The 289, started out life as the 221 in 1962, overtime it was bored out to a larger displacement, in 1968 it was maxed out at 302 cubic inches. Remained unchanged until it went out of production in 2001, arguably one of the most reliable engines Ford ever made along with the 300 inline 6 which literally will run until the end of time.

Thats great info! I didn't know it started as the 221. Im pretty sure this is the original engine as far as we know, runs great
