  • To me this great video history and I'll tell you why!
When I went in Dec 1998 Tomorrowland was all new, they had a large black Cement Marble ball floating in a large bowl of water and you can spin the ball around in the water but to do that you had to get by the spurting water jets around the Black Ball.
you can see if me and my good friend in the wheelchair made it to the ball without getting wet?
This was so fun as you can see from the video!
But that is sadly all gone.
We saw Honey, I Shrunk the Audience 3-D film, just a taste of video.
We go to innoventions and check it out, see all the video games then we go on Rocket Rods, this was I thought fun and cool ride!
It go's on the tracks that the Peoplemover went on and you race your Rocket Rod along the track.
We pass the Monorail as she honks her horn at us!
You can see much of Tomorrowland from this ride.
Sadly, They took this ride out as well.
My friend and I go on the new Disneyland Autopia cars ride.
They look like brand new mini sports cars, still fun to ride!

The Wheelchaired man makes me smile. He was fast enough though.

People may hate the 98 redo, but it's definitely better than what it is now. It's nothing but intellectual properties (mostly Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar) with an abandoned track, and a broken set piece. Innoventions is a lackluster Star Wars museum that doesn't even rotate, the Magic Eye Theater doesn't do anything anymore, the observatron is dead, and all the Peoplemover/Rocket Rod tracks do now is collect leafs. Even the fountains are gone. 98 Tomorrowland may have had problems but at least it had spirit and life, something Tomorrowland is badly lacking today. I wish I had a time machine so I could visit the 67 Tomorrowland and the 98 Tomorrowland.

I would like to go back and visit those times too - now if I can only just find Doctor Who - maybe he can help me out!
Thank you for the very cool comment!

      Don't worry folks & MrDisneyfanman.
At Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, after the completion of Star Wars Land in 2019, all the Star Wars stuff (between the possibility of Star Tours) could move there as a new area. Also, the Astro Orbitors could move all the way up at the top as opposed to Rocket Jets with the addition of new elevators plus safety rails.
Also, around 2020-2021 as opposed to the old PeopleMover (1967-1995) & Rocket Rods (1998-2000), in the same above ground platform in Tomorrowland, our business should bring back the New PeopleMover with safety rails plus electromagnets.

Tomorrowland @ MK isn’t that much better, but at least there isn’t wasted space besides the stupid stitch encounter which has closed indefinitely with no replacement announced.

It makes me smile to see all those people smiling and having fun in the fountains, especially that handicapped man :')
I wish Tomorrowland was lively like it was in this video, now it seems so stale. The deserted Peoplemover/Rocket Rods track is just sad that it's stayed that way for over a decade. Autopia needs a MUCH needed, futuristic, upgrade. Tomorrowland is about the future, right? If you put two and two together, it would be awesome if they made a new Autopia road to replace the old Peoplemover track! It will be refreshing to see more movement around Tomorrowland again.

I know I'm in a minority when I say this, but I really liked Tomorrow land 1998. Idk, I just really liked the look of it and the new attractions. I think it could have done fairly well if it had been upgraded and improved. But alas, that's just me. Great footage btw! Cool to look back at that.

I think if just a little bit more money had been poured in, it might have been of a better quality and maybe it would have lasted longer. Had the Rocket Rods been given banked tracks, they might still be here. If Space Mountain had a better color scheme, it might not be white again. Who knows though?

I miss the Rocket Rods so much! Luckily I got to ride them once right before they closed for good back in 2000! Tomorrowland in my opinion went downhill after they go rid of them. I was there yesterday & it's sad to see that track still sitting there almost 14 years later with nothing on it. They need to redo that track & put something on it!

It's crazy to think Disney's California Adventure didn't even exist at this time. It's hard trying to think of Disneyland and not think of DCA being right across from it.

It is still at Tomorrowland in Disneyland, as of 2011.
I did a quick study. It is called a Kugel Ball!
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, A Kugel ball is a sculpture consisting of a large granite ball supported by a very thin film of water. Water flows beneath a very heavy, perfectly spherical rock from a spherical concave base with exactly the same curvature. A Kugel ball can weigh thousands of pounds, but because the thin film of water lubricates it, the ball spins.

Sad after America sings the carousel theater never really had a purpose. The rocket rods were only for a brief time since the track wasn't made for such a high speed attraction and the weight weakened the structure of the track it became unsafe they had to close it down permanently . Disney didn't really do their home work planning it out.

Is it true that they took the fountains out due to the pipes always breaking and flooding the Innoventions basement causing them to stop Innoventions spinning until they drained the basement? Or is it because the water bill was to high for them so they shut the space mountain fountain area off.

you are welcome...love all the classic vids you have btw! I too am from SoCal and didn't always go to the park like every year but at least once every other year in the 90's when I was a kid. Good memories were made and I miss the old vibe of the Disneyland that once was, in the 90's.I HAD NEVER WENT INTO HISTA!!! I am so glad that Captain EO is back home though :)

Looked this up because everyone was saying I was imagining the fountains around the ball but I swore I remembered running through them. Thanks for this upload to confirm it I miss old Disney it sucks now and not hardly as many kids as you see here now it's all Disney adults mostly and no dress code as the majority have no bra and booty shorts I went in March too when nights get cold

The ride the PeopleMover was at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA was from Sunday, July 2, 1967 until it broke down on Monday, August 21, 1995. Then it became Rocket Rods on Friday, May 22, 1998 and lasted through Monday, September 25, 2000.
The Tomorrowland's above ground platform has been standing but not operating since Tuesday, September 26, 2000.
By late July 2018, the Tomorrowland could remove the Rocket Rods Observatron from the pylon then they could remove all the old PeopleMover / Rocket Rod tracks between tearing down and rebuilding.
Around 2021-2023, as opposed to the Old PeopleMover (1967-1995) & Rocket Rods (1998-2000), in the same above ground platform, because of the possibility of people with wheelchair or mobility scooters, instead of the New PeopleMover, we all know it could be Heathrow Pod Tour, it could be iMover, it could be Boxcar Tour or it could be a new ride with normal speed that is more comfortable than ever before.

The water ball is still there but not the fountains, and I was just there last spring. But I really wish tomorrowland was still like this, now it feels kind of run down and abandoned. I wonder when it will get a new makeover or if they are done with it? But yes the ball is there, it has never gone away, only the fountains.

Tomorrowland has felt run down since they redid it back in the 1990's. I wish they didn't retheme it... just kept it the way it was and took care of it. I would say Tomorrowland is on the backburner for a long time. Such a shame that 95% of the rides are now based off of movies ( my head hanging in shame with tears in my eyes) Disneyland is gone. Welcome to MovieLand.

Hmmm isn't it odd that the voice comand name at 6:50ish name is Debbi.... Well i find it odd and a lil creepy... i mean the Cast members could be asking the vocie comand saying "Debbi could u please turn this light off" and the light would turn off... but what if it was the ghost of Deborah (Debbi) Gail Stone doing the things the Cast members asked and then answering the Cast members. creepy... but that is how my dark and twisted ( lack of ) mind works lol
