The context of this video is educational & to show you how I recommend fixing lag spikes on the Playstation 4. Results cannot be guaranteed but I do my best to show you what I recommend given my knowledge!

QOS is the only proven method for reducing ping spikes in games , period. It's backed by science, and verifiable with proper testing. You can even have insane amounts of bandwidth and still lag in games without proper queueing. Hope you all enjoyed.
Glasscock I have a question. I have 300 down and 30 upload. Have a SB6183 Modem with a Nighthawk router. When I play. Usually there’s 4 other devices connected to the internet should i still use QoS?
And also does WMM Qos affect at all? Should be enabled for 2.4ghz and 5Ghz or disabled?
Daniel Jackson wmm by default on nighthawk is enabled and should be left enabled. With 30mbps upload you shouldn't really need QOS unless those other devices are constantly doing a lot of uploading downloading or streaming. Otherwise you could just experiment and see if it makes any difference
Glasscock I have a 4g device and there is no qos option in the settings. So I'm stuck with my ping suddenly going up to 1100 in fortnite

@@winterlol363 it was cuz covid, literally, when we had online school, the internet providers were slow of that, so basically its fixed now, But i recommend to minimize the background apps to minimum for the lowest usage of the internet while gaming, get a Ethernet cable and make prefferences for the game (you can set prefferences to each app what from low to high)

The problem is not only for games even when I tried speed test the test becomes fine then after another try every stuff like the ping the jitter and packet loss increase. It's very unstable and gives me very different results. Even in games it's goes from 120ms to 968ms suddenly and goes back again. I mean I haven't tried ethernet because I don't have a pc that have the port to plug in I also don't have the usb 3.0 thing please it's been 4 years from now till I faced this problem.

Same. I play siege and have 9 ping, which is very good, but for a sec it goes to 1500 so my screen freezes for a good 3 secs and I end up some other place. Thing that makes me mad is the lag spikes always occur when I'm about to kill someone, but they always get me since my screen freezes
@@AJVloggings Sameee (ish). I play valorant and i generally have a meh 80 ping, but every now and then it spikes up to like 3000 for a minute or so. My game freezes/bugs around, and I get laughed at in chat. And then I crash and get a penalty for "leaving" and can't queue for a few hours.

Hey man I’m having this problem where I get ping spikes from 40-220+ for like 20 second periods and it’s unplayable for the spiking period... I ran a speed test during the issue and the results didn’t show any spike... any thoughts?

I highly recommend that you run this test multiple times, as with spiking in my case wasn't effective on some tests but on others it was.

I upgrade from ADSL (10mbps down and 0.50 mbps up) get over 250 ping to fibre (200mbps down and 10-20mbps up) under 10 ping

I have gotten used to the spikes in certain games like Rocket League, but lately, it has been awful. When I play Fortnite with my friends I would be playing as I usually do, but out of nowhere the game would freeze for a couple of seconds, and my ping would go up drastically. Anyone who has played Fortnite before knows shit can hit the fan in less the five seconds and lag won't help me win the fights at all.

Wish this was with a nighthawk, the setup is COMPLETELY different, so I have no idea how I'm supposed to do what you are in the video.
It's fairly similar when you find the qos settings generally at 192.168.1.1 with the nighthawk.
Thank you for letting me know about the Qos thing. It worked and fixed my lag that i've had issues with for months. Couldn't play leagues for 2mins without randomly jumping to 300 ping for a sec. I went to my qos this turned it on and limited it to 5 mbps and i'm staying 46ping no lag :D

I kind of skipped through some parts, so I'm not sure if you said it but PingPlotter is also a good way to check if you have ping spikes. I'm not sure if you have heard about it, it shows real time ping. Great video! :D

John Glasscock Even though netgear says they have qos I don't see it in my setup settings or advanced set up settings. Is there something I have to enable for it to appear?

I'm playing fortnite on middle east servers. So the network I use has 130ping.but there's another connection I only get 60 there. Its an issue with routing do you know how to fix it without the isps help?
The thing is my ping doesn't jump from 24 to something randomly high like 500, it jumps from 24-32 or 23 or 15 and I'm still getting jitters.
Another funny thing is my mobile hotspot is 100% better than my router in terms of consistent ping.

I've been playing Tf2 since 2017, it used to run fine until recently. I would be mid battle with an enemy and be doing decent and then all of a sudden BAM! My skin begins freezing and then releasing, freezing and releasing, basically my ping shoots up. I've lost more than a dozen confrontations now because of this and it's annoying, very annoying.

captain spaulding it's impossible to fix ping spikes on a 4g connection. There's no way to control the bandwidth and the latency is unpredictable because its using radio cell towers not a dedicated line

For mobile hotspot call the number that refreshes your network. Also hotspots have to have exact spots u have to place your phone in to get your best connection like mark where its best so u can place it all the time

Honestly I would be fine with my ping if it weren't for games kicking me out as soon as it spikes from 15 to 200 for one milisecond. And I know for a fact that devs can change that considering it only happens in very few specific games.

You can, what model is it. Also what your ISP. Wrt routers are nice to have but you have to know how to flash them and also have a good understanding of how bandwidth works. There is a lot of settings in the wrt firmware, it's not just flash and plug and play.

My PS4 story:
It was all jolly and all.Yesterday,there was like no problem at all of me playing over watch.Unfortunately today,I had terrible lag spikes,it was mild at first which is i was at 25 Ms and it went up and down between 25Ms till 50-60Ms which like continued for the entire math of Overwatch.The issue is that on first glance it was giving false hope that like your internet is fine,not until like 2 mins it starts to do jack shiz.The aftermath was that it became worse,from 25ms to 800ms and then floats between 200ms and 500ms like wtheck i cant even move properly.My internet connection(upload) is mostly above 10mbps which is OK.I hope this helps though.
