I have stopped at 2:50 when you (teacher) said “it’s easier to say”. I can understand the other ways easily but when I read or listen to that sentence “We get to leave early” I need to think about it to try understand. Maybe because the word “get” is used in so many ways as frasal verbs that sometimes it’s confused.
Yes, that's the problem with "get." It can be used in so many different ways. If you really want to learn spoken English, it's necessary to become as familiar with the verb as possible.
Hi there! Really informative videos. Please correct me if I'm wrong, shouldn't the verb "visit" only be used when talking about people? As in: I visited my parents yesterday. To my knowledge visit cannot be used in this example: I visited + place. I'm not a native speaker so I'd really appreciate it if you could help me with this.
Thank you for this amazing class. I am enjoying your channel. However, your website is not working well. I was learning a lot, but now many link classes are broken. I hope you can fix it soon. Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much sir for providing value addition material and making us understand thoroughly I find it difficult to understand passive of gerund and infinitive please dispel my doubt🙏
Thanks sir for the helpful video;I have difficulty understanding passive voice in specific situations like this: I'm supposed to select some of the oral reports to be given again tomorrow at the assembly. If I wanted to say the above sentece I would say :WILL BE GIVEN inseat of to be given And I cannot understand why they used passive voice in that example
Dear teacher, Please let me give an explanation for this lesson in Malayalam language (India ). Ex. I lived in UAE for some years when I was young and so I got to learn some Arabic. Being a teacher, I got to know a lot of people in different walks of life. Get to സാധിക്കുക / കഴിയുക / ഇടയാകുക (എല്ലാം അവസരമുണ്ടായി എന്ന അർത്ഥത്തിൽ മാത്രം ) Tense forms : Get to / got to/got to Question forms Did you get to/ Didn't you get to..... (verb ) Negative forms I didnt get to... (verb)(NEVER USE COULDN'T GET TO) Future form : I will get to/they will get to + verb. Another meaning of get to is"go to" . I will get to /You will get to.... etc. എത്തുക എന്ന അർത്ഥത്തിൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന get to എന്ന പ്രയോഗവു യുമായി ഈ get to ന് ഒരു ബന്ധവുമില്ല. അതിന്റെ ഉദാഹരണം : I got to the air port very early. You must get to work on time ( സമയത്തിന് പണിക്കെത്തണം )
Thank you for this great vídeo. In your examples, could we simply use can instead of be able to? That is, are the following sentences equivalent? After 2 hours, I finally could solve that math problem. After 2 hours, I finally got to solve that math problem. Thank you
That would imply a slightly different meaning in some circumstances. In the case of "get to," the idea here is to express a chance, an opportunity, or a privilege.
@@Learnamericanenglishonline Hence, in my examples, the sentence with could is better, because solving the problem was an achievement he got by means of his efforts. Thank you

I am listening to the video again and I think the two sentences are not the same meaning of get to. For example: I have the opportunity to play soccer game today but I wasn’t able to win that game. Has the opportunity is not the same meaning of be able to do something. How is it possible they are the same explanation to “get to”?

He got a chance to act in a film with the prominent actors
That's a good sentence. I would leave out "the" in front of "prominent."

Hello Teacher Paul, is your Learn American English Online website no longer working? I can't find any documents when I click on levels.
I thought ( I get to go = I need to go ) . but things are different here .
I really just focus on American English, so wherever you are in the world that could be the case.

Teacher Paul got it wrong English grammar 'he gets to go'
Like
Dear teacher Paul,
British grammar does not say;
He gets to go; not correct
He has got to go; correct
Do you like muslim
We get to leave early today.
We are able to leave early today.
