Auto mode 1(the screw symbol) = starts slow with you woodscrew to set it right and don't start to wobble. When the screw is set and fixed on position it speed and torque up to drive the screw in. Auto mode 2(the revers bold symbol) = it is for losing bolds. After they are lose it stops too don't lose the bold (no effect when on forward). Mode T1 = it is for self tapping screws, too don't over screw the selling rubber. (It stops right on the point when its perfect seals / perfect pressure on the seal) Mode T2 = is for metal to metal connection screws. Bit more power and runtime, until the 2 metals are together. Then it stops to don't damage the tiny threads they make too keep a strong connection. I hope you guys understand my denglish und the explanation of the modes
Hi, thank u for your explanation. I have the new td172 which is The japanes model, and the board is different and signs in japanes. Do you now if it has the same function? Thank u
The T mode is for self tapping sheet metal screws. It works like a champ, starts out fast to get the self tapper to drill through the metal, then backs off so it doesn't strip out.
I got one of these because I was tired of driving things too far, and I've been really happy with it. Lots of control, and the lights are a big improvement over other drivers I've used.
Not everyone knows but the top button has a favorite setting to quick shift between two settings this means you can set that to a certain speed and quick shift to whatever you choose as nr two for instance between speed 3 the T1 setting. Reset by holding top select button and pushing the lamp button.
T1 and T2 are actually for self tapping screwing on thin or thicker metal. So it screws with speed for penetration but it stops on a pre calculated resistance. They are not ment to screw lags on Woods which demands brute force
I have this tool since February and the with the little button on the top you can program this too switch between 2 modes, one from the automode and one normal mode. This is a tool where you should read the manual. Like your channel a lot. Greetings from Germany ;-)
Good review Clint. Nice Impact driver but for a DIY'er like myself, I don't need all those bells and whistles but that's just my opinion. I wish some manufacturer would come out with an "Impact Package" with 1/4" and 1/2" impacts instead of a drill driver/impact gun package. Just my 2 cents worth, Cheers!
The "picture of a lagbolt" setting is for taking Nuts Off of BOLTS and leaving them on the last few threads so you dont send the nut to oblivion at 3800 rpm, also this happens without you releasing the trigger, had one since february from japan and its amazing, all of the guys with gen 3s or any other tool prefer my Makita TD171B (XDT16)
Good vid brother , all I can say is wow. It certainly looks nice however I'm not really diggin all of those settings and buttons. If you are a Makita guy it would be a nice upgrade but I really don't see guys/gals jumping ship from a different platform because of this impact alone. The button by the trigger was a good idea for use with gloves on...power seems good...tbh Makita gave a good massaging to a already good impact....added some doohickeys and some weeblebums and wallah....all of this is getting 2 confusing , I'm going back to using a screwdriver.
The top quick toggle button can be programmed to switch between any mode/speed eg T2 and speed3. T1 is for self-tapping screws on thin metals and T2 is for thick metal hence they stop at certain torques, not stopping at certain time. T2 also will stop but at higher torque then those screw you’re using.
Trz I can't wait to see the dual in between Makita and Milwaukee from what I saw I believe Makita is going to take it to the top. There is a new sheriff in town. I think I'm going to retire my other Makita impact and get that one. Thanks for the great video. Peace brother
Hallo from Greece..I am a huge fun of makita ..I wanted to say that video wasnt bad..but you did a mistake..if you read the instructions correctly you ll see that the smart button is not only for the 1.2.3.4 mode but there is also a way to create a memory of working choices which includes choices also from the blue area button! The tool comes by the factory the way you said ..but It is adjustable also for the other modes and the way that suits you!you ll find more at your manual at page 10-11.I hope that Americas manual is the same like Europe as it has to do with manuals pages!
Check out the new Td171dzar from makita, supposedly just a little faster than this, though specs cannot be found yet. Also u can check out the td001, the 40v batteries are not available yet but you can buy the drill from japan
More electronic more that will go wrong after a few years. I own the Makita Lxt btd140 from 2007 still going. I would like to see something like the xdt16 with simple trigger pull NO FUNCTIONS OTHER THAN LIGHTS
This is the worst review I've ever seen. He didn't know anything about how the tool actually works. Didn't know the first thing about the T-Modes, repeatedly tried to use it where it doesn't apply (it's for self-tapping screws into metal) . For bolt mode he used a lag bolt when he should have used nuts and bolts. The memory button does work on the special modes... if you read the instructions. He couldn't even get the full name of the tool right. The only thing he got right was turning the light on and off. He should have watched one of the other videos about the tool that are now six months old. Or the ones from Australia and Japan from early last year.

Easily readable. Your English isn't bad! Thank you!
The LED lighting is VASTLY improved as well! One word: MAKITA!

Makita the best impacto driver 👏👏👏
Very informative,Thanks for shearing 👍🏼

Ditto on the Japanese version. It's just that much better than the 16. I don't let anyone touch the 17.
That makita going to be a beast
Tool Duel tomorrow bro!!!

FYI, the frosty white rubber ring around the chuck is glow in the dark.

Great Video Clint
Thanks brother, I appreciate it 👊

You can program it to use the quick select button to take you between 2 different modes and not just 1-4
I just received mine from Japan (red/black model) and the manual and buttons are in Japanese...so this video helped out a lot minus the obvious lol
Trz I can't wait to see the dual in between Makita and Milwaukee from what I saw I believe Makita is going to take it to the top. There is a new sheriff in town. I think I'm going to retire my other Makita impact and get that one. Thanks for the great video. Peace brother
Thanks brother. I see you have tour money on the Makita.... we shall see!!!
Make REVERSE part of the duel please! Seems the gen 3 has collet issues when backing off?
Love the information, next time can u drive into metal with self tappers 👍🏽
I noticed the bolt mode is faster then mode 4
That makita is sweet
Yeah bro, it definitely has a lot going for it

Very nice. But the Makita tool I've really been waiting for is a gasless first fix nailer like the Hikoki. Come on Makita, get you finger out.
Dang I would love to test this makita on my channel
If it was mine I would send it to you bro. It's just a temp unit that Acme let me try
@@ToolReviewZone it's okay bro they probably loaned you the tool
@Derek Claycomb lmfao you have no idea how much money I spend in tools a year im not going to buy another tool brand I dont need for a youtube video

Thanks brother, truly appreciate it ... Kaboom!!!!
Why not use Torx screws? They strip less.
I'll probably pick some more up. I do like them a lot better
Looks pretty sweet. I may have to give it a try. Thanks for the review! 🔵💪🏼🔵

Great video brother. When is dewalt bringing a new impact out .887 is old hat now .
I haven't heard anything yet bro, but maybe soon. I'll keep my eyes open
Can I change a wheel with it?
Partly sponsored by Acme tools not Coptool. Lol
I really would like to try it and possibly get one. The work I do now that would be perfect for
Hahaha, NOT COP TOOL! that's hilarious you remembered that bro
Tool Review Zone I try to be a good follower. Lol!
Aren't the T1 T2 modes for Teks fasteners - not wood?
Neil Borkowicz that’s what I thought
So you'll be comparing it to the Milwaukee will you ???
after time we will see that the dcf840 will outlast all others ? Time will tell. Best drivers ATM Makita & Milwaukee. Dewalt 840 is a sleeper
Use an impact socket or break what you’re using
It really puts those lags down quickly!!
Beside the 4 speeds its about the same as the last three 3 speed impacy they have made
can recommend a drill to complment the makita impact driver? cheers
Check this one out homedepot.sjv.io/GBM7B
If they would only get with the times and release a mid level impact. Makita has fallen way behind over the past several years.
Good quality video I also do a review channel.
I think it’s a bit to much I don’t need all thoughts setting

If anyone wants some Matrix carbide Milwaukee bits, go get some while you can, Milwaukee is sending them to the dumpster... discontinued
Wow I didn't know that. I know they had a lot of issue's with them, but damn

This was an awful review. If you read the manual for even 1 minute, you'd have a better understanding of what each mode was for.
To bad Makita is a ugly color. Plus the battery they make looks old. I’ll stick with the Milwaukee Line 🤑
Lmao
It's my belief Clint was sent "tool only" and was using his personal battery.
-mad he invested into Milwaukee
Thought this was out for a while
Na not this one bro. Not long at all
