented Royalty from the motherland to the world stage, being received by other Kings and Queens of the world says alot about Him. For that, I appreciate and respect him. May his soul rest in peace.
Name one mistake he made.
He was a collaborator; That is why they received him so admirably. He was the only African leader ( with his father and grandfather, Menelik) to participate in the partition of Africa. The Haile Selassie kingdom was located on the landlocked highlands of current Ethiopia, and it expanded to ten fold when the Europeans started conquering Africa. @@JahRastafari89 so why disturb what she believes if your fearless leader already gave you his orders?🤔
@@the2ndcoming135 The Emperor didn't hesitate to answer questions about himself. In this instance Haile Selassie was answering a specific question about his own divinity in 1966. For example he disturbed the Rastafarians' belief about him being the reincarnation of Christ aboard the Canadian Royal Train in 1967 when he stated that he told Rastas to stop making that mistake. That specific belief dumbfounded him and he offered prompt correction as it pertained to his own person. However according to the Bible it's not God's duty to personally correct every single aspect of every false religion, for this purpose he sent forth his only begotten son (1 John 3:8). The Bible describes God the Father as a literal political sovereign, king and monarch who is the King of Kings politically and Lord of Lords provincially; whereas Christ is described as a prophet, preacher and high priest who teaches humanity proper theology.
Emperor Haile Selassie was really a great son of African soil who bequeath the greatness to the present day Nigeria as Giant of Africa

I'm an Ethiopian.
A truly excellent documentary. Thank you from Cape Town South Africa 🌹🇿🇦
Interesting. I've always wondered about the origins of the Rastafari movement. As an atheist, I don't agree with any religious doctrine, but can understand how the Jamaican people must have felt immense pride in a dignified emperor representing their race and so respected around the world.
