I’m in the process of restoring a 65 mustang in absolute mint shape!!! It’s my girlfriend’s grandmother and I asked her if I could get it running again cars been under a tarp in a garage for about 7 years and stoked to start on it next week

All I can tell you is it’s a process and never plan on getting out of it what you put in. If you go into with that mindset you won’t be disappointed.

My favorite year of first-gen Mustang. These aren't uncommon but they're still nice-looking, friendly cars. It's nice to see a low-option car with the straight six and an auto just to be different. The straight-style gauge cluster was shared with the Falcon. A car like this would have been a stylish commuter car back in the day. The Mustang wasn't intended to be a performance car at first, partly evidenced by the 289 being the largest engine installed factory before the '67 refresh. It was to look good, be relatively cheap, and drum up interest for Ford. You could say it was successful.
If I had Jay Leno money, I'd have two '65 Mustang hardtops. One original, one completely modernized underneath.

The lever under the seat is where it is adjusted, mine is the same way.

if buying one be sure to check the cowl area for rust and maybe even pull the heater assembly to check , a very un - easy repair, if it has leaks pass it by or get it cheep and fix.

A four cylinder Mustang was offered beginning in 1974, not in the eighties. Most automatics in the 1960s were more reliable than today's automatics. Chrysler's TorqueFlite was absolutely the best. GM's TurboHydromatic was likewise a smooth, robust automatic. The driver's seat is adjustable forward and rearward.

I'm also in the process of restoring my 65 mustang. This mustang came with the option of a front bench seat. From what I heard they are pretty reliable and beautiful cars. Can't wait to get this mustang running.

This, as equipped, (tho mine was white exterior and red interior) was my first car at 17 yrs old....i bought in 1974 for 400usd and sold it a year later for the same amount. Fond memories of cruising around with friends and alone. I then bought a 67 caddy deville

I've driven this as a 6cyl auto, and I wanted to like it, but just wasn't impressed. Looks a big thumbs up - but the driving experience was kinda meh. The steering required constant correction and as noted was too light even in non-power form. I've driven other mid-late 60's cars and somehow just enjoyed them more. Probably would have felt much better as a V8 with the HD suspension - and non-period radials (I drove on bias ply, and that didn't help). But yes, iconic.

I was the 65th person to give a thumbs up to a video of a 65 Mustang! As a Mustang fan (I own two 5th gen Mustangs here in the UK) the first gen is royalty to me. It’s where the legend began 😎

0:30 In my opinion, that is one of the most beautiful front ends of a car ever.

The Mustang was released on October the 1st, 1964...the $3,105 MSRP translates to $30,717.64 in today's money. The 2024 base model Mustang convertible starts at an MSRP of $39,020, just for context.

The first generation Mustang was unveiled on April 17th, 1964. Not sure where you got your October date from.

Yeah but wages were scaled appropriately back then. You could buy this EASILY on minimum wage if you lived with your parents within a year, maybe a lightly used one

      Because they're basically pointless.
Just like nobody likes the 4 banger fox bodies.
Straight 6 is great for longevity in the trucks, but this is a sports car!

There was no '1964 1/2' Mustang. Stop spewing nonsense. The were all 1965 models.
