What is wrong with this Singer 191J Sewing Machine?!

- I recently brought home the Singer 191J Sewing Machine, and was surprised to see it came to life as soon as I plugged it in. Wiggling the cord a little you can see it completes the circuit. The switch wire has a short at the connection. With the help of my husband we've insulated the wires and it's good as new now, PHEW! #craftcoreDIY

Be careful with those old machines with bad wiring YOU could get a large charge and fly on your ass. I will never plug one in until I check the wiring. Just stop what you are doing and use common sense and never leave the pedal on the floor and the machine plugged in those old foot pedals can heat up and burn the place down
Check foot pedal for blown capacitor. Otherwise maybe wired wrong
Just just brought one home with the SAME issue. How did you resolve/fix? I’m hoping I can do it myself.
(1) Tighten up the clutch knob, the chrome knob in the middle of the handwheel.
(2) Take it to a pro for rewiring. You probably have a blown capacitor and probably another short circuit. Possibly a bad pedal.
It needs rewiring. I’ve got a new (to me) 1953 Featherweight last week with a cord that feels crunchy, although it works fine. I was thinking I could use an old extension cord to rewire the pedal and socket since they can be screwed open. Have you ever done a rewire?
The cord to power is short.
What's the price
Ever had a needle fall on the floor, and were unsuccessful in finding it afterwards?
I've always found it when I've known I've dropped it, but I've definitely found straight pins that I had no idea that I lost. Eeeek! :(
May you be reunited with all lost sewing needles!
My grandfather does this.
So pretty! Looks like an item from New Horizons!
I think so too! I love the look of old vintage sewing machines!💜
has it gone rouge on us 👀👀
I was pretty alarmed when I plugged it in and it immediately started going wild, hahahaha
