The real Sm58 has a full rounded sound. Not too crisp in the highs and a full bottom end. The cheap fake has no low end and just sounds tinny. The close fake is ok in the lows but sounds hollow in the mids. A dead giveaway on both fakes, the sound!
I would have not spotted it without one to compare to, and opening it up. The bolt holding the capsule is very different, one cheap, one precision with lock tight. Thanks.
This is why I usually only buy equipment from two suppliers. When buying online even from the world’s biggest online store buyer be ware. If it seems too good to be true it usually is!

The better fake made me so paranoid that I had to go check my mic case. They are getting way too good at this!

Ah well...more garbage mics to put on shelves...lol

@@codgerjim it's true...that was the parting wisdom I got from Shure
just found your channel and i like how do your mic tests. do u have plans to test the comica vm40 wireless 32bit float boom mic?
@@im_gldn not sure yet
It may be in the plans
@@DarkCornerStudios nice looking forward to it.
Thanks for the vid!
Impressive!
Looks like you have one ball that's way bigger than the other and it is oddly shaped. That can't be good
Lol
I have a chance a telling as i see a few of them every week
I would have no clue as to which were fakes. That’s why I buy my tech gear from venders that I know I can trust.
The "obvious fake" is a pyle pdmic58 (have both in hand)
If i didn't want a customize sm7b or sm58 in the future I would just buy from shure
The fake sm58 dome looks like the q2u head
@@theoutsiderjess1869 good point!!
Samson surplus ... hilarious.
I could see the weave differences on all the balls, but i am also somewhat cheating as i own one of these so i've seen it in person.
They must surpass the original at this point. And provide it at cheap!

@DarkCornerStudios 😅 I got carried away!
So if I buy a fake SM58 for 20$ then I get a great deal. Good.
