Fun fact number 2. Eaton actually made a 3 speed rear end also consisting of a bogie with 2 speed diffs. Shift 1 to high then the second to high giving you 3 speeds in the rear.
Mike sure made that look easy. When I was a kid, my Dad bought a used mini-wheeler dump with a twin-stick 5&4. Unloaded he didn’t split shifts, fully loaded / over, it was underpowered, so he hit most all of them. After three or four shift cycles, he’d already broken out in a sweat and I remember him looking a bit like he was playing whack-a-mole when trying to find those gears. 😂
Not a trucker here and live in the UK, but love watching and listening to big dad. I worked with an EX trucker from texas(hauled cattle all over) for 14 years, the roughest, toughest, grumpiest, kindest, funniest, most helpful man I've ever met or ever had the pleasure of working with. We worked in probably one of the worst jobs imaginable together, and everyday on shift with that man was a pleasure. When he died it was one of the saddest days ever, but his funeral was one of the best celebrations of life ever. When his wife pulled out letters that he'd written to his closest friends and included me I was utterly shocked, his letter simply stated.....To Shaun, best man I've ever worked with, the only one I trusted with my life on the daily. Get back to work, and pay them bills. Big Al.
Grind it till you find it! This isn't directed at Mike, but I get a kick out of southerners shifting like they're out for a Sunday drive, moving the stick for splits and going on vacation between the gears. Over here in the Canadian Rockies we can pull 140,000 lbs through the mountains... Let me tell you, it's an entirely different experience. Box Canyon hits 10%, hitting a range change on that sucker is always fun. To y'all that don't do a lot of grades, you're not missing much, it's really not that fun.
There are 8 gears with a high and low function for each, plus a low and high version of the low gear, making a total of 18 speeds, not counting the 4 reverse gears.
Damn big dad your awesome i was trained on that same tranny way back in 94 when I started driving!!! Keep the videos rolling and that damn road hot!!!! Fym!!! Stay safe out there BIG DAD!!!
Smooth operator, my grandfather told me he drove a truck way back and it had 2 sticks, one was the range and the other has the gears. He said you needed 3 arms to shift and drive hahaha. I drive a gutless automatic for an LTL company.
My Cascadia has an 18-speed with 3.55 Rears, splitting the bottom side is completely useless, I only do it in stop and go traffic otherwise I just treat it like a 13 speed. Nicest thing with that setup is I can go 75 miles an hour a hair over 1400 RPM
Well I don't own the company so I have no say in what they buy and also I'm making 90k year home daily in an auto idgaf if you think I'm a wheel holder 😂, by the time you hit 18 I'm 5 miles down the road
Splitting every gear *starts in 3rd*. Most times you do not need 1st and second and they are labeled as lo on the shifter. But this is a great tutorial. I was wondering when you can move the splitters and seems like once you split with the air shifter if it's in gear it doesn't move out of gear if you are on the throttle. Good to know you do not NEED to be in neutral on an 18 speed to play with the splitters. You can set the shifter before you move it.
High range LO? Same ratio as 4th. Heard some people use it on 13's, but apparently you can grenade the transmission? I dunno. My old logging mentor used it, I've used it in the past but don't anymore.
I drive a manual mustang and with this video seems really easy . Basically each gear is 2? You just split when the rpm’s ask then then on to the next….. we’re you clutching ? Or floating
Let me see if i follow. You start in LOW. Shift 1, tyen split, 2 then split, 3 then split etc. When you're done with LOW, youbgo into HIGH, and rinse and repeat? I want to get into it, i drive manuals, but i think its going to ve tricky especially to downshift, and unsplit, go from high to low ... Can you do a vid on downshifting. If you did one ill go look for it. Thanks!!
Why do some people jump into neutral and then back into gear when splitting? Does it have any actual benefit or are they just doing it because they think it looks cool?
Because the clutch is only used to go into 1st or reverse, you want to hang in neutral till your rpms are just right so you don't have any grinding. I don't drive trucks, but that's what common sense tells me.
Lmao. Looked for a video of how to… Man! thanks for the instruction. My common sense was not wrong! Did it somehow the right way… 1L all the way to 4L then jump to 5L to 8L and ended up to 8H. I find it quicker to avoid shifting a lot with the previous “explanation”. 😅 Does that happen a lot in trucking lifestyle? If it does, it’s for me. I freaking love driving! Looking forward to get a CDL after I learn how to drive on American Truck Simulator. 😂 Keep on trucking! 🫡
Fun fact. Eaton invented the 2 speed rear end so you could hear the turbo spool twice as much. Come on back.

Nice
I heard you driver
The shit I wanna learn, instead Ive become a greasy sloppy door dummy mechanic
I like this video because you don’t do a lot of unnecessary talking and go straight to the point. Good job
I agree with you. I learn a lot from him. No trash talking. Thank you! Iron mike.

Where did you work with Shaun at? The UK?

Sometimes feel like I'm gonna rip the shifter off the top of the trans!
Grades and big weights takes skillz. Hats off to ya bud. Stay safe
140k at 10% is wild. Ill go up it, idk about down it... haha.
In canada we dont play games 😂
I counted 32. But I quit school in grade 2 to manage a trailer park
A 2nd grader has got to do what a man's got to do!
Thicc chicks...

@@toothlesstoe8x2 equals 16 idk where you got 18 from
I couldn't be that smooth in an automatic 🤣. Nice job sir
She sounds so good 🇺🇸💪. We respect the way you handle your rigg
Damn big dad your awesome i was trained on that same tranny way back in 94 when I started driving!!! Keep the videos rolling and that damn road hot!!!! Fym!!! Stay safe out there BIG DAD!!!
Best video by far none of them show you how to do it they just tell you
I love the way you split geer please make another video again.

Best example video ive seen short simple ans too the point
Smooth like butter c’mon
Dude that turbo sound is crazy
Truck sounding good!!! Smooth shifting!

Nice and smooth shifting
FYM Saturday! C'mon back!
EVERYTIME I WATCH THIS DUDE ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT IS THE MOVIE "THE DEVIL'S REJECTS" AND THE CHICKEN SCENE.
My legs started to cramp when I seen that cab. 😂
Breaker 1/9,,,,Big Dad Keeping it real! Come on Back!
Bro, these new drivers
"steering wheel holders" push or slide it into D, and they are off terrorizing the roads 😂
Well I don't own the company so I have no say in what they buy and also I'm making 90k year home daily in an auto idgaf if you think I'm a wheel holder 😂, by the time you hit 18 I'm 5 miles down the road
No bs, just straight to it.
Nice job there , big dad . I would like to see you have a go with the Eaton twin split
I wish I could get ahold of 1 bro
Good video, I like the super 10 myself. It must be a nice feeling getting to haul a load so heavy you have to use Lo-Lo.
I’ll be honest. I chubbed up a little bit over that turbo.

this guy is a fucking legend
"It's the best way. Cuz I do it this way"😂
I follow you on tt. Just found this. I got you bud!
Bop it! Pull it! Twist it!
Pass it!🎵🎵
That’s how you do it ..awl that other shit they be doing is for show well done big daddy 😊
Big dad tell the kids what happens when it goes in the granny hole on the high range
👻👻👻

The lo range hi is a secret gear for when your going into turns but don't want to lose to much speed and still need pulling power! 😊
I have a 1966 H1000 Ford Cabover with 250 Cummins 5 speed transmission and a Eaton 3 speed on front differential
Thank you brother
I bet big dad feel like a boss when he’s shifting gears 😂
Can you do a video coming all the way down from the top gear
The sound of those waste gates , reminds me of your mom taking a breath after each…..lol
Have a great fuckin day Mr Sharp
Mike could you split gears while downshifting???
👍truck it up big dad
👊fym , I'm up your up
That how they were designed to be shifted for sure keeps the engine in the powerband

Just play the video backwards. Downshifting is the same as upshifting only going the other way.
nice video
Good Vidoe thanks
💥💪💯
Is that a cat 3406? Sounds amazing
I have an 18 spd and I don't know if I've ever split them all. Especially on the low side.
Technically you started in 3rd, U shifted through 16 gears. great video btw
so when you start off in 1st that technically 3rd gear since you don’t use the low. right or wrong??
When you split the gear do you push the clutch in?
Listen to that cat motor fire right up
sounds that might put a grown man to sleep in under 60 seconds
Why do some people jump into neutral and then back into gear when splitting? Does it have any actual benefit or are they just doing it because they think it looks cool?
Because the clutch is only used to go into 1st or reverse, you want to hang in neutral till your rpms are just right so you don't have any grinding. I don't drive trucks, but that's what common sense tells me.
Do you double clutch everything or how do you do that part?
It's all coordinated by the right hand and right foot. No clutch needed except starting
Do another downshifting all the gears with the jake on
Quit the railroad and getting my cdl after being inspired by big dad, what your title Mike? Owner operator?
Company man 🤝
Drive lowboy for the Railroad, best of both worlds!
Facts, do not join the rat race of the big box companies, nothing like what big Mike does!
I'm up here in Canada hauling 63500 kg. And we don't split gears like that unless you're going up a steep hill
And if you listen very close,You can almost hear me not giving a fuck
@@Iron_Mike_Sharp fucking love it bro. Ive watched 10 shifting videos tonight and everybody splits, starting to think im doing it wrong
6nZ madness
You don’t use the mystery hole!?
Wish I had a 18 speed in mine. Sometimes I gotta run 4 up to damn near 2k before goin in to 5 c'mon!
Why did you only shift 16 gears
Do you have clutch pedal?
Thanks
Dammit Big Dad, you are a Gear Shifting Mother Trucker, C’mon!
G.F.Y.M.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Do you have one with down shifting?
Just likes to hear himself cuss
where that seat belt at

The last time I saw anyone work numbers 1 thru 18 so fast it was your mom.
No Clutch FYM!
Clutch only for take off and stopping, you float gears according to you rpms. Very nice on the legs!
Never seen someone split em all
hoyl fuck it was that simple :0
THATS HARD ON A DRIVETRAIN SHIFTING WITH THE JAKE BRAKE ON.
Listen to that co.....
actualy you shifted 16 gears , 18 gear includes the bull low
Like a pro #Ironmikesharp .😂
I’ve driven a 10 speed but that’s the highest
13speed better land sped to gear ratios
The sound 😩
I’m I the only one counting 12 gears?
He shifted 16 gears
13 speed and 18 speed. Almost the same thing.
FYM
You did it but did not teach a thing😮
You didn't teach us anything did not explain how to do it
Is this video from the last century? Which modern truck still has a clutch? We have automatic transmissions. What backward country is this from?😂😂😂
She sounds healthy!!!!!
Wrong
No one ever asked
I HATE THIS COMMENT ‼️
SOOOOO I DISLIKED IT‼️ YA☝️
Why do you have the Jake on
I didn't hear a jake at any point........
