Just found your channel while randomly scrolling through youtube, and you make some really good points. Saying "gaming is dead" is really easy when all you play is cod, sports games or AAA slop (not saying every AAA sucks, but the ratio is absurd and finding gems like BG 3 and Alan Wake 2 nowadays is really rare). Getting out of your comfort zone and giving indie and AA games a shot is a great way to keep things fresh. Anyway, great video, hope you keep up the good work
@caioalves5108 a lot of AAA is just 'good', at worst slop, which sucks because they're the most expensive most of the time. at least we do have gems like BG3 and Alan Wake 2 (which I will try to play one day)
I think you've raised some excellent points. It amazes me how many people I see saying that 'gaming is dead', but who stick to the same games from years ago. I don't even mean recent AAA releases, but for example the types who'll play WoW (a game from 2004), and complain that "gaming is dead" because no WoW 2.0 has miraculously appeared to save humanity, completely blind to the fact that the gaming industry has moved on since then and created some really brilliant games.
I must disagree, the gaming industry hasn't "moved on" it has just blatantly got worse. So many new attempts at being the next WoW have been made, FF14 another MMO is effectively stealing WoW's playerbase as it declines. The overall quality of MMOs have dropped from the days of original WoW. The existence of good games IN SPITE of an overall decline doesn't negate the decline, we still refer to the Atari Crash as a gaming crash when in reality arcade gaming was still on its ascent putting out some of the best games ever made during this period (with in Japan the PC market also having many formative titles being released). Gaming is dead, if the Atari crash is the standard than the industry is in fact dead.
@@sadscientisthououinkyouma1867 I really don't think the gaming industry has overall declined though - it's simply changed. There's *excellent* triple A releases, they just aren't MMOs. I mean you're right in that if your focus is games like WoW and FF14, you'll probably be more than a tad frustrated at the lack of developments in this area. I think the last time we had proper "viable" WoW killers (even if they often failed) was more than ten years ago. But if you're willing to look at other genres, I'd argue it's better than ever. Baldurs Gate 3, Penny's Big Breakaway, Cyberpunk 2077, Persona 3 Reload, Shin Megami Tensei Vengeance, Ghost of Tsushima, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth are all fairly recent releases and all excellent. If you want something to scratch that MMO itch, I highly recommend Granblue Fantasy Relink or even just some other JRPGs like Tales of Arise. The gaming industry certainly hasn't crashed - I'd argue it's doing better than ever, just not in the MMO genre (as quite frankly the industry, and I'd argue, much of the playerbase, has shifted away to live service games). It might not be your cup of tea but Genshin Impact for example is about 10x as popular as WoW ever was.

BG3 2023 great game I won't contest that Penny's Big Breakaway 2024 Great game starting the list off strong Cyberpunk 2020 (4 years ago lmao) and a bad game that literally required an anime to convince people it was good the RPG mechanics have never once been added to the game so even if bugs are fixed it is still just an action-adventure game that was advertised as the evolution of Role-playing. Shame on you for including it, that's a slap in the face to everyone who loves RPGs. Persona 3 Reload 2024 great game, but is an inferior remake of a PS2 game, no Answer (that's DLC left out of the game so they can make more money) and no FEMC. Including an inferior remake to argue the industry isn't in a bad spot is a wacky choice. There's a lot of reasons I can go into why the remake is weak but that would be its own post. I've explicitly praised it elsewhere, I actually think it is the best JRPG in at least the last 5 years. Gaming overall has declined, you can pick almost any genre of game and it is worse than the 360 era. RPGs? Sure you have stuff like Kingdom Come Deliverance and BG3, but on the 360 you had Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Mass Effect 1-3, Dragon Age origins-inquisition. Multiple all-time classics in the 360 era. @@catalystiic Tbh it's difficult for me to find anything after 2015 that really hits the button. Stardew Valley came out in 2016, so did No Man's Sky, Red Dead 2 in 2018, cyberpunk 2077 in 2020, Elder Ring in 2022.
That's not really everything, I didn't get into all the categories. (I play all the game types) I guess what I'm really trying to say is that it would be hard to find over 15 games since 2015 that have a ton of replay value for me. Plus I mean Kirby Planet Robobot came out in this time frame, so it's not all bad. ☺️
@defectiveparts8604 I get what youre saying everyone's got their own preferences! I got into the Playstation 2012 and I've been playing tons of older Nintendo games since I was younger until now so I like a wide array from different release periods.
@@catalystiic My first game was Tetris on my grandma's Gameboy original, she had a NES too with Mario 3 and Duck Hunt. Grandma was a gamer. I understand completely, so many good games across all the systems.. This is why I am very glad for emulation, and of course the art of keeping most of my collection over the years. But even then I've played old MUD client games too because my Mom played them. She introduced me to Geneforge and Age of Empires on the PC later before I even knew what they were, and kids at that time usually knew all the game stuff first.
@defectiveparts8604 always so cool to hear about how family can influence our interests. My family aren't gamers but I got introduced to the concept through free flash games in cereals lol
