- Here's my 5 things I wish I knew when I started painting. My brain kinda wasn't functioning when I filmed this so forgive the slight rambling at times lol.
If anyone is wondering who I am, I’m a graduate from University of the Arts London (I did a Painting BA at Wimbledon, graduated in 2018) and I’m here to simply communicate as much useful information as I can to the masses and document my career as an artist. I try my best to speak about only what I know of and a thank you to all those supporting the channel so far, it has literally been built mostly from the interactions with the UA-cam community.
Feel free to comment down below or message me on Instagram about any of my content, I’m all ears to both positive and negative criticism so don’t shy away! As I said above this channel is built from my interaction with everyone, SO KEEP THOSE COMMENTS AND MESSAGES COMING!

Using enough paint is such a good point! Paint is about materiality people... USE THE MATERIAL ahahah thick vs thin on a painting surface is one of the most beautiful things to see on a canvas 😍
Legit I realised I was so stingy with paint I actually used a whole huge tube on purpose for an experiment just to get over using barely any 😂
You do have the vocabulary. Convencing is a perfect word. Every piece must be convincing.
Historically, artist had to pay their dues and have years, decades of experience behind them before recognition comes.
Today, there are no "rules" in art but there are laws of nature in art.
Tomas, I just discovered you, as a great young artist, Thank you for sharing. Stick to one medium and use a lot of paint. A good advice, Your artwork is already stunning, yet you are so humble. I am not an artist, I am a beginner, 64 old disabled lawyer. Do you have any advice to me, as I have limited lifespan :) I got a lot of acrylic paint and watercolor paint. I am afraid to paint, I like to buy all the art stuff, but I need to stop and start painting. I love oil pastels and soft pastels and coil. I feel obliged to paint with all my Tomas I think that you are a genius. Thank you again.
Hello Helga thanks for watching 😃 for oil pastels I'd recommend Sennelier - They're wonderful and soft, layer really well and come across very painterly. Regarding painting I think the best approach is experiment a bit first and just see what you enjoy using, you can also look at your favourite artists to see what they use if you're looking to create a specific kind of effect 👍🏻 drop me a DM on insta if you have some more questions!
Great content! ✨
Thank you 😎
I am so guilty with using the enough paint😅 I always put very minimal paint coz I am afraid of overdoing it and the ended up under doing it 😅😑
It's really important to use enough paint too 😆 without enough paint you won't get vivid colours - once to try and kill the habit of not using enough I just used a whole tube of paint and did a crap abstract painting to get over it.
@@TomasFolanHasici yay! Thank you for that idea! Looking forward for more of your tips and more power to your Channel too!

Dear Tomas,I am your fans. I want to ask a question about UK art school. do you think the RCA or the Slade(UCL)is better ,I major in fine art(sculpture). because most people in my country recommended me go to slade, but RCA is the number one in QS 😂
Always think about your own context. If it's reputation, what advantage does going to the RCA as the number one give you? If the extra fees for the RCA is a big problem then going to the Slade is more sensible. But if the reputation of the RCA is important for your career plans then it could be worth the price specifically for you. Also ask your friends why they're advising you to go to the Slade, I've had mixed opinions on how things are run across different courses in the UK (including complaints about RCA) so it's most important for you to work out what is best for you. I'd say look for the better experience when it comes to your course, whichever has tutors more suited to your interests, studio spaces etc. Try and get hold of students to speak to them too if you can over social media 💪🏻 Thanks for watching 😎
