Massive kudos to Jack White for not only taking this song to a whole new, haunting, level, but for being secure in his manhood to not change the lyrics.
Since the original comment mentioned being sucure in his manhood I imagine they mean changing the lyrics to something like Joey instead of Jolene and please don't take my woman. As a male singer the lyrics as written it could be taken as him being in a relationship with a bisexual man who was being pursued by Jolene.
One of the most important bands of the new millennium came and went, and no where near enough people batted an eyelid. The White Stripes. Jack White doesn’t just sing and play music, he allows himself to get infected by the music.
It's already realized now. Rolling stone ranked him the 13th best guitarist of all time a while back . He's also in a documentary called "it might get loud" with The Edge and Jimmy Page.
+Todd Twilley I agree. Dave Grohl gets all of the attention, but in my opinion Jack white is just as talented and willing to risks that other artists aren't. He basically brought Loretta Lynn out of retirement and won her a grammy for his trouble. Very talented and prolific musician and those things don't always go together.
iv had the dream to see them since i was like 7 or 8. i thought maybe when im older i could, but then the band i had loved so much as a child had come to an end. I would still love to see jack or the raconteurs still!!!! but if only i was able to see the white stripes in the early to mid 2000s like i wanted to when i was in grade school :')♡
Said that 6 years ago I see. He's got a line up of like 30 cities, US and Europe. God willing and no Covid shut down, you can still catch him. He is awesome and an awsome person, too.
i don't think i've ever felt this way about a song before. and the way he sings it OH MY GOD! so much emotion. you've got to be a real man to sing "I'm begin' of you, please don't take my man". Jack White is amazing.
And also the fact that on Nirvana and white stripes versions their voices are deseparete like it's allá over, while on the original they still hace hope
I love this version so much, he has poured so much emotion in the performance that it transmits through to the viewer. Jack is brilliant and the way that the white stripes have chosen to play everything so simplistic is amazing.
Love to hear Jack sing, play & his memorizing trances of musical insight! If a person can sing from shadows of a soul-it is Jack:) A true musician has no apprehensions, reservations or care to input because when you bring it from the soul-lives change for those who listen and feel the music & nothing is the same again because of a song's performance.I get shivers, tears, and envy listening to him playing this! Soul is alive in music & he has a name-Jack White is the man!
OMG WOW !! That is truely an awesomely brilliant rendition of Jolene :). Passionate, emotional, excellent vocals, just superb and i can't praise them high enough.
A singer/music man that actually cares about what they sing and play. And does both rather well, whilst considering emotion. Well played Jack. You have earned your thumbs up from me. Who's with me?
This song wouldn't be as good as it is without Meg's drumming ripping through the song. There's more than one way of playing the drums and I love how Meg plays. Compliments Jack's singing and playing so well.
I had never heard that song in my life, not until yesterday!!!!! Oh my God, I love this version so much!!!! And Jack is so unbelievably good!!!!! Can't stop hearing it!!!!
I was mad and shocked when the audience didn't erupt at the first word. Even if you didn't know The White Stripes had a cover of this song when you hear her name, you know the song. Then I realized the crowd had been stunned silent; through the whole first verse, no crowd noise. That's a pretty unmistakable sign of a virtuoso at work.
When you saw this live and it still sends shivers down your spine then you just know this was a cover that was beyond special. One of the very few bands over the years where the live was far better than thd studio and a great time to be a fan.
I just cried all the way through this passionate and tortured rendition. I'm straight. You're a beautiful man Jack, and I'm proud to say so. Thank you.
The first and def best ALT VERSION of Dolly's Jolene. Not everyones cup of tea but loving the original and mileys version this is a welcome change of style and pace yet still keeping the female element present well done !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Came here because of Meg (ranked in the Rolling Stone late list) who I always considerer as a (very) bad drummer .. this sequence right here is breathtaking I'm so high And so happy
+Luc ky her drumming might not be very difficult, but that doesnt mean shes a bad drummer. Simple would be a better word to categorize her drumming skills. Either way it works really well with jacks guitar playing.
Massive kudos to Jack White for not only taking this song to a whole new, haunting, level, but for being secure in his manhood to not change the lyrics.
😁How would you change the lyrics?
Like Garnetta Rickett sings, (instead of using the original lyrics) “please don’t take my man,” she changes them to “please come to get my man?"
Since the original comment mentioned being sucure in his manhood I imagine they mean changing the lyrics to something like Joey instead of Jolene and please don't take my woman. As a male singer the lyrics as written it could be taken as him being in a relationship with a bisexual man who was being pursued by Jolene.
@@rayla1780 daft question
I guess he also gave the song a whole new meaning, an oppressive girlfriend, idk. Actually maybe that doesn't fit.
When Dolly Parton sings it theres some kind of hope..... When Jack sings it sounds like its over...... pure desparation in his voice
Fuckinright
That’s a stolen comment
when Miley sings it you feel sorry for the guy...
@@sirmatthewiii Glad to see I'm not the only that noticed.
Gideon Quist he doesn’t know how to let himself show thru in that moment. He’ll learn from it. He’s totally disconnected from the song.
I still can't comprehend how they get such a sound from just drums, one guitar and one voice.
howard mckenna i was wondering the same thing :)
Check Royal Blood, sure you'll like

Yea man
👏👏👏
hes like a character from a tim burton film, i love it
And he's knows that, and isn't, and that's why he's cray cray!
Maybe cuz he looks kinda' like Edward..?! 🤔
He's like Jack White.
kah- like one off the '''baboon's rideing one off the horses in planet off the Animal's,''
A combination of Tim Burton & Dr. Seuss
One of the most important bands of the new millennium came and went, and no where near enough people batted an eyelid. The White Stripes.
Jack White doesn’t just sing and play music, he allows himself to get infected by the music.
We are so lucky to be alive at the same time Jack White is. He is a musical genius. That will not be realized by the masses until decades from now.
👍
There's no denying that Jack White is a fucking genius.
It's already realized now. Rolling stone ranked him the 13th best guitarist of all time a while back . He's also in a documentary called "it might get loud" with The Edge and Jimmy Page.

+Todd Twilley Even Jimmy fucking Page said he was the future of guitarists or some shit.
Jack's interpretation is so heartbreaking and amazing!
I'm close to tears and my stomach hurts lol
Hands down the best version of this song. Get chills every time I hear it.
Miley Cyrus does a pretty good job too to be fair
@@debbiewilcox8890 she does it okay. Jack squeezes every bit of emotion out of every line.
@@debbiewilcox8890Myley is alleged to have spent time with Epstein
Amazing ❤
100%согласен!!!!
The best way to describe Jack White singing is, he literally feels the song with his throat.
Um...not sure what you’re trying to say there.
Gay
Thanks for making this song even more gay ...
SOunding like shit is meant to be art? Oh.
I was thinking the same thing you can see the muscles in his neck working it, very powerful singer
Jolene: Holy shit dude, I didn't know he meant so much to you. Keep him, I've done enough damage already!!
I like Jack White's cover here. He really transforms the anguish in the original to insanity/obsession. Great job.
What is insane is that cover.
+El Moustache His voice, playing, acting. He really feels, no live the song!..
The

Nick Wood great comment
Yes! Well said!
Nobody covers Jolene like Jack White he sings it with the right emotions and I love the way he makes that guitar cry.
It is ridiculous how in love I am with this rendition
Holy Christ! What raw power and emotion he sings with..
So amazingly emotive. I can feel the pleading desperation.
joe johnson this is good, but watch the blackpool lights one. It's still TWS, but he puts even more emotion in it
agreed, the Blackpool lights one had more insanity to it
4th commandment
The best version you can find ! 🤘
This is the kind of band I would've loved to see live...
Jack still does solo concerts/raconteurs
I did see them live back in the days, it was awesome!!!!
the best. i've seen hundreds of concerts and they were at the top.

Notice the huge crowd of people all mesmerized by the voice of a true artist singing from the heart giving no fucks what anyone there thinks
This has the same energy as Nirvana playing Where Did You Sleep Last Night
Wow, that's so true! That deep sadness.
And also the fact that on Nirvana and white stripes versions their voices are deseparete like it's allá over, while on the original they still hace hope
@@verde1120 You're absolutely right
not my typical preferred genre but this version is fucking bad ass! good job Jack.
I was 17 I was here my dad didn’t wanna see white stripes never heard of them talked him into it glad I did
I don't know about anyone else, but I would be completely speechless if I were to experience this performance live...
He sings like his heart was just scorched with acid. Genius.

It's crazy how over 100 people mistook "dislike" for "dis I like"

Nope. No mistake.
Chris O'Neil You’re OK great song and Jack White is awesome for not changing the gender
Very nice
@@markpettis2896 thats the coolest thing about his cover. Yous a smart guy for pointing it out

This is putting your soul into a song.
What a powerful vocal performance!!
I love how Meg just loses herself in the music,
damn, i never noticed what a great singer he is…. he really puts a lot of emotion into it that the original lacks. very nice
You should forget about Jolene, She's done the same thing to Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus and who knows how many more
And Justin McElroy

It was a great and heart felt performance by Jack. I feel this crowd didn't appreciate how good Jack's performance was.
I feel like not enough people now a days respect this type of talent and it’s sad. People like Jack White were born to make music
The amount of emotion he puts in to this song, is exactaltwhy Jack White is the greatest thing to happen to music in 20 years.
Surely the greatest cover version of any song ever
jack was born only to listen to the perfect dolly parton's song, and make even better.
He's coming to Mexico on october, can't wait to see him!!
