You always do a good job of putting interviews together to show a connection between them all.

One thing I don't know if can ever be fully appreciated is the notion of a life with no sets. Sets are so entrenched they define gang life is LA. Like trying to imagine a life without cell phones, and I'm 55. Its hard for me to imagine/remember that yes, there was a time when you couldn't just call somebody. Like when Kev leaves Vegas for the Land, you really wouldn't be able to reach him, to talk to him, unless and until he returned.
when S Mac asked a great question, do you think Phillip started the VSC, and Melvin responded there were already Crips there in Venice, but Westside, really what he was saying (and you get this from Barefoot Pookie too) not only were there no sets, but we we'ren't even thinking in terms of sets, i.e., separation. And as Kody Scott explained, any separation was pliable if it existed in the first place. "That is what made this shit so hard." MK

He was a praying man I got to know in 78 I was in the 6 grade at the The Academy Christian center on on Manchester right off of Crenshaw. He was a youth Sunday school teacher he would always give us testimony about how the streets put them in a chair and that God was a better alternative. We would always ask him where he was from he would just smile and say he was in Gods gang.I was a member of that church from 78 to 94 and he was always there A real good man 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

Kev we just performed at a festival in California the Joshua tree music festival in Joshua tree California. We got off the flight at lax. We had 1 hotel on La cienega and We had hotel on century st. there’s a motel 6 next to the bridge we walked under. We from New Orleans tho. We was Jwalkn and in Nola people don’t kno what that is. So we walked to the corner to cross at the light but we started talking. Man I told my Potna not to wear no football hats. Nope he don’t listen. He got a red Ny Yankees hat on I’m not really thinking about it tho. Maaaaaaaaan a car pull up dude had to be at least 50. Dude lk man y’all gone respect the set y’all niggas tripping. I asked if I’m tripping is he talking to us? Man my other Potna say ah yeah I think so. So I look again dude saying y’all gone get merked then pulled off fast asf. We just walked off but say round dude looked lk he most definitely got an AARP CARD. Man that’s what 50yr old grown ass men do out there. Man we got our lives threatened by a senior citizen
