My service dog Hazel can detect my seizures five minutes from they occur, it's given me time to prepare for one. It's been life saving for me and in the past without out her I've had many close calls with not breathing or I would fall while standing. With her now I can hace peace of mind that she can save me from nothing too severe that I can have a seizure and let it pass. She my guardian Angel and my happiness in a day to day life.
@@RbibiRodriguez hi, there are many organizations for service dogs it all depends on re search and finding one that can help you. I trained my Hazel from the time she was a puppy with the help of a friend who is a trainer. I'm not familiar with any organization except for one and it for children. I hope this helps I know it's not much.
Do you have memory of the episode starting and afterwards? I collapsed with no memory of even walking into work and I came to an hour later thinking I had fallen asleep. Boy was I shocked when my boss was staring up me swearing I just had a grand mal seizure.
Not only can dogs detect these smells, but their brains also separate and distinguish all the different combined smells into their individual components. For example, five out of ten people could touch an object, and a trained dog would be able to determine those five people out of the line-up -- knowing exactly who touched the object. It's something we could never fathom with our human brains, but it's absolutely remarkable. For a dog, it may well be their primary sense, even greater than their eyesight; i.e. literally seeing "images" in their brains with their noses alone.
From personal experience, I think I would say that I'd prefer to know that a seizure is coming ahead of time. Just doing normal work one minute, then starting to get a "wrong" feeling, and then waking up to paramedics and half the office looking down at me, with a face full of shock, confusion, and a little bit of disgust. It was embarrassing, painful, confusing, and frustrating. I wish I was lucky enough to know it would happen ahead of time. Would have made it less scary.
@@brookeheister glad to hear they have been gone for three years. But May i ask which type of epilepsy u had, and at what age you didn’t get them anymore
Recently I've been watching many videos about the service dogs 'cause they never fail to impress me - it's amazing, how they can sniff out seizures, but also are used by people with for example the migraine or things like that.
i have a disorder that causes problems ranging from migraines, insanely low drops and spikes in blood pressure, or fainting my little 5 pound cat always acts out when these symptoms occur she meows relentlessly, pacing back and fourth around me, running up to my family members and darting to the other room where i am, sitting on my chest until i wake up usually licking my hands and face
My Australian shepherd sat in front of my aunt as she was standing in my kitchen and started whining loudly while looking at her and not even 3 minutes later she started having a seizure. I had no idea why he was whining until it happened and then i knew exactly what he was trying to tell us. I couldn't believe it. So crazy.
This really makes sense. Sometimes, if I'm alone and wake up from a seizure, the first way I know I had one is by a body oder that I smell. A high level arm pit type oder. This is usually what let's me know I had one if it's minor, because I don't feel any pain from a seizure until the next day, unless I was injured or not breathing for a long time.
I suffer from some head injuries and need a seizure dog. I also now provide training to those other that may need it. My dog has saved me a ton. His training has allowed me to get to hospitals on time. Which then I force them to induce the seizure because let's get it over with. My dog cost me a good chunk of money but there really isn't a price tag on quality of life. I love my dog. He's been better than my parents. Please. If you need one, get it.
I wonder if this is the same reason that cats seem to sense seizures too. My cats are all over my mom if she has a seizure or starts to feel like she will soon
My dog gets very uneasy whenever my brother is about to get a seizure,he stats walking around him and crying . I’m thinking about training him to help him
Alia Ris I don’t know. From my understanding it’s an allergen in pet animal fur ( my dad is allergic to it). I always thought if you were allergic to one you’d be allergic to the other, but it could be different in your case.
There are certain dogs that are hypoallergenic which means that’s people can’t be allergic to them. They might not be smart enough to be trained though.
Trying to imagine the convo dog trainers have to ask people in order to have aids for smell training "Litsen I need your sweat... and like a lot of it... right after you have a seizure"😳😬
Aren't they supposed to collect the samples during the aura? What's the benefit, if it is real, of a dog knowing the person is already having the seizure, or just had one.
I have epilepsy and have seizures in my sleep... I atill livw with my parents and i feel if i move out on my own my mom is going to he hella paranoid. I would love to get a seizure medical dog... My seizures aren't often but I still run the risk. I could be laying in my back and suffocate during a seizure
Can you do a sea animal size comparison? (Because of the dinosaur comparison, and put the prehistoric & present animals, and label present animals blue, and prehistoric red.)
Scientists should attempt to look at the chemical structure of normal people's sweat, and the sweat of those having the seizures. There might be a genuine physical difference in shape. If not, we always have our good bois.
