I was raised Catholic but left the faith. I feel the Holy Spirit tugging me toward Orthodox faith. I am reading this ladies book now and just received my Orthodox study bible.
I feel the same way, been Evangelical all my life but now my eyes have been opened and I'm going to attend my first Divine Liturgy this coming Sunday with a group of students from an Orthodox fellowship at my university.

Jeremy Tan Congratulations! In the past few months I've attended my parish a bunch of times and fell in love with the community. Sadly I was away at college so it's difficult to make it back up there now, plus my Evangelical family isn't on board with my exploration of Orthodoxy at all. They're very set in their theological ways, rejecting the sacraments and whatnot in favor of the sola fide doctrine.
I'm a catechumen at my Greek Orthodox Church ☦️ and couldn't be happier. I was a Protestant for 20 years. My first Divine Liturgy was other worldly and I loved it.
@johnalexis8284 a lot of differences. Protestantism is really varied, so I can't give an exact answer but more generalized. Most of Protestantism has its roots in the 16th century and most of it, aside from Lutheranism and Anglicans or a Protestant high church, the worship is contemporary whereas the early church was liturgical. I've been to Protestant worship services where they literally had fog machines when songs were being sung. This tells me they are trying to entertain more than anything. Now, we're those worship bands necessarily a "bad" thing? No, because there are worse things that can happen in a church. But when you look at what worship is and where it started in the old testament, it resembles nothing like modern Protestantism. The next big difference is most Protestant churches consider themselves Bible based or Sola Scriptura, but this is exactly why the Protestant movement lacks real unity. That's why there are Calvinists, Presbyterians, Baptists, Pentecostals, SDA, Lutherans, Evangelicals, etc. None of these are in agreement. Now, Protestants would argue they agree on the fundamentals but that depends on how one interprets the Bible. Take for example the current political climate with the LGBTQ. There is a split in the Presbyterian movement and within the Methodist denomination over this issue. Even some Roman Catholics are going woke. This is an issue where we cannot compromise the gospel on. The other big issue is church governance. The one example I can draw from is the recent Ravi Zacharias scandal. He was accountable to nobody and ultimately went to his death not being held accountable. His leadership board said he fooled them but there were plenty of signs that were ignored. Many people were hurt, his wife and family betrayed. In Orthodoxy, Catholicism and probably Lutheranism and Anglicanism there is a way to handle these things and bring accountability and anathematize people like this. Most of Protestantism lacks this ability because the perpetrator can just go to another strip mall church like nothing even happened. For me, the next thing would be the eucharist, the sacraments and the life of the Church. Since most of Protestantism holds the eucharist to be symbolic, it really has lost its historical importance and how the church understood it. If you dig into church history, you'd have to either become Catholic or Orthodox, those are the 2 historical churches. I'm not saying Protestants aren't Christian, it's more the JV team with no direction and if you wanted to get to the varsity team, you'd have to then abandon the JV team eventually. Feel free to ask me anything else. Sorry for the rant.

a common theme in all these comments is how joyful people are as they're converting to orthodoxy. and I assure you: after having attended my first Divine Liturgy a week ago - I have never felt more at peace in my life. I'm beginning to read the bible now with the utmost excitement. I'm learning to do my morning and evening prayer rule. I don't know what it is: something about orthodoxy feels so true and peaceful. @@sonyagraske376 I can't speak for Orthodox, but I'll say as a Catholic that this is, I think, how we do it. I know that it's Easter when the catechumens (we call them this too) become full Catholics, and I'd think Orthodoxy would be the same.
I grew up with scientology I rebelled against it and for years I was lost in till August of last year (I’m 34) . My first visit was at an invitation from Father Jermaine and by god’s good grace have guided I became a catechumen in December and have a date for baptism in July

I'm curious... are there Orthodox SCHOOLS, like Catholic schools? I grew up in Catholic school all the way through high school, and so we studied our version of this stuff in great detail. Catholic schools in America have the stereotypes of being 'the highest education you can get' in school and so non-Catholics also send their kids to them, they just pay more lol.
@@Awakeningspirit20 in Romania we have orthodox schools and catholic schools, and also baptist or other schools. Most of them are ruled by the state and Education ministry, in my country school is provided for free until you finish high school.
I find this helpful. I was born Roman Catholic, but was never really devout as I grew older, but started attending Mass a little more often this year, but our church closed down. I live in the mountains but attend school in the city and my Serbian Orthodox friends have invited me to join them this Sunday.

That symbolises the Entrance of Jesus at the city of Jerusalem. Inside the Gospel there are the words of God, like that the Jesus came to preach and spread His word/the truth. That’s the meaning of the Small Entrance. During the *Great Entrance* the priests takes the blessed bread and wine and delivers them from the Pròthesis (side altar) to the Central Altar on the Holy Table. That walking around the church symbolises the way of Jesus carrying His Cross and going to Golgotha. The Holy Gifts (bread and wine) on the Holy table are symbolising Jesus on the Cross. I heard so much about the Eastern Orthodox Church. But never had a chance to attend until 4 years ago, I attended one. It was a Greek Orthodox one named Saint George. Once I went inside, I met this parishioner who also works as a Sexton. He showed me the beautiful and magnificent icon pictures. Even the stained glass windows. I asked him if it were possible for a Roman Catholic like me to receive holy communion. He said that only Orthodox Christians can receive holy communion. So I understood what he said and I showed him sincere respect towards his opinion and beliefs. Now I know what he meant. Closed communion. It’s practiced within the Eastern Orthodox Churches. Even Roman Catholic Church. And some Protestants too. To my Eastern Orthodox brothers and sisters in Christ, keep up the good work by serving the Lord. Amen.
My parish does not have anyone ready to do the chants properly. Having witnessed the full chant while travelling, I am now studying this so that it can be enjoyed here.

I just attended for my first time ever, I grew up AG , this was so beautiful. I had very little idea of what was going on, but like my youngest said “it was like a beautiful drama”. I’m planning on continuing to go, I hope eventually we understand! This video helped.

Take a look at the Virgin Mary icon, we come to Church to find our path to God, why than we don’t pay attention to what wears Mother of God in such a modest and pure way?
@Kyril J in the Greek Orthodox churches women don't wear scarves. Only in the Russian Orthodox churches it is compulsory. So it is according to the holy father's advice at confession.
I love the use of the Kievan setting for the Trisagion even thought its an Antiochian parish! It is through Liturgical sharing of tones and hymns that the jurisdictional lines which from the outside seem to separate us, when in reality we are One, Holy, and Catholic, will disappear and we will be a single united Orthodox American Church!

Reading Frederica Mathewes-Green's book "Welcome to the Orthodox Church" was a pivotal moment in my conversion, and indeed my life. It's a wonderful book for anyone new to the Orthodox faith, or anyone who is discerning Christianity in general and wishes to know more about Orthodoxy.
I am in that same process and thinking about becoming a member of the Orthodox Church! I have recieved alot of very good and helpful information through these videos done by Theoria and by listening to Ezra Ham from Oklaholma City! Some of the things are too big for me to grasp still because there is ALOT to take in still, but what I do know for certain is that the language of the church is much more like music to my ears and makes more sense to me in its translations!
I am fortunate to have a Catholic church several blocks from my house that only does Latin Mass. I have started going to the High Mass which is sung in Latin...Communion only given on the tongue at Communion rail, women wear veils just like in old times
Their is a high resembelance between an Ethiopian Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox church Liturgical structures. One thing in particular differs in each other which is Proskomedia / Great Entrance /. We as an Ethiopian Orthodox Church have an Entrance after the Gospel Reading before starting the Anaphoric Prayer but the Priests and Deacons don't hold the Sacramental offerings. Basically Our Liturgy starts with preparatory and supplicatory Prayer then the invocation prayer or Trisagion will be chanted. Then after Intercessional Prayer will procced. After that the liturgy of the word will be conducted consisting of reading Paulian and Catholic Epistles proceeding. Before Gospel reading a specific hymn will be chanted from psalm then after prayer for Catchemen is going to be conducted. Anaphoric prayer will proceed and the Jesus prayer will be chanted in high voice 41 times both by priests and laymen.Finally communion will be given to the congregants. Specific hymn will be chanted by chantors while conducting communion the liturgical prayer will be concluded by a Conclusionary prayer held by the Arch Priest and arch deacon of that day.
We don't have matins. I am an alter worker and AM NOT perfect in carrying out my services in carrying out my services. Please do not be ashamed or embarrassed. If I can carry out my duties with my imperfections, you certainly can be a part of the worship and so experience a sense of belonging. Please know, I am 66 years old and have been Orthodox only 4 years. If I can experience such a sense of satisfaction and acceptance, despite my imperfections, so can you. This is beautiful. This seems to be as close to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass of the Roman Catholic Church (Latin Rite) as one might find. The intentions seem to be the same but the methods are a little different.

@@sonyagraske376 I can't speak for Orthodox, but I'll say as a Catholic that this is, I think, how we do it. I know that it's Easter when the catechumens (we call them this too) become full Catholics, and I'd think Orthodoxy would be the same.
I grew up with scientology I rebelled against it and for years I was lost in till August of last year (I’m 34) . My first visit was at an invitation from Father Jermaine and by god’s good grace have guided I became a catechumen in December and have a date for baptism in July

The Divine Liturgy is what enraptured my heart and I am so thankful that I found the One True Church. I will be Orthodox until I die.

I love the way that this lady explanis the liturgical moments. I grew up and I live in an Orthodox country but here no one would explain the Liturgy and it's meanings...
Very little of the meaning behind the ritual is explained here. There are much more informative videos where you can learn the meaning of every action.
I'm curious... are there Orthodox SCHOOLS, like Catholic schools? I grew up in Catholic school all the way through high school, and so we studied our version of this stuff in great detail. Catholic schools in America have the stereotypes of being 'the highest education you can get' in school and so non-Catholics also send their kids to them, they just pay more lol.
@@Awakeningspirit20 in Romania we have orthodox schools and catholic schools, and also baptist or other schools. Most of them are ruled by the state and Education ministry, in my country school is provided for free until you finish high school.
I find this helpful. I was born Roman Catholic, but was never really devout as I grew older, but started attending Mass a little more often this year, but our church closed down. I live in the mountains but attend school in the city and my Serbian Orthodox friends have invited me to join them this Sunday.

A little note:
During the *Small Entrance* the Priest takes the Evangèlio>Gospel and places it again on the Holy Table passing it through the Holy Gate.
That symbolises the Entrance of Jesus at the city of Jerusalem. Inside the Gospel there are the words of God, like that the Jesus came to preach and spread His word/the truth.
That’s the meaning of the Small Entrance.
During the *Great Entrance* the priests takes the blessed bread and wine and delivers them from the Pròthesis (side altar) to the Central Altar on the Holy Table.
That walking around the church symbolises the way of Jesus carrying His Cross and going to Golgotha.
The Holy Gifts (bread and wine) on the Holy table are symbolising Jesus on the Cross.

I am recent convert to Eastern Orthodoxy from Roman Catholicism!
I heard so much about the Eastern Orthodox Church. But never had a chance to attend until 4 years ago, I attended one. It was a Greek Orthodox one named Saint George. Once I went inside, I met this parishioner who also works as a Sexton. He showed me the beautiful and magnificent icon pictures. Even the stained glass windows. I asked him if it were possible for a Roman Catholic like me to receive holy communion. He said that only Orthodox Christians can receive holy communion. So I understood what he said and I showed him sincere respect towards his opinion and beliefs. Now I know what he meant. Closed communion. It’s practiced within the Eastern Orthodox Churches. Even Roman Catholic Church. And some Protestants too. To my Eastern Orthodox brothers and sisters in Christ, keep up the good work by serving the Lord. Amen.
It will be my first time this Sunday I am extremely nervous coming from a charismatic church I know it will a whole new bueatiful world

I just attended for my first time ever, I grew up AG , this was so beautiful. I had very little idea of what was going on, but like my youngest said “it was like a beautiful drama”. I’m planning on continuing to go, I hope eventually we understand! This video helped.

I’m happy that so many people come to Orthodoxy and was really shocked seeing that almost all women didn’t wear scarf on theirs heads in the Church. Take a look at the Virgin Mary icon, we come to Church to find our path to God, why than we don’t pay attention to what wears Mother of God in such a modest and pure way?

@@orthodox1173 not all Orthodox churches require a scarf. In Greece they don't wear scarves in church.
@Kyril J in the Greek Orthodox churches women don't wear scarves. Only in the Russian Orthodox churches it is compulsory. So it is according to the holy father's advice at confession.

I love the use of the Kievan setting for the Trisagion even thought its an Antiochian parish! It is through Liturgical sharing of tones and hymns that the jurisdictional lines which from the outside seem to separate us, when in reality we are One, Holy, and Catholic, will disappear and we will be a single united Orthodox American Church!

Reading Frederica Mathewes-Green's book "Welcome to the Orthodox Church" was a pivotal moment in my conversion, and indeed my life. It's a wonderful book for anyone new to the Orthodox faith, or anyone who is discerning Christianity in general and wishes to know more about Orthodoxy.
I am in that same process and thinking about becoming a member of the Orthodox Church! I have recieved alot of very good and helpful information through these videos done by Theoria and by listening to Ezra Ham from Oklaholma City! Some of the things are too big for me to grasp still because there is ALOT to take in still, but what I do know for certain is that the language of the church is much more like music to my ears and makes more sense to me in its translations!

I am fortunate to have a Catholic church several blocks from my house that only does Latin Mass. I have started going to the High Mass which is sung in Latin...Communion only given on the tongue at Communion rail, women wear veils just like in old times

Their is a high resembelance between an Ethiopian Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox church Liturgical structures. One thing in particular differs in each other which is Proskomedia / Great Entrance /. We as an Ethiopian Orthodox Church have an Entrance after the Gospel Reading before starting the Anaphoric Prayer but the Priests and Deacons don't hold the Sacramental offerings. Basically Our Liturgy starts with preparatory and supplicatory Prayer then the invocation prayer or Trisagion will be chanted. Then after Intercessional Prayer will procced. After that the liturgy of the word will be conducted consisting of reading Paulian and Catholic Epistles proceeding. Before Gospel reading a specific hymn will be chanted from psalm then after prayer for Catchemen is going to be conducted. Anaphoric prayer will proceed and the Jesus prayer will be chanted in high voice 41 times both by priests and laymen.Finally communion will be given to the congregants. Specific hymn will be chanted by chantors while conducting communion the liturgical prayer will be concluded by a Conclusionary prayer held by the Arch Priest and arch deacon of that day.

This is beautiful. This seems to be as close to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass of the Roman Catholic Church (Latin Rite) as one might find. The intentions seem to be the same but the methods are a little different.

Orthodoxy is a basically a national Church of Greece or Russia, similar to how the Anglican Church was during Henry the 8ths reign. Orthodoxy, like the An gh lican permits divorce & contraception. The Catholic Church continues to hold steadfast that these are still going against God's will.
