Go inside one of the greatest-ever untold stories: how the ordinary people of America were given the opportunity to make records for the first time. - Розваги
The whole series "American Epic" was phenomenal. What a rich and proud history of Music the USA has all due to its diversity. I recommend two other equally powerful music documentaries that really educate you as to how all of these genres came to exist. "Rumble how the Indians rock the world" and PBS "Latin Music USA" all excellent. The root of all American music comes from NATIVE AMERICANS which is something most people don't know about. We all believe it comes from African roots when in reality it was African slaves that discover the wailing chants of Native women. There is a whole ugly history as how those 2 groups of people merged and why and the result was a tapastry of beautiful music from gospel to jazz to rnb to blues to country to rock.
Their voices compliment each other so well, great track!
Agreed!
from pitchfork "In the scene, John is asked to improvise a new song from lyrics that his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin handed him. John leads on piano, White accompanies on guitar, and their performance is recorded straight to wax."
Pasquale Cicarella hey how'd u know the back story? Taupin's been whim since the start. I used to stare at his pix inside the album...can't remember which. Bitch Is Back?
there was a making of documentary for this that was featured on pitchfork. i put quotes around it because it was a direct quote from the site :)
Amazing!
The genesis of the song can be seen in the full episode. Elton comes in and gets introduced all around. Then T-Bone Burnett sits down next to Elton at the piano in the studio as he tries out some chords and melodies using a sheet of Taupin lyrics, and gives him feedback on his ideas. Jack White comes in and sits down with them and also gives feedback as the song gets written. Then Elton asks Jack if he wants to play on the song. They run through it a bit in rehearsal, with Elton guiding Jack through the backing vocal harmony part. Right after that, Bernie Taupin enters the room and gets introduced by Elton. Then Elton and Jack record it together, which is the part shown in the video. Personally, I think the part not shown in this video is the most interesting part, watching the song being written. The full episode, American Epic, Season 1, Episode 4, can be rented or purchased for a few bucks on the typical media sites.
Feels like a throwback to Tumbleweed connection and his late 60's/early 70's demo sessions.
Sharon Micucci yup!
Elton still sounds epic.
Been waiting eagerly for this since the pairing of these two was announced. Elton outdoes himself, and Jack is stellar as always. If you haven't seen Elton live, jump at your next chance, cuz he won't be around much longer, possibly. He still puts on 3 hours of solid hits, and never phones it in.
Wow!!! The gifts keep on coming. We will never see another like him!!! Long Live Elton John...wow!!
OMG! 2 of my fav musicians, 2gether jammin! Where can I watch more? More! More! More!
I literally have listened to this probably 30-40 times already can play and sing 80% of this on guitar and I just found it last night. That is one AWESOME song, and the convection/execution both John & White display. Jeeze what a EPIC moment. Haha
I am glad I'm not the only one!! I had my headphones plugged into my phone and listened to it about 4 times in a row ~ it is really AWESOME in every way
Amazing, Elton and Bernie have done it again. Classic song.
This is TOO incredible! How great is this!!! Head shaking, foot stomping, fingers tapping - and I'm at the LIBRARY!
Oh my goodness this is so precious and rare. ❤
Worlds collide! When true talent gets unleashed! Nothing better than seeing and hearing these "small sessions". Love music this way!❤
It's reassuring to see positive comments here with likeminds. I've probably listened to this 40 times, it's so incredible. I shared it on Facebook and got 2 likes. lol. WHY CAN'T THEY SEE THE TALENT...Jack white and Elton John both are amazing. I just love this whole idea of recording on 1920's equipment. But I agree with someone else who asked, by a comment someone made, was this improvised???
Exactly, I can not believe that this video only has 1K of likes, people have no idea what they are missing...

I find it hard to believe Elton just turned 70. You sure he ain't some 50 year old in 70 year old man costume? 'Cause he sure sounds (and looks) a whole deal younger! This rocks!
You can see part of this performance in trailers from 2015.It was shot in early 2014 or late 2013.
Thank you for the clarification. Some source posted this yesterday and made it seem like it was brand new. It was kinda crazy.
It is new,in the sense that it airs for the first time next week.
How many beers is that in dog years?
This is taken from American Epic is a great documentary. One of the best music documentaries I have ever watched.
Effin' hell, this one is incredible. wooohooo!
Best thing Eltons done since Tumbleweed Connection. Brilliant.
His voice! wow fantastic performance

Excellent cover, of great American Black music.

“Two fingers of whiskey thats all i need to keep drowning the devil living in me”
this sounds great! why didnt they use these recordings on the pbs show? this is what the cd sounds like.
The tv sound is modern recording, i don't get it.
Is this whole thing improvised?
Anyone know what guitar is Jack playing there?
Kay K125
the amp would be interesting also . .
I wish Jack could have played with 1971 Elton John
its better with 2013 elton ngl more grit and depth in the voice
could fit on exiles
80 days sober
Elton still has the magick!
Have you guys heard this other version of this tune? It kills ua-cam.com/video/p2QZcqdPaY0/v-deo.html
It's like his soul is from Louisiana or something.
I'm a big White's fan, but, as I can see, he totally spoiled this record))))
Just dirty enough to taste good
well, this is the worst thing I've heard in years.
Notice nobody liked your comment in 5 days....see yourself out Sir.
Stephen Hawking, don't ever take up a brief moment in my history again with your rubbish.
