The story of how they got their powers was more interesting than the modern time story
Yh but that one scene where they are all floating is cringe
I couldn’t agree more. I felt super disappointed every time they cut from the origin story to show me what’s happening in the present day. That old timey “expedition” feel was the only thing that kept me coming back half the time.
I enjoyed that the most
I agree that it was more interesting but at the same time when they get to the final episode I was left with more questions than answers. Like if this island granted super powers just to these 6 "who proved they were worthy" then where do all the other supes and villains come from?
Only towards the end. It dragged on for FAR too long. And they should fire whoever thought it was a good idea to switch between times as much as possible in a single episode.
Netflix is such a hit or miss with their originals
mostly a miss these days.. last good original i watched is dark and thats a german show.
waiting for love death robots season 2.. hope they dont fck that up.
Netflix is quantity over quality, has been like that these last few years
@@MrVad3r damn facts
@@Nersify very true
They're like the discount CW with these shows
Its like Amber from Invincible, but stretched out to several different characters over a whole season...
pretty much
Cold-blooded
You nailed it.
Amber wasnt that bad until they decided to make that stupid ass decision of making her know Marks secret. Which makes no fucking sense and it was an awful decision because in the comics she didn't know.
@@SuperMurray2009 exactly bro, its all fine and compelling and then outta nowhere it devolves into nonsensical drama for dramas sake, id give it a THINK MARK/10 👉🏾😩👈🏾
I like the origin story over most origin stories in marvel/DC movies and comics. That part was pretty good
I enjoyed the vast majority of it, was just a little annoyed at how the otherwise excellent cast for the flashbacks handled the final stretch, didn't really sell the "acceptance" shtick very well.
I'm more focused on joes reflection in the tv in the background.
Shit, now I am too
That's hilarious. Didn't even notice until you mentioned it.

Bringing the vlogging back is genuinely better.
nuh uh
Josh Duhamel did a good job especially during the past scenes.
@@dustin2264 it’s not a good show come on man
I like the acting, especially Josh and Elena Kampouris (the drug addict daughter) but I don't think they were given much to work with or do in this. Neither of their character's really progressed during the show (other than flashback Sheldon), we just saw more and more of their layers which could be thanks more to their presentation than the script.
@@dustin2264 Everyone has their own opinion, but this show was really bad, could barely connect with any of the characters, bad action scenes, bad CGI. Again, just my own opinion.
Man honestly those flashback scenes were carrying some heavy weight for the entirety of the series. I wish Shel had more "heart" written into his character, but ultimately that's where most of my interest was. Going to be interesting to see what they do with the real George in present day.
@@thant0s Ditto👍

Is that TV outside?! That's just so bizarre for me. I guess weather is pretty great in Texas but here in Scotland you just couldn't do that ever. If it's not pissing it down, it's freeze your balls off weather.
We actually got some sun today, which was nice. Haven't seen it in a while 😂
The rain would hit our TV and blow it up lol
Texas weather is pretty random
My favorite part was the origin in the 1930s everything else was stuff told and done better other places . I saw someone described it as a bigger budgeted DC CW show
The past thing was really good. It basically carried the season.
Especially the fights, very cw, and that was kinda a massive let down. There was some high quality stuff, but it felt horribly inconsistent jumping from decent, not quite the boys or Disney+, to laughable CW levels.
JUST finished the season and.. I gotta say, it grew on me. Can't wait to see how the stories continue.
Me too. I don’t understand why he thinks it’s cringe at all. I loved it.
@@natemododragon9969 Because Joe likes to shit on anything that isnt his Soopperrmmeeaannnnn and its probably a bit to intelligent for him.
I too found the show really really intriguing, loved the reveals. Only let down was the last episode, seems like it was all just starting to fall into place then bam. End season.
@@CrossoXoHair this show is a lot of things, but intelligent was not one of them. In fact, why did you think a superhero show would be intelligent???
@@ape5490 why can’t a superhero show be intelligent? We shouldn’t just lower our standards to make something look better
Yeah I don't think "intelligent" is the best word for the series, and that's coming from someone who ended up being won over by it.
I actually appreciated the genuine attempt at good people on both sides of a really difficult issue without trying to say that either side is objectively wrong (just that both sides have some objectively awful reasoning for and against killing in the heat of battle).
If for nothing else, I'll give them credit for portraying an old religious man as not an immediate and obvious villain, I just wish they actually gave them more opportunities to be truly *heroic.* Was weird not seeing anyone ever actually rescue civilians or police officers outside of Brandon's random distraction where he fussed over one but didn't actually help, only got clipped because of it.

Some T-virus can help with that.
one of the only shows where i actually enjoy the flashbacks than the modern timeline.
Putting your tv outside like that especially in Texas is stupid. That humidity will destroy it
Yea I was wondering about that... Pretty dumb. But when companies just send u free tvs u don't kno what to do with em all... Apparently he's down to putting em outside now lmao must be nice
The boys could probably make good use of it in the misadventures room. Oh well.
My biggest problem with it is that it only felt like half a season. After the 8th episode i was finally felt like, "Ok, now we're getting somewhere....wait....it's over....that's it?"
Other points that AJ and other have said that i agree with are
1) Daddy issues - we're meant to feel like utopian was a bad parent, but we never get to develop those feelings that the children feel, so we don't really connect with them, which makes them just come off as whiny.
2)Past vs Present - Because of the previous point, the present story is a bit of a drag to watch which makes the past story feel so much better. I often found myself dreading whenever the present came up and only found myself looking forward to the past.
3)The Code - I enjoyed this debate that the series brought up and was probably the only subject in the present story that kept it interesting.
All in all it'd say it's worth a watch, but definitely not a must watch.
I disagree I feel they showed us plenty of times how he was a bad parent he didn't even know his sons best friend had died. Or anything about his daughters life I feel they made it clear he viewed those things as necessary losses and thats fine but don't expect the kids to like it is the whole point of their interactions
And man I hated the code its makes so little sense its practically suicide the shrink guy pointed it out exactly to him and he still didn't get it truthfully I agree with the uncle a little bc I feel the code is responsible for how bad things got in that world it almost promotes deadly force on the villains part bc if losing your own life is off the table what do you have to lose
I really enjoyed the show. The flashbacks had me hooked more than the present day stuff. I’m looking forward to the second season.
I agree. I liked it even their costumes and am looking forward to more. Maybe it's because I never read the comics so I had no preconceptions. : )
Couldn’t agree more, loved the flashbacks
Yeah me too. I liked the flashback scenes. But the present day is meh until the last ep
The show was good. Obviously the comics were way better and yes similar stories were better told in other adaptations; but it still is quite good.
@@kinglotski I think the present day is just a build up to season 2
This show should have been animated just like invincible.
Now you mentioned it yes would been better what studio should of done a animated Jupiter legacy series ?

Oh My God, I’m not the only one who annoyed with the daughter 🤣🤣

The modern day stuff is a 7/10 for me but the flashback 1929 stuff is a 9/10 and that's what saved the show from being average IMO. Overall an 8/10 hoping for a significant improvement for S2 in Jupiter's Legacy
You must have a lot of perfect 10s
@@aidans4588 Nah i don't but the flashback scenes were great IMO and that arc has the quality to stand up towards shows like The Boys and Invincible, i'm not saying that it's better cos IMO both those shows are a rare 10 however the modern day stuff was competent but i quite often found myself being bored and then excited and bored again during the modern day arc so a 7/10. Overall it's an 8/10 which for me is a fair rating to give as i've binge watched it all in like a day so it must have done something right. I just want the modern day stuff to improve which i hear that the comics from the next season is going to do.
dang you got a t.v. outside, that's so badass! can't do that here cause we get wicked rain and thunders
The whole time I'm trying to figure out how do you keep the TV safe from weather and thieves
Thanks Joe, I was looking forward to this as I like Millars books but I'll not rush at the moment then to watch and will finish other things first!
Millar and kick-ass is awesome. This is not that...
It’s his opening just watch it and make your own opinion
I would give it a try. The key is if you like the 1929 storyline. I only really cared about one of the younger generation and it wasn't the son and daughter.
This comment is a problem..do you not think for yourself?
How many times have people claimed something sucked but once you watched it you thought it was amazing. I think Die Hard FUCKING SUCKS, I think Captain Marvel was a good movie(besides those moments the unrealistic feminism kicked in). If I let the opinions of others sway what I watch then I would've meaninglessly hated on a film I didn't even watch...and that's dumb
First episode was painful. Second one finished me. Avoid.
damn Bro u got a bad ass outdoor setup man , looking like all that hard work over the years of grinding out content on youtube is finally paying off for ya joe good to see you doing so well , Keep up the great work
I honestly would love to watch a animated Jupiter Legacy.
Animated would have been the better option, the suits look weird, the fight scenes are weird, and the actors look weird.
I agree, if they had animated this and used the actors as voice actors, this would have been WAY better. All the fake beards and age makeup really hurt it.
I actually really liked the 1929 storyline being bigger, mostly because we haven't really seen many superhero "period pieces", and I think it'd be interesting to see more like that. Maybe not in this show specifically, but just in general. Jupiter's Legacy definitely has issues though, and I kinda agree with the 5/10 rating. For me personally, there's *just* enough good that I'll watch a season 2 as well, and I hope the storytelling will get more focused there.
I cared more about how the OG super heroes got their powers than the present story
Edit: I love the scene when they're hovering over the boat.
Yeah, you have get past ep 1 & stay for the origin story (plus put up with the family dramas). I thought I would hate it after ep 1, but binge watched the rest in one day I like it so much. Plus the great twist in the end. :)
Would have love to seen hiw they got back to shore. What was their conversation like. I need more!!
Same here. Then again perhaps I liked it more because those damn kids wasn't there.
@@Nostromo2144 I also binge watched the entire thing in one day. I was fairly entertained.
@@strangelandian yeah I, remember Gods of Egypt - most critics & fans shit on it, but I found it completely entertaining! Probably in large part due to the crap reviews which lowered my expectations ;)
8 episodes and we barely get any development. Comic is great.
funny how they wanted to do a movie at the start, but they said that they did not wanted to rush the back story so they change it for a tv series, now everybody wish they rush it.
No development? Like as in character development? What the hell are you talking about. We know tons of things about almost every one of the six main heroes (not as much about the doctor character with the rod) and we see how they have changed both mentally and emotionally through the years. There still some mysteries left untold (why did Skyfox turn evil, how does his son posses the rod, etc) but you have to leave some additional back stories for the next season.
That raytracing on the TV reflection is super realistic.
I loved it, I found the dynamics between the father and son to be awesome. I like waiting to figure out how things come together. I am not an action fiend so I don’t mind being patient for more.

And yet it's top 10 lol I enjoyed need a season 2
Yea. Personally I didn't like the way it ended I hope they decided to go back on the cancel and do it right
Something that really bothered me was that although they spend the whole season exploring how they got their powers, theres no explanation for how all these other heroes and villains, who are unrelated to the 6, got theirs. You mean to tell me all these people are descendants of the 6 or those people on the boat who got caught in the aftershock?
Also very convenient that although these heroes are over 100 years old, all their kids are basically seem to be the same age in modern times.
Comic book logic can explain all of your questions.
It’s possible that the chosen 6 got their powers just in time to defend against another evil power source giving bad people powers.
The blast that gave the original 6 powers could have had residuals affects on the men waiting on the ship and anyone or anything else. Remember in modern day at least 100 years have passed. Plenty of time for people to have kids affected by the blast. In the beginning it looked like the 6 were fighting regular criminals and natural disasters. The villains with extra power may have come years later.
None of what I stated may even be fact but I am using comic book logic. Comic book logic = anything you can and can’t imagine. All subjective to your personal level of creativity.
Wow, i really liked this. Idk i like the going back and forth with the past and the complex family dynamics. I like the casting a lot. Idk to each their own. I would give it like a 7.5/10
Same, I loved the dynamics between the characters, and I thought the aging look accurate for someone aging slower. If you are looking for the boys, endless violence, this is not it. If you are more into the psychological-human element type of character developments, you are going to enjoy it like me and my wife did.
Remember some of these guys are comic freaks so they’ll always try to compare it to the actual show. Watch The Boys if you haven’t already it’s similar to this but waay better imo
No one's gonna talk about he's got a flatscreen hooked up on his back porch that's not stolen?
Rita - F*СΚ MΈ ! What?
Haha my man Joe getting paid
I was literally just sitting here wondering about that myself
I also enjoyed the 1930 stuff. It was interesting. Only thing I don't like is the customs lol
How is the past stuff the worst? He’s crazy for thinking that. The flashbacks were far better than the present
I agree this looked like a decent watch just after finishing invincible, but holy shrek it fiona'd so hard.
The sad thing is despite the fact that it's Netflix and a comic books series...I'm going to watch it.
Nerd runs through my veins.
The truth is Netflix shits out more crap than actual good content but to each their own. On the rarest of times is there a good original.
As someone who still hasn't seen the show yet I can't say it's good or bad, but from an outward perspective ....this looks like poodoo ...but we'll see.
I agree with Joe that you should read the comic. It had the same drawing style as All Star Superman but does get dark and gets into the more human portion of a superhero. Definitely recommend.
After reading the comics (book 1 & 2) I became more pissed at the show. Seriosuly had the first season ended similarly like book 1 I would have been hyped for the second season.
this is one of the few shows that doesn't start strong, but gets progressively better by leaps and bounds as it continues. those last two eps were great.
So, skip the first half episodes?
I agree. I really like the 7th episode in particular.
No, it doesn't.
@@Movie2Documentary are you that moronic??
"the last two episodes" lmaooooooo.. ITS GARBAGE
I enjoyed how the flashbacks interweave with the present day plot. The actors also gave a good showing.
I actually enjoyed it! I thought it was well acted. Leslie Bibb, Ben Daniels, and Josh Duhamel are underrated. The visuals were hit and miss but I thought the flashback story was interesting, action was fun at times, and the twists were all around solid. I definitely wish there was more action but I’m sure they could improve upon it in another season. Also I thought the costumes looked awesome! I definitely want to know more about these characters.
I think invincible is the new bar for super hero brutality
I think the flashbacks were better than the present day. The quality of the present-day could have been more, I think they just focused too heavily on one thing 'daddy issues. That could have been handled in the first episode for each kid, and then build out their story and move on to bigger issues like the code by mid-season. Then escalated towards the end it was so drawn out.
I absolutely detest Netflix trying to milk the show by dragging out a ton of things that aren't necessary. They could've wrapped up this season by following the comic's 1st half then the rest for the following season. Oh well, it's understandable how every entertainment company wants that cash cow.
I saw the trailer and as soon as I heard a super-kid whine "He was never there for me. He was too busy saving the world" I checked out harder than Superman's diamond stress ball.
Can we have more of this Joe on the news segments?
The thing I really like was the backstory about how they got there powers
I enjoyed the show and had no problem to overlook the (I guess budget) constraints in the visual department. And I really liked the 1929 stuff.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Something about the first two episodes just felt off and I could not put my finger on it, it's weird but I just can't put into words why the whole thing just feels wrong.
It has no woke bs in it, I quite enjoyed it.
The Boys have terrible costumes too. This show is not bad at all, quite enjoyed it. George is awesome
but the Boyz knows the costumes are ridiculous and they're mocked/laughed at. it's not taken seriously.
That was the point. The boys is essentially a self aware parody. Its like the venture bros of superheroes
@@zygas25 i'm guessing he only watched the trailers.
All i can think about is if it rains or snows out side how does he protect his TV? Does he put a tarp over it? Or does he unhook the TV if it snows? What it hales out side? What if someone comes up and steals the TV? Does he just leave it sitting outside hooked up at all times? What if bugs infest the TV because its outside? These are the real questions here! 📺
The pacing was by far my biggest gripe with this, they stretched the story they wanted to tell in season 1 to the breaking point. Highlight for me was the relationship 'tween Sheldon, Walter and George...with George basically being Sheldon's chosen brother. Anyways, I do agree with your score, the pacing keeps it from being more than average, though I still found it vastly more compelling than Falcon/WinterSoldier, which I found to just be a hot mess of jumbled storytelling.
Joe just wanna say I love these short vlogs. Feels old school yet refreshing 👌
I like it, one of the better series of this year.
Vlogs like this show a different perspective. It would be cool to see you do more videos from outside. With a tripod obviously, but overall I like the quality of the video itself. Angry Joe show staff overall has come a ways in terms of presentation and it's a definitely good thing.

Yeah but it’s way way too long and winded. Joe is right. I was watching this and forcing myself but damn this is so boring! Get to the point. The daughter is a crack head? I admit it's not like MCU/DC/Invincible (if you're expecting that you'll be disappointed) but i like the whole idea of the code and the family issues. It's something you won't get in the MCU maybe until the x-men show up. If you're a comic book fan give it a shot.

While I can definitely recognize your criticisms of the show, as somebody that hasn't read the comic it still actually drew me in and I binged the whole season in 2 days (its only 8 episodes anyways), but yeah, its not the highest quality but I still liked it! I didn't mind the flashbacks and actually quite liked how it showed how their past problems resurface in the present, it drew a nice parallel imho.
Agree the show is definitely above average and worth a watch.
I keep hearing about this show. Guys who have seen it....is it worth watching?

@Skyler Robinson Tall statement. Havent heard anyone else claim that.
@Skyler Robinson Well you'd also have to take away the action too because that was great

Yes!!
“It’s not as poignant that it seems to think that it is.” Well said.
The worst part was every time they showed up to a crime in progress, and slowly crept around while someone was in another room screaming to death. The main super heroes all have super speed!! WTF are they sneaking around while someone dies in the next room!!!? There was no good reason for any of the heroes to die except the fire kid that was enjoying a joint when he was creamed by a boulder.
I loved this new series. It’s not on the same level as the boys or invincible but it got me hooked. Can’t wait for season 2.
Actually everything that joe hated about the tv series, was what I loved about the show. The daughter and brothers issues with the superhero fathers expectations were pretty great. Especially looking forward to the daughters growth and where she will end up at.
he got a few things right. the costumes are horrible, and the first episode almost made me stop watching as well. i enjoyed the flashback origin story as you did, saved the show really, and the daughter issues worked for me. show just average really and I'm indifferent if season 2 is ever made.
I hope, Like "The Expanse" this goes to Amazon and gets a proper budget.
I honestly can't help but feel burnt out on a lot of superhero content at this point, even straight up comics save for a few titles. It gets especially tiring when the umpteenth, "Let's dissect superhero morality in a gritty fashion" story comes along. Like... I could just go read what's going on with the X-Men, or reread Watchmen or Kingdom Come or something.
I grade games/TV shows/movies and anime the same way high school grades students… You got a five out of 10 someone’s calling your parents!!
Five out of ten is an F!!
This show got better. I liked it. watched the whole thing in one sitting today
Well the 1929 storyline is the only saving grace for this show in my opinion. I hate the modern stuff so much but I want to see more of the Union's past exploits.
Nice pool bro lol can see it in the tv and sounds like a fountain ga
Where you live I need a TV. Asking for a friend.
Austin Texas.
He said everything that you needed to hear. Great review
I liked the origin story up until the end, where some random abstract CGI rocks and particle effects floated in space and gave our guys their powers, fully fitted costumes and apparently full understanding of how to use their powers.
I'd rather prefer they found something in the cave that did something to them which they have to deal with and figure out by their own on their way home.
One of the best parts of Smallville (IMO really good superhero show, at least first few seasons) was Clark discovering his powers over time and gradually learning to use them. Not getting his costume, full list of abilities and knowledge about them in one instant.
Great review. What I am keeping from it: @ 6:09 *Joe's slomo face saying:* "8 hooourrsss"
I watched the whole thing and it grew on me by the last few episodes. I'm interested for what they have next
Huh that's weird. The flashbacks were easily the strongest and most entertaining part of the show. Yes some of the visuals were off and it ended abruptly, but the acting was great.
I liked Jupiter Legacy but it was a bit drawn out. I would have loved if each episode focused on one of the characters, give them more back story and explain or suggest why they get the powers they get. I also think the Code needs to evolve.
Spoiler:
The End fight needed to be more important and less stereotypical. Utopia and his son show up at the super prison, bodies everywhere but no blood/gore, no bits lying all over the place? IDW but it didn't feel serious, this guy is clobbering people with an antimatter heart but before that they basically had spent the entirety of the season in a cell reading romance novels with little reading glasses listening to classical, what a subversion of expectations. Why not go further? Instead of the baddy leaving his cell what if he just stayed in his cell and said something sarcastic and ironic about getting beat up and that is what whomever set him free wanted.
Now we’ll never know because season 2 was canceled 😭 I was looking forward to the betrayal and origin plots
