DO WE REALLY NEED TO CARRY ALL OUR LENSES.

- Looked out at 5 am and the sky was clear. Got ready, had breakfast, looked out again and a large quantity of fog had moved in. So off we went to our planned location and that was also cloaked in thick fog. For the first hour and a half we ran around capturing the shots you can see at the beginning of the video. The fog cleared and we then started to film the video. I try in this video to understand if we really need to bring out all our lenses. I work through a process of using all the lenses in the location we visit, which has it's benefits and some downsides.

Love the black& whites in the beginning. What a great location. You are right what an opportunity in the fall.
Hi Thomas. On reflection I wish I had tried to vlog the fog. However it's only 30 minutes from home so when those conditions repeat I will vlog next time. Roll on the fall. Thank you for watching.
One of my favourite locations there Craig. It’s looking lovely now the spring greens are coming through. I tend to take just the one lens most of the time these days which is my 28-200mm. I found that over 95% of the images I take are within that range. If I need wider then I’ll take a couple of images and stitch them together. I’ll take the wide angle when I’ve got specific images in mind for that day. Each to their own though!
Hi Anthony. That is a great reminder stitching together. I have done it before, but it has been completely off my radar. That location,. I cannot wait to explore it in the autumn. Thank you for watching.
Nice photos 👍
Hi Lubos. Thank you for watching.
Hi Craig! I'm a bit excited! I have a new toy! I've managed to acquire the Nikon Z5! And it's got with it one of the lenses on that you were talking about at the start of the video, the 24-70. All I need to do now is visit some nice places to take some photos. In fact, Sherwood Forest wouldn't be a bad place to start, seeing as it's only 20 mins away from me!😁
Hi Ash get yourself out there. 24-70 is such a good focal length to take images with. Sherwood Forest has lots of subjects to take. I will be interested to see your images on Instagram. Thank you for watching.
Hi Craig me again, I recently walked around an unpronounceable Welsh reservoir,6 and a half miles to be precise carrying my camera, a 10-20mm a 28-140mm and my 55-300mm and a tripod plus other camera gummings, and I didn't take my camera out once!!!!. However it as inspired me to return there for the autumn colours. The other benefit was doing almost 16,000 steps .🥵
Many thanks Steve H
Hi Steve. Wales is an area I need to spend some time in. I will also refrain from trying to pronounce the locations. I cannot wait for autumn, it will be round the corner very soon. Thank you for watching.
I took all my lenses except for MB to Iceland. I’ll cover it in my Vlog, but the bottom line was a mild fear of not having the right focal length for any given scene. Turns out that 15-30 and 24-105 would have been sufficient. However, the 50mm Prime with its 1.4 aperture, and the mighty 70-200 gave me the opportunity to make the best of a couple of difficult situations. I think it’s the unfamiliar territory that drives me to want to wheelbarrow my gear along with me, when I’m in the Peak I can pretty much guarantee having the right ensemble.
But then I take em all anyway…
If I ever get to Iceland I will certainly take all my lenses - you just never know what could be right in front of you. cheers buddy.
What I take depends on where I'm going and what I'll be shooting. For many years I would take all of my lenses with me in a Pelican case. Then when I got to a destination I would take the lens(es) I wanted to use out of the case and put them in a bag. But, as I've gotten older, I take fewer lenses with me and they travel in Tenba bags with my cameras.
I always seem to leave the wrong lens behind and miss a shot or two🙂. Thank you for watching.
we just decide to leave one behind to make it just the one you need
Hi jcgfranco that well could be the right thing to do. Thank you for watching.
