Thanks for watching! We were going to put this back on fleaBay but I like it so much I've decided to keep it and keep using it - who would've guessed? BTW please consider supporting this channel so we can keep making videos like this 🙏 patreon.com/perifractic
Ok, here is my reaction to this video: 😮 Wow - that was a surprising and cool combo of products! And if anyone were supposed to make this video - it was of course you, thanks for teaching us something new and cool! 😄
You have to get a worm light or a magnifier light for it. I felt the struggle with you using the light. 😆 Good times back then buying all the batteries. So many double A’s.
When I was a kid in the mid-70s there was something that came out much like your what you're showing with the game boy I want to know if you are familiar with it, it was a sewing machine designed for young girls and it came with a special for want of a better word tape that you put on the side you know you stuck it in and you could do your sewing projects and it would not just so for example a zigzag or whatever it is you were wanting to so but it would also produce music as it did so now this was no toy in the usual sense of the word because you could actually make clothing with it and I thought that was fantastic but I could never convince my parents to buy the thing their idea of a sewing machine for a kid was one of those crappy models that went by hand and didn't do anything long story short when I often say I'm the child of my parents old age I am not joking, and my mom who never made clothes in her life hadn't got a clue even though she had a fantastic sewing machine would she never used, nor allowed me to use even though she had me take classes and I may learn to make my you know to just patterns and make my own clothes she would not allow me to use her machine and expected me to continue with the course I told her well how can I continue and what's the point in it if I don't have a sewing machine to use she didn't even offer to buy me a sewing machine so long story short I just gave up and continue with my father's method of sewing by hand my dad even if he was old fashioned he did teach me the things that my mother should have taught me and never did because to quote her I'd rather have 10 boys than one girl I heard that line my whole life, anyway I just wanted to know if you were familiar with the thing that I coveted some of my friends whose parents got it for them and deeply wanted for myself.
Now we need to design a Commodore serial interface for this sewing machine. It would be cool to be able to "print" a 1541 directory from a Commodore 64 to a sewing machine!
I have no prior interest in sewing but I thought that was really cool! Very ingenious idea to get a Gameboy controlling a sewing machine. It looks like a fun hobby. Well done to Ladyfractic on her designs and creations, and congratulations to you both for the upcoming arrival of Babyfractic.
The algorithm successfully keyed two of my interests at once, Nintendo gaming and sewing tutorials 😂 That is so cool that something from 2001 for the home market has the same functionality as modern home machines!
I’ve seen these machines at some gaming expos. However, I’ve never seen one in operation, of course. A few years ago I had obtained a Husqvarna machine from a goodwill for less than $20. It needed some minor work (which I want going to do haha) but I knew it was an expensive machine nonetheless. Even in as-as condition I did make a tidy profit. My original plan was to use it as I do sew on rare occasion, but it wasn’t worth my time. I’m so happy you did this video we who were curious could finally see this GameBoy powered machine in operation.
Nicely done, Ladyfractic. The first of your Retro Recipes Retro Sews worked seamlessly, which is pretty odd for a show about sewing. It was nice to see an alternative use for the Color Gameboy and see your patient guidance of Perifractic, who showed himself to be a very game boy for this video. I remember using a sewing machine in Home Economics at Secondary School. I was terrified of the needle, which due to my heavy foot on the pedal, felt more like a horror challenge trying to keep my fingers from being sewn together. Imagine the James Bond laser sequence in Goldfinger but with a sewing machine and his hands. Oh, the angst. I remember my paternal grandmother had a Singer sewing machine powered by a treadle rather than a pedal and was built into its own table. Although you got a free leg workout when you used it, so you ended up with great calf muscles and a final product that satisfied your requirements. I look forward to seeing more Retro Sews and hope you can source the missing parts from your machine to complete your set. This was an excellent video by you both. In fact, a great job completely sewn up.
Well, today I learned that Ladyfractic and Perryfractic appear to have dog paws for feet! :) Fantastic video! Never thought I'd find a sewing machine controlled by a Game Boy interesting, but now I want one! :)
Thank you for this review. I had assumed the gameboy was just to stitch Mario or adjacent Nintendo stuff on projects. I had no idea it was the stopgap between regular machines and the computerized ones we have today. Had I known I might have gone for one back in the day.
Never seen this channel before, but came here after looking up videos about this odd Nentendo-Singer combo. Great vid! Side note, when she first said "Little Baby Fratic", My first thought that Fractic was an odd first name for someone to have, and then later in the video I realized that Fractic is the family name and now its one of the most bad ass last names I have ever heard of lol. Idk why but as a first name, it doesnt work in my head, but as a last name it becomes ledgandary! Congrats on the little one, who is definately born by now and I hope that you and the family are doing well. Im going to subscribe, and look forward to seeing more of your content!
Being a thrid generation seamstress, born in the 80's, and a little on the nerdy side; I'm surprised that I never knew Singer collaborated with Game Boy. Singer is my favorite sewing machine, kinda want one now. Thanks for the video.
My Grandmother left me her Singer Golden Sew because I was taking an upholstery class and needed a walking foot sewing machine. On the Golden Sew it was when Singer broke away from the Feather weight all metal machines. But allowed for multiple stich patterns by loading cams into the machine.most of them reflecting the look of the late 60s early 70s.
My missus does embroidery on a 6 needle machine, I'm pretty amazed with the results, and was happy to deep dive into various embroidery softwares and the designs possibilities. 1:02 - WOW .. T A L E N T 👏 6:33 - Babyfractic on Board 14:33 - The other left !!! 17:09 - Perifractic just had the same feeling I've had with my frist embroidery design :) 19:11 - Men with needle jokes when discovering sewing and embroidery ... been there done that 😜 19:55 - Ah! a practice run ... Perifabric was way to confident earlier in the video. Just amazing to see the hardwaresoftware creativity from back early 2000s and what the GAMEBOY software is able to do. Very cool video.
It is kind of crazy, but it’s kinda like our newer, computerized machines have adopted the technology they used with the Jaguar/Singer Gameboy machines for our newer touchscreen and touch-button machines that are programmable. I think the sewing machine I had purchased at that time (actually, around 2002) was the Janome Hello Kitty machine, and it was still all analog. There likely were more advanced machines, but I’d guess that they were mostly professional or embroidery machines back then. These seem like the first series that really brought digital sewing concepts to a mass market, and to younger consumers. If I’d known it was available, I probably would have bought it, but I have been a Janome girl from the beginning, so I wasn’t really looking at Singer machines in the early 2000s. My ma had a “Touch ‘n Throw” (aka Touch ‘n Sew) by Singer, so they had a pretty terrible reputation by the time I started and got my first machine.
Ohh wow! I just can’t believe this… it’s amazing! I didn’t even knew about the existence of this sewing machine 😱 I’m shocked. Thank you for making this video and showing us a bit more of the past, specially to the ones under 30 years old 🙈☺️
I wanted one of these so badly when I was a kid in the nineties. I think I heard about it in Electronic Gaming Monthly or Nintendo Power because we didn't have internet access yet. I remember it being advertised as having a lot of patterns but I'm surprised how feature rich it is! I should start saving now because the resale prices are wild lol
Superb LadyFractic love your work on the Gameboy and the sewing machine. Perifactic you are going to be a great dad just like your dad was a awesome bloke. Your children will grow up knowing these times to be their memories of a wonderful childhood. Thank you .
How cool is this I never knew the game boy could do stuff like this. Great video as always and I got to learn a few things I never knew so thanks. Looking forward to what you guys bring us next so until the have a great weekend and take care 🙂
Congratulations again too both of you 🎉❤. Sew much to do, sew little time, I thought the project was Hanging by a thread when perrifractic had a go, but you trained him well and Bobbin’s your uncle if he didn't get the hang of it like nobody’s spool. he seemed sew into it at the end and was Bobbin along nicely. I am out of material now 🤭 Laughing sew hard am I. Stitches 😂 sorry😂 😁 P.s if this was a Hollywood film it would star both of you and be called Star Wars: A New Hem...and now am done 😂
Totally fascinating. And definitely more than your average product tie-in. My wife being a virtual wizard in the world of “cloth fabrication” i really appreciated the basic tutorial as well. Cheers
Nice to see you having real use for this while actually showing something really done with those machines. I have seen other videos mentioning this machine but no one ever demonstrated it for real due to the lack of skills.
I'll never look at a Gameboy the same way again! 😂 I honestly had no idea. I actually find it very cool as I learned how to use a sewing machine from my grandmother. And burping pad is nerdy enough otherwise you would have been making little booties! 😂 Congrats to you both!
Pedal Car Basics? Processed Cotton Bales? Perfected Cloth Burping? Primary Circuitry Bunting? (Just some more PCB ideas for this one? LOL). Or Plastic Coated Buttons? (As a bonus one!).
This is my favorite video from this channel. I'm sure there are other women who subscribe to this channel who would love to see more of this type of video as well. I have always wanted one of these sewing machines and now I'm going to keep an eye on Japanese auction sites as well as eBay!
This just reminded me of a post I saw in one of the many retrogaming nerd FB groups showing a PSP turned into a full-fledged car sat-nav actually being used in modern days :) Amazing stuff what those handhelds could do back in the day before smartphones became a thing!
Cool, I had seen other videos on it but nice to see it used with a practical example. The love hearts are sweet and the lettering options are really cool. I sense a baby room full of Perifabrics.
I know some times when woman get pregnant hair can grow in strange places due to hormones, but that is 1 harry foot. I think you also need a (Pet)icure. :). Loved the video.
I am thoroughly jealous I'd love to have a sewing machine like that with a Nintendo game boy attachment because I could do so many things with it I can't even get a I can't even afford a regular sewing machine let's put it that way.
What you're describing is Tailor's Chalk which is to sewing people what grease pencils are to engineering people. A string line would be overkill for most sewing as large items are generally constructed from smaller pieces to ensure dimensional accuracy.
@@firstsurname9893 No, I was thinking of carpenders chalk that is in a wind up spool that you pull out, anchor on one end, lay the string against the surface and lift up the string and let it snap down leaving a perfectly straight chalk like to cut on. I was wondering if they have that for sewing. Using a piece of chalk would not be straight enough.
I'm curious whether you're going to make Perifractic say "Mom" instead of "Mum"? My cousin who's Australian married a Canadian girl and they've got a couple of children, and it's funny hearing him switch between "Mom" and "Mum". Also having split their time between Australia and Canada, their kids' accent is very interesting. So I'm sure Babyfractic's (eventual) accent will also be interesting.
A game boy, sewing machine is certainly on brand for the channel, but if you’re going to do more, so in contact, I’d be interested in seeing if you can get your hands on a surgery, those seem super cool
Ah, we still use consumer electronics as a substitute for other tech. My car uses CarPlay instead of having its own navigation equipment and entertainment software. The gameboy color was especially cool at the time for what it was used for and still only a small number of accessories came to the west.
Great episode and very interesting machine! Perifractic will definatly change with gift of of his growing family. A child always changes priorities... Enjoy the new phase in your life :)
18:00 O.k. .. i'm actually awestruck.. That's - sorry perryfractic - actually the best video from your family by far... As i said, sorry perryfractic, your content is still cool. But this is a whole other dimention on top of that.. Love it... please keep it up ;)
I'm a bit in a mechanical sawing , grown ups with that, we have a cheap knock off of kind of modern machine but I throw it in the trash bin, it's not about it's complexity but that thing can't saw , the bobbin is also sideways not vertical and I see so many problems with that
I always wanted to see this being used, I just can't imagine the connection that made this collab possible. Either someone in the singer fam had a Gameboy or someone at Nintendo had a singer lol
Wow..20 minutes went fast. Im glad you did the letters and the hearts...otherwise i wouldnt have been able to tell the game boy was doing anything at all.
I am sew impressed by how quickly Perifabric picked up on using a sewing machine. Well done. I anticipate that one day, in the near future, you two will sew a circuit board. Then again, that might not be a good idea... What would become of PCBWay then?
I remember when I was in school and we had to use a sewing machine (my first time) to make a cushion as a project, I chose to put the Enterprise-D on mine using the cotton to outline it, one trip to the sickbay later (I managed to get the skin between my finger and thumb) my teacher kept it! That was my nerdy project, 30 years on and I’m still afraid to go near one😂
What a coincidence, I was already playing Tetris (DX) on my Game Boy Color [sic] before I started watching this video! And it's a teal one too. Although perhaps it's not so much of a coincidence, since I often play Tetris on my Game Boy while I'm watching videos. I shouldn't be surprised that the GBC can do all this, it does have a relatively powerful processor similar to the Z80 or 8080, and they had whole PCs running on those processors back in the day. But it does seem kind-of like magic that you can press a few buttons on your GBC and basically turn your sewing machine into a sewing robot.
I have an old russian sewing machine, 1988 I think. It is computerized, with an LED display, and it can sew up a 4-hole button for me. But I never had the time to learn how to use it.
when i lived in uk, my gran had an original singer footpedal one ... funny though every women who was pregnant in our family seemed to either start knitting or using a sewing machine lol . i remember my mum using sewing machines at time of my younger siblings being born.. we all got knitted jumpers that year, if we had pets they would have been kitted out too :D lol good video
Very cool. I have a Brother Disney PE-180D, and a Brother sewing machine. I've been meaning to hack the PE-180D for some time now. But I won't be using a GB though. :)

My dear old mum was a sewing 🧵 machinist, she made bras. She met my dad who was the singer sewing machine engineer. Then they both made me ;)

Great video as always. What a useful skill to have!
Wonderful episode watching you both delving into each others worlds to try new things. That Baby Fractic is going to me one smart 🍪
18:00 O.k. .. i'm actually awestruck..
That's - sorry perryfractic - actually the best video from your family by far...
As i said, sorry perryfractic, your content is still cool.
But this is a whole other dimention on top of that..
Love it... please keep it up ;)
No need to apologise at all! Glad this one was more your cup of tea!
I'm a bit in a mechanical sawing , grown ups with that, we have a cheap knock off of kind of modern machine but I throw it in the trash bin, it's not about it's complexity but that thing can't saw , the bobbin is also sideways not vertical and I see so many problems with that
Congratulations to you both! 💝
I always wanted to see this being used, I just can't imagine the connection that made this collab possible. Either someone in the singer fam had a Gameboy or someone at Nintendo had a singer lol
Perifractic/Ladyfractic room's like a city, a small model of a city! :)
Congratulations on the new one!
Now imagine having a big screen tv behind the Singer where you run the software from a Super Game Boy 2!
This sewing machine is absolutely genius. My nice would love it? Does it automatically make the stitches and pattern?? 💜💜💜💜
So cool! By the way I love your hair! 😍
the past was so much more futuristic than today
Wow..20 minutes went fast. Im glad you did the letters and the hearts...otherwise i wouldnt have been able to tell the game boy was doing anything at all.
That medieval dress looked amazing!
Damn I just saw one of these at a shop, had no idea it was like this
My brother is a Dress Designer/Maker and I have wanted to get him this setup for years now
I am sew impressed by how quickly Perifabric picked up on using a sewing machine. Well done. I anticipate that one day, in the near future, you two will sew a circuit board. Then again, that might not be a good idea... What would become of PCBWay then?
Congrats on the baby!!💜💜🙏🙏💐💐
I remember when I was in school and we had to use a sewing machine (my first time) to make a cushion as a project, I chose to put the Enterprise-D on mine using the cotton to outline it, one trip to the sickbay later (I managed to get the skin between my finger and thumb) my teacher kept it! That was my nerdy project, 30 years on and I’m still afraid to go near one😂
She's amazing!❤
I can't believe I had never heard of this - so wild!
I was hoping you’d be making another episode with this unique machine!
Well, as a look back at retro tech, I suppose it's interesting. As a sewing machine, it leaves a lot to be desired.
The only circumstances under which I will ever watch a UA-cam video about sewing are these.
Haha you used a very similar sound effect to what Veritasium ends their videos with a few times and I kept thinking I was at the end.
Babyfractic will have the coolest childhood!
when i lived in uk, my gran had an original singer footpedal one ... funny though every women who was pregnant in our family seemed to either start knitting or using a sewing machine lol . i remember my mum using sewing machines at time of my younger siblings being born.. we all got knitted jumpers that year, if we had pets they would have been kitted out too :D lol good video
I just want to say that you guys are a "perfect" couple . Love what you do :)
Very cool. I have a Brother Disney PE-180D, and a Brother sewing machine. I've been meaning to hack the PE-180D for some time now. But I won't be using a GB though. :)
not a gimmick, serious interfacing.
I hardly ever sew, but when I do, it's rewarding and close to addictive
