Juan Castro mine is working up there... with computer chronicles x series. I’m pretty it’s will be better than Original Computer Chronicles X back in 80s-2002
Micomsoft and RetroGamingCables should both sponsor you, they definitely just made a ton of money off of me. =P Thanks for all the hard work you put into this series of videos, they've been most helpful.
Avalanche Reviews [Try4ce] For the capture, I used my modded SNES mini, which outputs a sharper image than older SNES. Out of curiosity, I looked at the same shot in A Link to the Past on my original system, and on "standard" mode, you can't even tell that there IS a texture on that floor. "Picture" at least makes it visible. So yeah, I can imagine, especially for older SNES systems, it would make a big difference in other areas too.
+BlayzedBlue [Try4ce] The funny thing is, Micomsoft released a MAJOR update right after we made this episode, and a good chunk of this is a bit outdated, due to the fact that you can load and save profiles now. People who are are FAR less lazy about really perfecting their settings have come up with some brilliant stuff that you can download, and use yourself. If you have your Framemeister updated to at least 2.00, check out this website and download his profiles! We want to do a video on this once a few more systems are covered in these profiles: www.firebrandx.com/pixelpurist.html
Hey guys, thanks to you I dropped over $500 into having RGB perfection... stupid sexy scanlines. Anyway I don't know where this information would be most helpful but I noticed that the Framemeister DOES NOT play well with HDMI ports that have MHL. The picture will cut out and never return when the resolution changes on the fly (ex: using the 480i test with the 240p test suite rom) It will also cut out if you turn the console on and off too quickly. You should see the "Output Link" light flash repeatedly and the picture just won't come back. All these problems vanished when I switched over to another HDMI port that doesn't support MHL. Please let me know if this is old news (Google didn't have any hits) or if I'm mistaken. Oh and thanks for the hard work guys, you two and the game sack guys are becoming fast favorites.
Some TVs, like my LG, don't turn off overscan in Game Mode. But putting it in PC Mode, not only turned of any kind of image smoothing, overscan and interpolating framecrap, it also turns on true RGB. PC Mode also helps on older Samsung TVs, on HDMI 1 only. Some TVs don't even have those settings, mostly it helps to rename the input to Game or PC.
After so many years of checking out your guys videos and i finally had the courage to purchase a framemeister. So happy that i did. Way better being able to use RGB now. The only downside now is that i did not realize that there was a new version of of the retrotink in 4K coming out. Ohh well. This will be put to good use for hopefully many years to come. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.
I don't even have a framemeister yet, and I still think these videos are absolutely fantastic. You two are doing a great job with all of your content. Keep up the good work!
I highly recommend the Spears & Munsil HD Benchmark 2nd Edition calibration disc. It has a good set of basic easy-to-use patterns that are more than adequate for most, but it also has an insane amount of advanced patterns for anything you could possibly want to calibrate. It's a professional-level tool where some of the patterns are actually meant to be used with a scope.
For a cheaper alternative to the Digital Video Essentials calibration disc, check out Disney's World of Wonder. It even has something DVE doesn't, called the Pixel Flipper which may help fix stuck pixels on an LCD or burn-in on a plasma display. Tekzilla did an excellent video showing this disc in action.
Finally got my Framemeister today, though now I got to get the RGB cables to really see the difference, and I'm following all these instructions, as well as the RGB 200 series to find better picture quality for my games.
Hey thanks for referencing that Mischief Makers letterboxing issue! Now I know it's not a problem with any particular console or upscaler settings, it's just how the game is.
The 6th generation consoles don't output a 4:3 aspect ratio, it uses what is called DVD resolution you can fix it by selecting Normal2 in Screen Set. The 240p test suite can help but in it's options disable 240p scaling to 480p (to get proper sizes in DVD resolution) then go to linearity. :3
[Try4ce] Since this video released, Micomsoft released firmware that allows the loading and saving of profiles. To get even better results, we recommend the profiles over at The Pixel Purist! www.firebrandx.com/framemeisterprofiles.html
Thanks for making this amazing video. It made my life easier to setup my Framemeister for different scenarios. Also, it is a great reference if ever I need to make adjustments in the future. Truly well done guys! :)
Thank you for the quick reply. I will take a look next time im on it and look for that function. You guys are great! I will look into that website. I have RGB cables coming in for the snes soon as well as a 1 chip snes I found on eBay. Can't wait. I also look forward to a settings video for the n64!
Another wonderful video. I can't thank you guys enough for taking the time and effort to put these great resources together. These should be more popular.
Just got my framemeister last week. I find Game2 to be my favourite image mode. Does Linear/Bob deinterlacing which looks a lot more reliable than Natural or Picture which does some sort of adaptive deinterlace, often missing some places. You get a bit of flicker on 480i stuff, but using the veritcal scaling option to smooth it over helps a lot. I'm actually amazed how good everything looks even with just composite.
11:00 that's why I love the save load data feature, create a perfect preset for the console, save it, go and do something (I dunno, masterbate), power TV xrgb and consoles back on, and reload the settings all good to go
[Coury] Yeah, it's pretty great too based on what I've messed with. We aren't opposed to doing ".1" episodes for updates and new info as they come a long. For instance we'd do a 301.1 for this down the road.
I strongly recommended Movie mode for 480i games instead of Natural. It may look nice and colorful at first but it just oversaturates the colors to the point where you start to lose details. If your are using a Samsung TV, setting the Input name to PC will reduce lag even more than Game mode but you may lose some picture detail. Also, It is now recommended by the community that Sharpness be set to 0 no matter what as even setting it to 1 creates artifacts.
There are also video calibration slides you can find on the internet and output to your TV over HDMI/VGA if you don't want to spend money on calibration software. Example: www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ Finding "neutral" or "optimal" settings on modern TVs can be kind of complicated, though, as those settings can even change between different input sources. My new Sony Bravia, for example, has to be set to 50 sharpness for HDMI sources but 25 sharpness for component sources with native-res 1080p content. For 480p component sources, 50 seems to be the medium setting for that as well. It would have been difficult to narrow this down without some kind of test slides to run, and it's important to get the TV settings right before you fiddle with settings on external processors like the Framemeister. Would you guys be interested in covering similar topics for the XRGB-3 or other scalers if people could supply enough info for you to do it justice?
Sixfortyfive [Coury] This is all very true. I'll be using the calibration tools you recommended for myself since I don't own the DVE stuff. We'd be very into doing similar topics for other scalers. Now that we have these different levels established, the sky is really the limit. Although we started with focusing on the Framemeister itself, the idea has evolved to be more about RGB in general, so that opens a ton of options for us. But, as I'm sure you can relate to, this stuff can get very expensive over time. But we'd love to (and plan to!) get into other scalers and even just hardware in general associated with improving video quality.
***** Just keep in mind that if you calibrate using a different source video levels might be different. This variation is true for analog signals, but not serious. However, if you use a PC keep in mind the difference between NTSC/7.5 IRE setup and digital (0 IRE) video levels. This only applies for video material, game consoles are capable of full range color output.
If you use tools like DVE Essentials you'll be adjusting for the wrong color space, since HD uses a different color encoding from classic NTSC and PAL.
[Coury] This is something that we'd love to get into in the future - but neither of us actually have a 4k TV yet. As soon as we do, you bet we'd cover it.
Thank you. From what I've gathered, there doesn't seem to be any noticeable differences, but it would still be an interesting topic for y'all to cover in the future. :)
It will probably vary a lot based on the type of 4K, as there are several resolutions that qualify. A quad HD TV would probably be the best for a Framemeister, as it is simply 4x the size of 1080p, but I can't be sure on that as I don't have a 4K TV
Hey guys....BTW, Thank you for all the useful information you guys have provided over the years about the XRGB MINI. I have one now!!! Buuutttt....I'm seeing some things that only you guys might be able to explain. The game in the screen sometimes goes out for a few seconds, and then come back. The sound is there, but the picture disappears. Also I notice that this does not happen to all the games I play. Is it the cart, the console or the upscaler? and also.....while I was playing around with the settings, I inadvertently set the image in a way that I dont like. And I can't seem to find a way to change it back to default settings....as in as it was when it came out of the box. Would you guys be able to guide me through these issues? Thanks a whole lot and keep these very helpful videos coming.
[Try4ce] The sync drop you are experiencing may be related to resolution changing. This is a problem common on Saturn, and to a lesser extent, PS1. Often it is simply the title screen being 480i, but the gameplay is 240p. However, it's much worse in a game like Chrono Cross or Silent Hill, where the menus are 480i. Unfortunately, it can't really be helped. This is a consequence of the Framemeister correctly handling 240p (devices that incorrectly handle 240p as 480i may handle the switch more seamlessly). If that is not the issue, then I'm not too sure what it could be. As for settings, we strongly recommend downloading the profiles from here and loading them up for each system: firebrandx.com/framemeisterprofiles.html At the time we made this video, save/load functionality didn't exist yet.
Hey T...I just realized this. Why did I even bother buying a Framemeister...when all I needed to do was to fork out about the same amount of money...for a nice Sony or Olympus19" or 20" PVM Monitor?!? Ofcourse I have to get the right hook ups and all....but this just dawned on me. I have the room for it too! And with a PVM monitor, i get the most authentic image, resolution, no lag...and most of all....None of these sync drop issues!!! I'd like to know your thoughts? Thanks Again...you guys have been very valuable.
Great series of videos!, thanks a lot for collecting that information in a compelling way. I was wondering if you have any plans to give some tips about how to get good sound quality out of our consoles. For example, I've been using my sega genesis (model 2) on a Sony PVM with an SCART cable, but I've struggling to have a good audio.
[Try4ce] To be honest we mostly use 4X for 240p, 4X for 480i, and 2X for 480p and don't do much else. Some people get deep into optimized sampling settings, but at the moment that's not how we prefer to use the OSSC.
This is an amazing series you guys a doing. It pretty much single handedly convinced me to get a Framemeister, and your videos provide so much helpful information. I'm wondering tho. Is the Framemeister still "supported" by Micomsoft? The newest English firmware seems to be almost 2 years old.
Captain N [Coury] I've thought about this a bit recently, and its hard to say. I think they'd be crazy to not continue supporting it. I've heard rumors via cryptic posts over at shmups.system11.org forums that there is another firmware in the works that could bring profiles, but who knows.
Captain N The XRGB-3 is still supported (it just got a substantial update in the past couple of months, actually, and you can still buy it new from them), so I doubt Micomsoft has ditched the Mini, which is a newer model.
I'm using a Retrotink2x with my Vizio TV and the sharpness I have it's 50 as neutral, if I put it 0 it'll look really blurry, I'm really aware of the fake sharpness if it's pumped up to 100, I use the 240p test suite to check out the sharpness screen
For me the best settings for a Samsung TV is to turn PC Mode on, it disables all image processing and even gray out all of then, after it, i just have to adjust the minor settings that are available on PC Mode.
I Love your channel guys, I have been beefing up my retro collection . So, I would like to thank both of you for informing us and inspiring me re-experience the games that made me a gamer in the first place and much more. Also, what is the game at 10:28?
[Try4ce] You referring to the picture of the girl? If so, that's Persona 4 (one of my favorite RPGs!). If you're referring to the next shot, with the little yellow bird, that's The New Zealand Story, specifically the Mega Drive version (actually kind of a bad version in my opinion!).
+Joe Pearson [Try4ce] You can find a lot about the OSSC in RGB 105, but it doesn't get deep into settings, and it was from when it was first released, so options were limited anyway. We will soon be doing a video about 4K TVs, which will feature some be OSSC stuff, and we may do more dedicated videos in the future.
Wooaah somany options, how nifty is that, now you can equalize the the colors from ntsc sources like the nes were color red is over saturated whareas light blue is undersaturated, i also like the abilitie to zoom in,and i am soo releaved in that i am not the only one the zoom in on the supergameboy so you can play gb games at full screen, the same could be also done with superfx games like starfox, stunts race fx etc,,,, oh man i got to get one!!!
[Try4ce] And since we released this video, they did a firmware update where you can save/load profiles to the microSD card, and trade/share them with others! We plan to do a short video on this feature in the future.
Great video as always guys!!!! Do you know the difference to GAME MODE and the input name PC/ PC DVI in Samsung Tv's? They say the lag is less in the second.
Marcelo Ramos [Coury] I've heard this was the case with earlier Samsung's, but it no longer is. Have you seen anything saying that this is the same for newer TVs?
***** Instead of Game Mode, I changed my input label for the PS4 and retro consoles (via Framemeister) source to PC. I have a Samsung TV, but I think the input lag is much better than Game Mode.
Marcelo Ramos Samsung: Press the [Source] button on the remote, hover over HDMI, press the [Tool] button, select [Edit Name], then select [PC] : www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag
I took your advice to try game mode and man was it garbage on my tv. Instantly had onscreen noise and interference. My LCD tv naturally handles old systems really well with no lag that I can tell so it wasn't a big deal just was surprised that game mode made it so so so bad.
Label Me Justin It's awful on my tv as well. Someone on youtube luckily had great settings for my tb that he implemented using expensive tuning equipment. So i just use those. In my case game mode murders color.
Hi. What's the difference between component cables and RGB cables? Don't they both separate the colors? Where can RGC cables be bought for Dreamcast and retro consoles?
+SevenDeMagnus [Try4ce] Yep, they are very similar, but they are different ways of transmitting the signal, so they aren't the same thing. Totally different signals. Older systems don't support YPbPr, which is what is normally meant by component. Check our video descriptions for links to cables stores!
Hi. Thanks. RGB is the way to go and I thought composite was the pinnacle of retro, save for VGA which I think is higher than RGC or are they the same quality? I hope and pray the people who invents the RGB mods and cables for retro consoles all come together form their own company, a RGC retro consortium maybe with Kickstarter, create a cable to rule them all (all retros will output RGB maybe extracted the colors from composite if that's possible) so there's no more modding and can output to VGA coz' I think a good affordable VGA PC CRT monitors have the same quality as a a BVM (or they are not) so that with one cable, all retros output to RGB and can use the Light guns for all retros. I think they can do that with a small FPGA (maybe two small ones for the sound) chip inside the cable that knows what console is playing, extracts the colors and stuff off the composite cables (even the sound is made better). Better yet they can form a consortium or a company pool the resources and actually create an affordable easy to setup (with that one cable to rule them all RGB) 480p to lower than 280p gaming consoles, CRT TV pixel, geometry perfect and color perfect (what the developers intended on their development monitors) that is capable of having not scanlines or scanlines- honestly scanlines make things darker- developers probably wished they filled up all the lines, had more resolution in their games. I think this consortium this company would revolutionize retro gaming. Maybe combine PAL's advantage on color with NTSC's fps/hz. And this retro gaming TV works with all light guns. My Life in Gaming could initiate these RGB Kickstarter, bring all the talents together into one giant company:-) God bless. Rev. 21:4
I sometimes have issues with being able to use options on my framemeister. Sometimes certain options are greyed out and unusable and I can't really figure out way, any clue?
+RamuneGaming [Try4ce] Usually it's because some setting is selected that negates the need for those settings, or overrides them. For example, if Zoom is on, then Screen settings aren't useable. Turn Zoom off, and you can choose them again.
Hello MY Life In Gaming, I have Neo Geo CMVS console. I’m having a problem with the screen flickering and jittering. I went to the menu in my Framemeister and changed the SYNC MODE to Off. That didn’t work I’m still having the same issue. Is there any other option you can suggest to me to try in the Framemeister settings?
[Try4ce] Is this one of the ones that was on Alibaba earlier this year? I don't know much about them. I think I heard that something was off with the sync on them, but I don't know the details. I think they can be fixed to work more correctly, though.
My Life in Gaming No Sir, It’s actually a brand new Omega CMVS. The picture looks absolutely amazing but the image will not stop flickering. Hope you can help me with this.
Did you have issues with the HDMI passthrough? When selecting "Full RGB output range", colors are obviously better as I am using a PC monitor which only have RGB. However, the screen blinks intermittently when I am playing GTA V on the PS4 (using the Limited Range output range removes this issue). The weirdest part is that it seems to do that only with GTA V, PS4 menu works perfectly and same applies to other games I have tested so far...
Question for you guys: I just got my framemeister, and it’s having issues displaying some composite and S-Video Inputs. In particular, my NES, SNES, and Laserdisc player keep displaying on and off for a second or so, then the screen goes completely black until the input is turned off. Music will play while the screen is black. I’ve messed with the sync settings. Turning off auto makes the screen blink on the SNES, but it fixes my nes. Any suggestions? FYI, I already updated to 2.03. (Maybe I should reformat my SD card and try again?)
[Try4ce] Is that the latest firmware? The lastest fixed some 4K TV compatibility issues. That's odd, never had sync issues with those systems on it. I haven't tried Laserdisc, but VHS does have sync issues sometimes.
My Life in Gaming I went on Micomsoft’s website, but there wasn’t a link to 2.04. I heard it was on their Twitter, I’ll try looking there later. Thanks for replying, and so fast! I will say, The framemeister made my brother, who hates old things, like Genesis Games.
My Life in Gaming I fixed the issue, by putting the output of the framemeister to 1080p - 50p. I live in the US, so I don’t understand why this fixed it, but it did. Just happy. Thank for responding, if you have any idea of WHY this fixed it, I’d appreciate the knowledge. Oddly enough, this worked without tweaking on my brother’s 4K Tv: go figure. Anyway, you guys are one of the two channels that I follow vehemently, the other being The Retro Future, you should check him out sometime, if you haven’t already. Thanks for everything!
I have a Samsung LED TV and switching to Game Mode has the TV adjust the brightness depending on the scene which can get really annoying. Also switching the Framemeister to passthrough the HDMI actually causes my AverMedia not to show the picture?
UnboxedTV [Try4ce] You should dig deeper into your settings to find "Dynamic Contrast" or something like that. The shot in the video is also from a Samsung TV, so it might be in a similar spot. I'd be very surprised if these features couldn't be disabled independent of Game Mode. I've had capture card issues with HDMI passthrough if the video signal is not the same as the Framemeister's output. For example, a PS3 game might boot at 720p, but the Framemeister is set to 1080p, so OBS won't display it at the right size. PS4 and Wii U (not sure about Xbox One) always output 1080p if you have the system set at 1080p, even if the game is running internally at 720p (or some other resolution).
UnboxedTV [Coury] I had the same issue with my samesung and it turns out it was the "HDMI Black Level" that was causing it. If it is set to "low" it will brighten and dim, and if its set to "Normal" it won't do that.
on the Pixel Purist site, he has the profiles to be downloaded... if the best I have for Dreamcast would be Svideo would I use PS2 profile or Xbox profile? I have a VGA adapter but I dont have a way to change it to work with the RBG mini
+Doug Plummer (douglie007) [Try4ce] I'm not sure. Unfortunately, loading profiles to inputs they weren't designed for doesn't seem to work like the "Load/Select" option seems to suggest. I would look at scaler and zoom settings for another profile, write down the details, and recreate it on the S-video input (which shares settings with composite). My best guess would be to look at interlaced settings for GameCube or PS2. Don't forget to set the picture mode to "Natural" so that it deinterlaces.
+My Life in Gaming Thank you Try4ce, what do you use for your dreamcast input? not the setting but to get the video to the framemiester? I didnt know if it would be worth getting a SCART for it.
[Try4ce] We both use the Toro VGA box by Behar Bros. It allows VGA or SCART output in 480p. Dreamcast will not output 480p over a native SCART, but it works going through the Toro.
Maybe I missed it somewhere but I'm expecting my XRGB the end of June or early July and would like to know what I should do out of the box? Is there a link to a source for updating firmware as I believe everything is in Japanese initially. I'm hoping to be prepared upon arrival for my Genesis 2 and Atari 2600. I odered cables this morning from your recommended ebay seller. I also used your link to order the XRGB. ☺️
+Dagny T [Try4ce] Do a Google search to find the XRGB mini wiki. They have great instructions and links for updating the firmware. FYI, this video is a bit out of date, as saving/loading profiles is now possible. Search for "the Pixel Purist" to find great profiles you can load via micro SD card.
The wiki and Pixel Purist have been a great help. Just bought a Sony TV and I set the display area at Full Pixel. My confusion is now what Wide Mode to set it on. Normal or Full? Both look great BUT Normal seems narrow side to side, whereas Full seems more stretched. My Sega and Atari 2600 both look awesome but one seems too narrow and the other too wide based on the 240P original source with 1080P out of the XRGB.
Fernando Chiquelho [Try4ce] It remembers unique settings per input, but if you want to make unique presets for various systems using the same input, then sadly not. This is why we're just lazy and use the presets most of the time, which produce very good results on the systems that we use. 85% of the time I'm on "Game" auto-scaling and "Picture" for the image mode. I just change those to "Video" and "Natural" for 480i sources, so it's a pretty quick and simple thing using pre-existing presets.
Hey there, I was wondering if any of you guys would be willing to disassemble your Framemeister and take some hi-res photos of the PCB (or pop the PCB into a scanner)? I tried googling for some but can't seem to find any. I'm looking at creating a much more affordable alternative to it, and I'm curious to see what ICs they used for their excellent end result. Right now I'm currently prototyping something that works pretty well, and am in contact with a chinese chip manufacturer that makes a great chip that does the conversion from RGB/YUV/etc. to HDMI with very little to no lag, but I'm really curious what the XRGB Mini uses. Might be the same one, for all I know. But I'm also curious what other stuff they use.
+KyoshoLP [Try4ce] Unfortunately we're not comfortable taking ours apart, but you should check out the Shmups hardware forums, which is where a lot of Framemeister and scaler talk goes down... I'm sure people there already know way more than what a simple photo could tell you: shmups.system11.org/viewforum.php?f=6&sid=d121aa19070b3fedca54158f50d21c18 Also, we're hopefully soon going to release an episode about Framemeister alternatives, featuring a newer "homemade" option that may be much like what you're considering.
Please never stop doing this - love this channel
I swear, I have watched almost all of these guys videos like 3 times each
Theyre amazing nerd out videos.
Your videos are of astonishingly high quality.
i know right? better than 99% of actual tv shows, really pro level stuff. dug this video most of all, so many hidden gems of info here.
Juan Castro mine is working up there... with computer chronicles x series. I’m pretty it’s will be better than Original Computer Chronicles X back in 80s-2002
Y,know they're high quality when they have their own name and reference graphic at the bottom left.
What you call "doing it for the culture" one of the best channels around with videos thatll be gems for years to come.
Micomsoft and RetroGamingCables should both sponsor you, they definitely just made a ton of money off of me. =P
Thanks for all the hard work you put into this series of videos, they've been most helpful.
Holy crap!!! That "picture" mode made my snes wayyyyyy sharper! Well done gentlemen.
Damn I didn't know the mini was so much better. Gonna keep my eye out for a a good price on ebay.
Absolutely the best video in the Framemeister on UA-cam. Thank you so much for doing what no one else has: Show how to actually USE IT!
+BlayzedBlue [Try4ce] The funny thing is, Micomsoft released a MAJOR update right after we made this episode, and a good chunk of this is a bit outdated, due to the fact that you can load and save profiles now.
This channel has changed my whole retro gaming experience. This device is worth it.Just get passed the small learning curve an your set.
You guys are awesome.I love the quality of the production, very informative.
I could watch your videos all day keep up the great work

Ryan Rardin Disney made a disc helps fix stuck pixels and burn in!?
i love my framemeister and your right it dose take a little tweeking to get it setup right but its well worth taking the time to do it.
Finally got my Framemeister today, though now I got to get the RGB cables to really see the difference, and I'm following all these instructions, as well as the RGB 200 series to find better picture quality for my games.
I turned sharpness all the way down and now the picture is great! Thank you!
The “Full Pixel / Screen Fit” option is also called “Overscan” on some TVs.
Great work again on the video guys, looking forward to working with you on the next one!
Hey thanks for referencing that Mischief Makers letterboxing issue! Now I know it's not a problem with any particular console or upscaler settings, it's just how the game is.
Excellent video again, guys!
Great video! I'm planning on getting an xRGB-mini real soon
Picture smoothing: "Turn that crap off!" LOVE IT!
thank you again for the information, super glad to see your youtube channel is growing as well.
The autoscaler help to game mode makes all the difference! Thanks for looking out
[Try4ce] Since this video released, Micomsoft released firmware that allows the loading and saving of profiles.
Keep the XRGB Wiki bookmarked for easy reference!
This is actually a really important tutorial. Thanks! 😊
I don't even play retro consoles but I love these videos.
Thank you for the quick reply. I will take a look next time im on it and look for that function. You guys are great! I will look into that website. I have RGB cables coming in for the snes soon as well as a 1 chip snes I found on eBay. Can't wait. I also look forward to a settings video for the n64!
Ahhhh I see now. Thank you so much sir! You are a gentleman and a scholar!
Love you guys! Thanks so much for this video. I really think I'm going to take the plunge at pick up a Framemeister. Great stuff guys!
Another wonderful video. I can't thank you guys enough for taking the time and effort to put these great resources together. These should be more popular.
Great channel, and info I can't for the life of me find anywhere else!
I'm actually amazed how good everything looks even with just composite.
can’t wait to get my framemeister
Hey guys thanks for the tips for the TV settings, really enjoy your videos, greetings.
Digital decay
We’ve come a long way in upscaling the last decade. Retrotink FTW
Another name for that full pixel mode that's seen on a lot of HDTVs is 'Just Scan'.
Another great episode, thank you gyuus and keep going
thanks for the very important tips this is very useful i love this channel keep up the good work
3:16 PREACH IT!
There's a hair on top of your NES at 0:53.
But your head is shaved....
[Coury] Haha, that's Try's set up even though I'm doing the VO for that part.
Oh yeah, I remember it from the episode where he's lounging around in front of his TV.
Mellow Gaming
I am just amazed how you were able to notice it for a split second.
Heh. I'm a nerd for details. I think it comes from when I worked in video game QA for a year.
Firmeware 2.00a now has a preset save and load option which is ideal for various retro consoles.
BASS INVADER * [Try4ce] Yup, we will follow up with more on this in the future!
*****
Cheers keep up the great work! ;)
11:00 that's why I love the save load data feature, create a perfect preset for the console, save it, go and do something (I dunno, masterbate), power TV xrgb and consoles back on, and reload the settings all good to go
Great video as always guys, Micomsoft should pay you :p
Cool video. I also noticed that the framemeister team releases firmware 2.00
It has some new features and menu restructuring.
[Coury] Yeah, it's pretty great too based on what I've messed with. We aren't opposed to doing ".1" episodes for updates and new info as they come a long. For instance we'd do a 301.1 for this down the road.
Class is in session, kids.

*greetings! and welcome to episode n°301 of LGR Thrifts*
There are also video calibration slides you can find on the internet and output to your TV over HDMI/VGA if you don't want to spend money on calibration software.
Example:
www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
Finding "neutral" or "optimal" settings on modern TVs can be kind of complicated, though, as those settings can even change between different input sources.
*****
I could certainly help you with lots of XRGB3 info.
love you guys
How about an episode about the Sega Saturn?
Great video!
So professional it makes me uncomfortable.
If you use tools like DVE Essentials you'll be adjusting for the wrong color space, since HD uses a different color encoding from classic NTSC and PAL.
Rewatching this now, if it’s not a tall order would you guys ever have interest in making a comprehensive guide like this for the OSSC?
[Try4ce] While far from comprehensive, there's a lot of OSSC stuff in our new RGB 106, on 4K TVs.
My Life in Gaming Thanks for the reply! Somehow I guess the OSSC section of that video completely flew by my head? Always worth a rewatch though!
I wouldn't mind seeing a video like this for the OSSC.
Cae Herlin
The "Framemeister Alternatives" video pretty much all you need to know about the OSSC.
Well, no, that video doesn't go quite so in depth with the granular settings, not to mention how much the OSSC has been updated since then.
Whoa! At the 0:55 mark, it looks like you guys found an awesome SCART switcher. How's it been working out for you guys? It looks legit!
How well does a Framemeister work on a 4K TV?
[Coury] This is something that we'd love to get into in the future - but neither of us actually have a 4k TV yet. As soon as we do, you bet we'd cover it.
Thank you. From what I've gathered, there doesn't seem to be any noticeable differences, but it would still be an interesting topic for y'all to cover in the future. :)
I know it doesn't. I was just curious how 4K tvs interpret the signal from the Framemeister.
No Problem, with my setup in any way. Framemeister F/W ver 2.03a with Sony Bravia 4K TV.
Thank You So much Tryce! I'm beginning to understand it a bit more everytime. Thanks again!!! More Power to your channel.
Can you guys please do this kind video with the OSSC?
Could you please do an episode on OSSC settings?
There's always hope.
I really appreciate you guys helping us out in this jungle of RBG mumbo jumbo.
Captain N The XRGB-3 is still supported (it just got a substantial update in the past couple of months, actually, and you can still buy it new from them), so I doubt Micomsoft has ditched the Mini, which is a newer model.
Would you ever consider making a video for CRT video settings?
[Try4ce] We still hope to do a video that gets into the service menu aspect of CRTs, we promised it years ago.
My Life in Gaming Cool!
I want one, just cause that cool remote
I recently upgraded the firmware and zoom feature doesn't work. it won't let me go left and right for some reason.
+Deltax5 [Try4ce] You can't move left or right if you aren't zoomed in at least a certain amount.
ok i got it. you have to pick the zoom mode first then you can use it. Thanks :)
Can you please do a video on the (OSSC) Open Source Scan Converter Please would love to see you're settings
Ok thanks for heads up i look forward to the video :)
So do you both still use the same settings as you did in this video? or have your settings changed over time (as it has been a bit more than 2 years).
There is a TV in my parents house that is a Philips TV and it has a PC mode instead of a game mode but it seems to do the same thing.
What is that device with many scart ports at 0:55 - 0:58? I have never seen a scart switch like that.
Google "gscartsw".
Videogame Bucko
Probably the most elusive gizmo I have seen. Considering I have had terrible luck finding any other "good" scart switcher.
Anyone know what the neutral sharpness level is for Sony Bravia XBR 4k tvs?
50 (the middle position) is neutral. I have the XBR-55X810C and had to look up the same question on rtings.com
Label Me Justin
It's awful on my tv as well. Someone on youtube luckily had great settings for my tb that he implemented using expensive tuning equipment. So i just use those. In my case game mode murders color.
the V_Line is no longer on version 2.03a. I really can't find it anywhere... Have you found it?
My Life in Gaming could initiate these RGB Kickstarter, bring all the talents together into one giant company:-)
God bless. Rev.
What micro sd card you use for firmware update?
[Try4ce] Any will do. It can be very small.
4:17 - No need to buy anything. Just download AVS HD 709. It's a free set of display calibration patterns from the AVS forums.
+Edwin Contreras [Coury] Thanks for this! Will definitely give it a shot.
my framemeister shows my RGB image in Black and White and I can't find any answers online. please help!
Hello MY Life In Gaming,
I have Neo Geo CMVS console.
My Life in Gaming
No Sir,
It’s actually a brand new Omega CMVS. The picture looks absolutely amazing but the image will not stop flickering. Hope you can help me with this.
Do both of have the frameister English overlaying sheet for the remote
[Try4ce] I don't have one, I normally use a universal remote with mine.
[Try4ce] I don't recall any pass through issues. I usually don't use full range because it can screw up captures on my capture card sometimes.
My Life in Gaming sadly, I don’t have a 4K TV.
Would you know of any profiles made for PAL resolutions which give simulator results to FirebrandX's custom profiles?
on the Pixel Purist site, he has the profiles to be downloaded... if the best I have for Dreamcast would be Svideo would I use PS2 profile or Xbox profile?
Dreamcast will not output 480p over a native SCART, but it works going through the Toro.
i have a quesstion what if you want to watch time waner cable on your tv while still play your games what do i do.
Does the HDMI Direct also have the same input lag the framemeister processing has?
[Try4ce] Not sure but I don't fully trust that mode anyway. It impacts the colors even though it shouldn't.
@@mylifeingaming Thought I might need to know since the HDMI switcher keeps blacking out
Maybe I missed it somewhere but I'm expecting my XRGB the end of June or early July and would like to know what I should do out of the box?
I just got The FrameMeister and it's says FIRM_VER 2.04. The English language setting is broken when I switch it from Japanese language?
can I save the settings as presets so I don't have to change the settings all the time, because that should be a must on something that expensive
I'm sure people there already know way more than what a simple photo could tell you: shmups.system11.org/viewforum.php?f=6&sid=d121aa19070b3fedca54158f50d21c18
Also, we're hopefully soon going to release an episode about Framemeister alternatives, featuring a newer "homemade" option that may be much like what you're considering.
