Wow!! You posted TWO travel videos today! Yay!! I’m thoroughly enjoying Baku, what an amazing place. Such an interesting combination of old and new, traditional versus modern. Thank you Gabe for showing and reminding me of the beautiful places on our planet despite such turbulent and conflicting times that we are living in. Thank you. ❤️
This video confirms that Baku is amazing city. A nice old and modern architecture. Caspian Sea (in fact a big lake) is exciting. Thank you for sharing!
Interesting to point out that before 1991, Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 was using the Cyrillic alphabet for Azeri language and when they got their independence in that year, the government introduced the Latin script and now the Cyrillic alphabet for the language has disappeared. Other former Soviet Turkic countries like Kazakhstan 🇰🇿, Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬 and Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 still use the Cyrillic script for their languages, although Turkmenistan 🇹🇲 successfully converted their language into Latin script from Cyrillic just like Azerbaijan 🇦🇿.

It’s interesting that some former Soviet Turkic countries like Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 and Turkmenistan 🇹🇲 succeeded in implementing Latin script amongst its population but others like Kazakhstan 🇰🇿, Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬 and Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 have been very slow or not bothered to do it.

wonderful view of Baku from the tower and beautiful promenade at the Caspian Sea ...truly fascinating old town...only the weather was not fully co-operating
If an underpass says something about a country then Azerbaijan is amazing. That underpass was so clean and had art and vending machines that weren’t destroyed or in this cages like in the U-Bahn.
I knew as soon as you said you like the sound of the Caspian sea, that it was down to reading C.S. Lewis's 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' ☺️ same as me! I read all the books in the series and loved them, hence the Caspian sea sounded magical. Cool 🎺🥁🦁 🧹☺️
The village Qırmızı Qəsəbə, across the river from the city of Quba up north near the Russian border, is the only exclusively Jewish population center in the world outside Israel and the United States, would be a very interesting place to visit! Gobustan with it's mud volcanos and rock arts, near Baku, is also an absolute must.
About Futuristic builds i recommend visiting the Heydar Aliyev Center. That build has 0 corners (the build itself not the stuff inside) and is completely made out of curves.
Hi Gabriel. Thank you for filming great video about my home city. If you still in Baku I can buy that bus card from you to compensate your financial loss. I think on that machine there is note that there will be no change. If you are not in Baku, you can come back))) this is positive perspective of your loss)))
Was there in 1995, visiting Baku, Ganja, Sheki, an Udin village and caves in Lenkoran. A lot has changed but reckon on country side much of the same. People spoke Azeri outside and Russian in Baku. Had some nice old church ruins nearby Ganja.
That "odd" building you mentioned was the Carpet Museum. It's really worth taking the funicular to the Flame Towers (although you can also easily walk up the stairs) since there is a nice park from where you have great views. Don't miss on visiting the Shirvanshak's Palace in the Old Town. If you want to make use of your pass, take a bus to the Heyder Eliyev Museum which has a very interesting architecture with a park surrounding it. I can also highly recommend taking a day tour to Xinaliq in the North of Azerbaijan (I think the lady wanted to sell you a tour). I went there by taxi but we were two so it was cheaper. The road from Quba into the mountains is absolutely stunning. It will be a long day but totally worth the effort!
What is wrong with this guy talking about the wizard of oz when is there so much to say about this amazing city the most beautiful I have seen so far, so clean and architecturally fantastic like no other in the world.
Hi Gabriel, have you seen the UA-cam channel, Kand Hayati? All about a wonderful self sufficient couple in the countryside of Azerbaijan. The filming is exquisite, and the food they produce is amazing. I think you would enjoy it.

Hi Gabriel, I couldn't believe how fascinating this City of Baku and Azerbaijan is just a really revealing video about this the structures were fascinating from the roof side showing and displaying all the areas around it. The park was incredible with a life-size chess set. Your narration of the Chronicles of Narnia and the Wizard of Oz is based on stories and how they have influenced you and you read the entire book in one unreal evening. You are right it does have a resemblance to the Sydney Opera House. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Looking forward to seeing those boots or shoes. That was a beautiful tortoiseshell cat.
I hope you’ll visit the Ateshgah of Baku. If you don’t know what it’s is, type it in Wikipedia and there is an article about the place. It was a temple that was used as a place of worship for Hindu, Sikh, and Zoroastrian people.
I was just typing a comment that the Deniz mall reminds me of the Sydney Opera house when you said it yourself 😂There's even also a Ferris wheel nearby. Love the street music esp at 25:10

Azerbaijan is a great country. if you go to see the mud volcanoes and cave paintings at Gobustan Look for a battered Lada taxi at the roundabout before cave paintings visitor center. He wont rip you off unlike the other taxi drivers.
32:35 Fun fact. Freddy Mercury's family, being from Zanzibar, practiced Zoroastrianism. One could do worse than read some Zoroastrian Scriptures. Then listen to some Queen.
